I'm not trying to tear down Aretha! I want to acknowledge that first they are two different artists and they convey two different types of emotions in their voices. Aretha is unmatched with conveying genuine sorrow and deep conviction in her notes and Patti is just an insanely vocally talented artists with a chest voice that literally doesn't need a mic in a stadium filled with thousands of people. And I swear this is not an effort to pick one over because I legitimately don't want to do that. I know they're both so great and if I'm honest I prefer Aretha's voice. But what I will say is Patti vocally did Aretha in this song. I am drunk perhaps I'll feel differently about it tomorrow but in watching this performance after hearing that Aretha herself ask Patti to perform this number and her tribute Patti's vocal range assassinated the song and that's not a surprise. Frankly it's more of a surprise that Aretha would even ask her to given her legendary pride and knowing her vocal range but I digress

You have to know the difference between singing and yelling. Aretha's voice is like fine wine "Excellent!" Patti's voice is like a shot of liquor, great depending on what brand you buy. Just listen to both women and you will see there is no comparison. "Mrs. Franklin's gift is beyond measure"!!!

LoLo Sedan and let's not forget Aretha's 18 lovely Grammy awards,(she dominated the charts) and her ability to tinkle the ivories and still interpret a song while doing it............(Everyone has their favs, of course, but you cannot deny she was gifted at an early age, and those gifts are still going strong in 2015. She's called queen for a reason.
