Their impact is undeniable. 41: Eddy Van Halen transformed guitar playing forever. The band as a whole wasn't to shabby either. P.S: Roth and Hagar are equally important in the band's history. It's just personal taste of who you like best.

Both bands should be higher than this. If Eddie wasn't the reason they got the nod (because of the credit that critics in the mainstream gave him for his musicianship), then the other reason is that early VH was a bridge between early UK metal and 80s metal (glam or otherwise). They were a major force keeping the scene on life support while Sabbath were aging and pricking around with ballads and synthesizers. VH's place in hard rock/metal is legit. There are lots of much heavier bands who liked them and Eddie as much as the lowly glam rockers did. They were Pantera's idols. There's a VH picture book with quotes from all kinda hard rockers like Kerry King, Zakk Wylde, etc about how "Godlike" early VH were. Terms like that. Godlike, astonishing, jawdropping, immense, shit like that. I dunno why the Metallica fan above seems to be shitting on VH, but it's not like they were punks by any means. Atomic Punks if anything. I like both bands. AC/DC fans think they're better than VH too. Same kinda thing. Lemmy said he remembered heavier UK metal fans being pissed about their big hair and all that, but Lemmy said he'd reply that he didn't give a shit if they had 2 buttocks EACH if they could play like that. Comes down to the presentation. Metallica and VH were markedly different in terms of presentation, but I would agree that many heavy rock/metal fans like the stripped down look of Metallica more than showy/happy/witty DLR style. There's a video online somewhere's of Metallica playing "Somebody Get Me A Doctor" in their studio, so it ain't even like Metallica themselves thought they were a buncha fags. www.vhnd.com/2008/10/11/metallica-talks-about-and-jams-van-halen/
@@unholydiver1095 Nirvana is overrated and great at the same time. Musically Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden are far superior but Kurt was a great songwriter and wrote catchy stuff.
I saw Ray Charles in concert he was just flawless, love him.
Ray Charles should be at least top20
RIP Eddie Van Halen
My mom and dad went to ever Van Halen concert. they told me it was amazing to watch them live!

6:22 True. A lot of people forget that.
Victor Borge was the king of musical comedy before Weird Al came along
Metallica and ray Charles top 10
van halen is a little too high - put them at 44, guns 'n roses at 43, ray charles at 42, and metallica at 41.
I would place Van Halen over GnR actually
They're both amazing i like gnr a little more
All these celebs saying The Black Album and Enter Sandman ya ya ya... it was Master of Puppets album that made Metallica
Ray Charles should be No.1 really.
Def arguable
Van Halen is more than that fucking number
metallica should be way higher 42 not even at least top 15
METALLICA I..I,
How is he not top ten? I'm not even a Ray Charles fan be he's a no brainier top 10.
Daughtry put Live at number 1. They are so underrated
Van Halen is nothing without David Lee Roth.
Yep
Funny that Backstreet Boys references Metallica’s biggest sales $ record instead of Master of Puppets or Ride the Lightning
So what?

David Lee Roth is a God.
Van Halen. ¿Eddie Van Halen? One of the best guitarists of all time. That's fact.
'i want it that way's' into was influenced by Metallica
Van Halen being ahead of Metallica is a joke
+DouglasNotDoug Nirvana being ahead of both of them is a joke.
Nirvana = one of the most overrated bands of all time. Still like their music though
+DouglasNotDoug both of them being ahead of Ray Charles is a joke
i think its only because Van Halen were already big before Metallica started out..
