  • If I had a hammer
    I'd hammer in the morning
    I'd hammer in the evening
    All over this land
    I'd hammer out danger
    I'd hammer out a warning
I'd hammer about the love between my brothers and my sisters
    All over this land
    Ooh, ooh ooh
    Ooh, ooh ooh
    Ooh, ooh
    If I had a bell
I'd ring it in the morning
I'd ring it in the evening
    All over this land
    I'd ring out danger
    I'd ring out a warning
I'd ring about the love between my brothers and my sisters
    All, all over this land
    Ooh, ooh ooh
    Ooh, ooh ooh
    Ooh, ooh
    If I had a song
I'd sing it in the morning
I'd sing it in the evening
    All over this land
    I'd sing out danger
I'd sing out a warning, yeah
I'd sing out about the love between my brothers and my sisters
    All, all over this land
    Ooh, ooh ooh
    Ooh, ooh
    Now, I've got a hammer
    And I've got a bell
And I've got a song to sing
    All over this land
    It's the hammer of justice
It's the bell of freedom, yeah
It's the song about the love between my brothers and my sisters
    All, all over this land
    Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
    Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
    All over this land
    Ooh, all over this land
Hee, all over this land, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
    Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
    All over this land
    Hee, all over this land

One of the most memorable songs (to a pre-teen kid) in early 1963, played repeatedly on my little 6-transistor radio! The song was so good, it hit the Billboard Hot 100's Top 10 for two different artists! Peter, Paul and Mary hit #10 with it in 1962, and Trini Lopez hit even bigger with it in 1963, in the middle of the civil rights movement, at #3. Trini was 26 then, 82 now in Jan. 2020. What a timeless standard for love and peace, "all over the world."

Trini Lopez lost his life on Aug. 11, at 83. He celebrated his final birthday on May 15. He was born in Dallas, TX, died in Palm Springs, CA. In 1955/56 Trini Lopez and his band worked at The Vegas Club, a nightclub owned by Jack Ruby, the nightclub owner who assassinated Lee Harvey Oswald on Nov. 24, 1963.

One of the memorable Folk (anti-war) songs of that exciting time! He, Peter, Paul & Mary, Bob Dylan, and The Kingston Trio made so many great tunes about stupid wars, the civil rights movement, and others that presaged The Beatles and the British Invasion the next year. Definitely, Trini's performance, with the hand clapping, the audience reaction stood out from many of the others. I'm glad he was able to live to 83, compared to others who did not live as long. R.I.P., Trini Lopez.

Trini Lopez emerged out of early Tex-Mex rock 'n' roll (and was an admirer of Ritchie Valens), so he clearly came up with his own unique hybrid folk-rock sound that deserves recognition for innovation (something I don't see him getting in the literature, including Wikipedia.).

RIP Mr Trini López🌿🕊🌿 you will be missed. A great singer, actor, entertainer and Tex-mex. Love your music. We could use "a little hammer and bell right about now." Vaya con Dios, Señor. Que Dios te bendiga siempre y en todo momento for all the good times. You left us on my son's birthday. As a Tex- Mex my self, you made me proud. I will never forget you. 🌿🕊🌿🤗

Well Known my very good song in El Salvador. Once in Halloween of 1982 Trini Lopez was riding in a White Rolls Royce on Western and Santa Monica Blvd in Hollywood with a flat tire and chanting I am Trini Lopez the singer of If I had a hammer. It's was a crazy moment I couldn't believe that my idol was in front of me.

Remembering Trini López born on May 15, 1937. He was an American singer, guitarist, and actor. His first album included a cover version of Pete Seeger's "If I Had a Hammer", which earned a Golden Disc for him. His other hits included "Lemon Tree", "I'm Comin' Home, Cindy" and "Sally Was a Good Old Girl". He designed two guitars for the Gibson Guitar Corporation, which are now collectors’ items. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trini_Lopez

@@jeanettesmith765 The song was written by Peter Seeger in 1949, but his songs are better known in cover versions like "Turn, turn, turn!" by the Byrds. His song "Where have all the flowers gone" is even better in the German version "Sag mir wo die Blumen sind" by Marlene Dietrich. Even Seeger himself thought that the German version was superior.
