ACF: yes, Eric’s plan was to have it as UN-electric as possible. But he agrees that both the battery and inverter should (and will be at some point) more powerful.
@@GypsyJenJen wow so cool thx for sharing this! If u don't mind me asking what engine and transmission is in his truck please? I want to find the same truck thanks!
Agreed, he did an excellent job. I'm inspired to build something similar for camping trips. Plenty of good and very affordable box trucks out there. For me, vans are just too small. I'd rather build out a truck.
Tommy Tutone song called 8675309 (Jenny)-- "Jenny, I got your number 867-5309." Great choice for a number for your DIY Van camper, I mean Vortex Energy Systems business.
Please tell Mr. Eric that he's amazing. The music of the video is spectacular, and what he did, so simple and neat deserves admiration. My hat off for that man.
I’m almost finished with my build and I would love to give supreme credit to Eric if not for him I would’ve never bought an almost identical truck and done a very similar build. I have no previous experience so I don’t think it looks as nice as his, but I put a lot of love into it and I’m still learning. I really appreciate what you guys are doing out there. It really open the door and made me believe in myself and my potential to do this DIY stuff.
A bathroom with a shower is TOP on my list!! This build is great as a ton of thought gone into it. That van has got to be one of the best for building a personal "bubble build"
Awesome van, it gave me several ideas and I love the humorous touches. I've lived in my 1996 Ford high top conversion for about 6 months now and love it but i am already planning my next van and i know for sure it will be a box van similar in size to this one. So much easier to build with everything flat and square.
If I ever build my own it will be as close to yours as I can make it. If you hadn’t specifically said you wouldn’t build for someone I’d be asking you “Please build mine?!”
Eric just want to let you know I've seen thousands of these van conversions bcoz i 'm planning one for myself but of all of these i like yours best. it is so practical so understated but it has everything i need. its simplicity and easy maintenance is what attracts me. i have watched several times. the bed and the bathroom is incredible. thanks buddy
LOVE IT! The van is sooo cool. I'd pop 200 watt solar on the roof, in addition. I was happy to see the generated stowed. For me, I'd simply have to have a window. One in the kitchen and one in the living/dining/bedroom. Either that or hiden cameras of the exterior areas -- sides, back, front. Maybe both. Call me paranoid, but I'm just say'n ... security, security, security. However, you did a gorgeous job. You got me wanting a mobile stleath apartment too. KUDOS!
Big burly guy with the aesthetics of a woman because I love the interior design and colors! Excellent design and execution. Plus you are of the few narrators who spit it out without all the stammering 'uhmmms' and you don't blather on and on about any one thing. It was a pleasure to listen to you. I love the ideas like how the bed folds down and that little table unfolds. Everything is like a Swiss Army knife. 5 Stars !!
I so LOVE your creation and way of thinking Eric! I want one too! This is so practical you thought of all the little details for comfort living on the road. I just love this!
I love how you highlighted the "boxiness" of the box truck! I've always felt that the advantage of vertical walls and a flat roof would make it so much easier to insulate and work with. Thanks!
Where did you find that foldup table, I want one. Please link it. Also if your solar panels are putting out enough power for your use, maybe think of a solar generator to replace the gasoline one. And last, have you thought of a portable induction stove? We have two that we run and they are great. This video was a real treat to watch, thanks!!
I'm not into "van life" but as a camper / RV, this is a great way to go: much cheaper, fully customized and quick build time. Yours turned out really nice. Great job man!
Love your choices and design...very clever. One question...storing the generator and gas can in the living space...no fumes? I would of thought they belong outside in a metal box on the rear bumper.
Your bed design is similar to mine, except I use a set of conference table-type legs that fold up under each half of the bed frame. When I raise the two halves of the bed, there are two benches with storage underneath on each side.
Thanks so much. I am debating between a commercial goose neck trailer and box truck. Either way I have to have vertical space, as my hubby is 6'7"! We are approaching retirement and I want to got the road!! He'll never be comfortable unless he can stand upright to shower and change. He's an avid, competitive golfer and I'd love to make a tour loop if the country to include iconic golf courses. I'm very glad to hear I'm on the right track with using graph paper to design and consider space, measurements, and layout. Thanks for the tips, I really LOVE the gypsy wagon look!!!
I like this van build. Logical, practical, reasonably affordable and (most importantly) suits his needs. His sense of humor is subtle, good and not at all attention-seeking like some UA-cams can be. I think I would've chosen a fictitious diaper service though to dissuade potential thieves from breaking in. I would've painted a huge cartoon stork on the side, holding a diaper sling carrying a baby in its beak.
One of the best and nicest and cheapest builds I've seen.very well thought out and put together. That guy has an eye for detail.love the livery on the outside!
I understand the stealth issue and having the graphics etc on the sides of the truck. Has it caused any problems for not pulling to state commercial truck weight stations? Supervening build. Perfect.
I do declare that I think this is the best box van conversion I have ever seen and you did it very reasonably, price wise. I love, love, love the company name on the side! Such creativity you have! I wouldn't have thought of the possibility of someone breaking in to steal high tech equipment, etc. Hopefully such a person would stop to think that if you sell high tech technology, your van has been equipped to deter thieves, although you might consider putting some sign that proclaims that your van is protected by an alarm system. Very impressed, I am. Diane in NC
Great van, great job. If I were only a few years younger I could see myself on the road. Maybe not 100% of the time but that is a beautiful little rig, well thought out. Happy trails and safe travels! Jane and her wacky sidekick Lola, the Boston Terrier.
Pretty cool. So if you call the number make sure to ask for Jenny right? One thing about box vans is you can get battery mounts that attach on the frame. That way you have more room inside and not worry about venting them.
It was a work truck and he bought it from a private party for $1500 but it needed a new transmission so he got a rebuilt one with a warranty for $2500.
Excellent job! I want to convert a pick up to something like you have. I got great ideas from your video. Including a bathroom is a must to me too. Fine job! Also, decor is awesome too!

Hey! That's the phone number that Tommy Twotone used to call "Jenny". Awesome! I agree with no stove. They just waste space. Nice job! Nice build. I hate bugs though so I would have some sort of a screen to go across the back when the back doors are open also I would have put a fresh air vent on the side of the truck where you store the generator and gas so fumes can escape
My concern is the gasoline storage. PLEASE tell me that particular cabinet is vented to the outside! You've probably already considered it, but please anyone, you don't want a bomb in your truck!

Thanks! It sure made more sense to me and was a much easier build than Jen’s Ford hightop.
