And while the cameraman did the same sometimes (zooming in on Don's injury, and when he bared his teeth) they also zoomed in on Andy picking the flower back up, and the plants growing on the windowsill, and they stayed to show Don play Andy the harmonica before the reporter came back, I just think it was nice that they didn't immediately run away with the reporter.

I feel like this film might also represent how society treats depression. Some people describe depression as ''turning into zombies". The two miss their old lives and want to go back to the times where everything was fine. The recharter represents how society refuses to help those people suffering. Despite the zombies expressing mentally and emotionally human emotions they are still treated as horrible monsters leading to the recharter leaving. Just like how depressed people are still humans but society ignores their problems because they're ''different"

@yourlowkeyidiot I kind of doubt it, since besides that one aspect of zombies representing depression there’s nothing suggesting that. That’s because the zombies in the short are demonized to the point where they’re forcefully segregated into ghettos and people want them to all die, since near the end of the short you could see graffiti on one of the walls saying “zombies go back to your graves”. That’s a far cry from how depression is viewed in real life since I’ve never seen anyone with depression be demonized this much. At most people have a callous, disappointed, “suck it up” attitude towards depression that’s not present in the short. Also the recharter can’t represent society ignoring mentally ill people since he’s actively trying to demonize them and push an agenda. If the recharter really represented society’s views on people suffering then he wouldn't have had an agenda and he would simply act disinterested and like his time is being wasted. Even if he had an agenda, it would make much more sense if it was to show how lazy and well off the zombies are, and instead of complaining about their pain they should just pull themselves on the bootstraps, not “look these zombies are still monsters and they should remain segregated bc they still want to kill people”
Personally I think this short is supposed to represent something like allied occupation of Germany after ww2, where the people around them demonized the Germans and wanted them all dead, and there was a debate on if they should be allowed to be independent and reunify, which in the shorts case is being reintegrated into society.

The camera guy certainly didn't leave, but the other guy came in expecting an scene that fit a narrative he already made up. Hear the leading questions the guy was asking, listen to the actual responses. See the two moods the zombie couple were already bringing to the surprise interview.
I didn't see the camera person, but I like them. They were clearly looking to find the story, what ever story that may be. Look at the way the focus on how Don's self consciousness about his lack of a lower half. The focus that quickly shifts to Don when he opens up about what he misses. How they also focus on how Andy is careful to fix the flower vase on the table in the midst of Don's anger at the loss of his life.
Which is just to say, I like the composition of this video.

fart face well on the other hand, you could also say that the camera guy focusing on his lower half was exploitative depending on your point of view, i mean, if a camera-man focused on a disabled person's wheelchair or something and reduced them and their whole story to their disability, and didn't respect their privacy while fighting, that would be kinda odd in my humble opinion and would make some people queasy and sick to their stomach to see that. all people have a basic human dignity and when we refuse to acknowledge that, not to be a social justice warrior because this is just common sense for me, treat people how you would like to be treated, we learn that shit in kindergarten for f*cks sake!. ...........but i like to think maybe the camera guy came with that kind of expectation and then when he focused on the flowers and showed the zombie playing harmonica, he saw through the parts that scared him and his preconceived notions about who they are and what they are, and saw two guys just trying to make something positive out of a life they had torn from them and having relationship disagreements like we probably all do from time to time.
maybe I'm reading too much into it, lol but i thought it was good, engaging, liked the characters, explored something about everyone reacts to it differently and good art tends to show you something about yourself in my opinion, so this was great. look forward to seeing more from these guys. the animation was great too.

You can see how such a thing can take such an emotional toll on a person they may react differently to people they really need in a result they push everyone away, when people try to teach them to cope with their problems, the life they had before is absolutely obsolete but they shouldn’t dwell on that and should focus on each other to help start a new life the message in this film show a lot of character development and the emotional toll on how these things can effect you, and how the real perspective is just changed to see the stereotypes of people the message of this story is so real

I've actually watched District 9 the plots could be seen as SIMILAR but the reporters have different stances on their respective topics. The reporter from District 9 if i remember correctly was more curious than concerned.
Also I'm more talking, "cured" zombies, and societies stance on them. Like that movie Fido had an interesting look at it. and I find alien, and zombie themes tend to have different atmospheres.

I just love to rewatch this from time to time, it's a gentle reminder to not let ourselves become as blind as the interviewer and the zombies interacting in the end is always so heartwarming! The silent cameraman really makes you feel like you're there, the images he focuses on do truly speak for themselves, it's just an insanely well done short

One noticeable thing to me is that Andy is content in his "new" life as he isn't worrying about what he's lost by becoming a zombie while his friend is miserable thinking about the life he had 6 years ago. Acceptance is key to happiness.
