I work for G5 and there is a reason behind the bending of the blades. With long blades, they will either break or bend. We designed them to bend so that it still cuts as it goes through the animal and doesn’t stop when it hits bone. If you want to use the broadhead for more than one harvest, we have replacement blades to help save money. Thanks for the review and good luck this season!

It's not going to cut anything if the blade edge is rolled or not sharp. vitals and the nerves and arteries are kind of elastic. so, if it isn't keeping itself cutting hair sharp it's not gonna be as lethal, not causing a bunch of damage due to the fact it's a blunt object pushing tissue out the way. A cut on contact that stays sharp will hemorrhage and slice and dice what's in its path and cause way more damage than a broadhead that fails to keep a sharp edge. Yall do what you think is best but be a responsible bow hunter, you owe it to the animal to lethally and quickly kill them.

    • @mikeguy9668

The reason for the bending is because it's cheap, paper thin steel. But hey they look cool 😎

40 years of bow hunting and years of shooting fixed blades. I have learned that accuracy is number 1. Large wound number 2 Yes they get destroyed but I know going in. One shot one kill. I use fixed blade heads for hogs and does. But if I’m going in with a big buck in mind it’s a megameat on my arrow. 20 dollars is nothing in comparison to what I spend hunting so I want to be sure. Accurate and damaging

Could be commented already, but megameat does have replaceable blades for $20 (9 blades for 3 per head). Technically, if you destroy blades its only $6 out instead of the $20/head. Which to me, after being shot, I would just replace the blades even if they looked good after before using again for an animal. Similar to sharpening a fixed.

My son and I just switched from the Montec to Megameat. We were getting a decent blood trail with Montec. After one weekend of the Megameat…we are hooked. Great blood trail…looks like a murder scene…and deer don’t go far. We hunt near a lot of swamps in FL and I prefer a good blood trail and deer to not go far.

I would definitely stick with the montec just to feel more confident going in. I wouldnt be too upset with losing a broadhead to damage as long as the animal was successfully harvested but could get expensive to get tuned in without a practice tip. Good luck to all out there this season!

I was pretty skeptical about mechanicals but I will say I doubled up on 2 pigs, one after the other, and the damage it did to the pigs was unreal and completely changed my mind. It actually anchored the second where it was hit. Yes, I did have to change out the blades but the ferrules were perfectly fine and for me this was acceptable. If you don't want to worry about changing blades after every animal then fixed blades might be better but even they have a finite amount of times they can go through an animal before needing to be replaced. End of the day, placement is always king, the megameat just gives a little more room for error.

Great tests! I like the shots into the ribs as we don't see shots on actual meat and bone as often as we'd like with broadheads. This is important because as hard as we try to miss bone it often happens and some broadheads work better than others when they encounter bone and then must still pentrate additional meat

  • @dimensionsofearth
    @dimensionsofearth 11 місяців тому +2

As a new hunter this is proof enough to confirm my belief that a fixed blade is superior to a mechanical. I also like the idea that a fixed blade is better value if it can be reused and even sharpened easily new out of the package, if you want that extra razor sharp edge

So first, the “Broadhead “ MM is not destroyed the blades are and can be replaced. What matters is the blades are still in tact. Unlike rage and other mechanicals where blades are ripped off and cannot be replaced a lot of times. Me personally I would shoot the DeadMeat v2. Or the montec

I’d stay away from the v2 unless your getting speeds above 425 ft per second due to having a more robust collar for that reason so if under those speeds might not open 100 percent of the time

I swear by the deadmeat and mega meat broadhead. With approximately 15 deer between the two, I’ve never had blades do that. There straight dirty to deer. I haven’t had one get away from them. What sold me is a few years back a shot a doe and she crashed just out of sight. it was the first one of the year so I wanted to follow the blood trail. Couldn’t find much blood it was there but not out both sides. Get up to her and it took a chunk of her lung and was clogging the exit, right then I was sold.

Also loved the target cam, its impressive how much noise an arrow actually makes! I heard a slightly louder dinstinct woosh and a delay of impact on the mechanical. The fixed blade seemed to hit quicker once I heard it and the field tip was the quietest

I quit using the Megameat because of the bent blades! I went to the Magnus Stinger 4 blade 125gr8 and no more bent blades! Since straight blades cut better than bent blades and arrow flight is just as good it was a no brainer! And I can just resharpen the Stingers so I always have a quiver full of exceptionally sharp broadheads.

But if you shot and lost deer because the rage don't open on impact.. we know why you switch to G5. now if we can just get you to throw the mathews out this would be top video.. well don't waste the ribs,, maybe catch and cook video next time!!

To me the broadhead did its job, both of them and anyone that buys mechanical broadheads and expects them to last pass through after pass through and re use is expecting too much. I have made simple Rage hypos last after several deer harvests. But To me they both did what they were supposed to do. I shot Montecs for years before going single bevel, phenomenal head.

Sevr does the same thing they allow the blades to bend so it does not snap. Same way a copper jacket maintains a bullets integrity so it mushrooms and does not disintegrate.

I've shot the Montec's and they are good heads. For mechanicals I shoot Swhacker for just the reason you've illustrated here. The way they are designed only the tip and 1" wing blades cut through the ribs on the entrance side. The main blades open once past the ribs and slice and dice all the insides and leave a huge exit hole if it's a pass through. Plus are a little cheaper than those mega meats. So far 2 for 2 with them and no tracking needed.

Yo bro go with the mega meats I promise you won’t regret it. And as far as the mega meat blades go there meant to be replaced. They literally sell a blade and collar kit for the super cheap price it’s the head that you gotta worry about damaging and as it’s American steel it’s tough as nails o have mega meats that have been thru three different deers same head same blades. After three I replace them so as not to dull. And I am using crossbow so there is a bit of difference in the build of the heads for crossbow and vertical

  • @xforce708

I’ll take the 2” cutting diameter and buy new blades. Even though your Montec survived the arrow didn’t. Small fixed blades don’t absorb as much energy and I’ve trashed many fixed blade heads on deer because I hit rock or trees on a pass through. Deer die from massive hemorrhage in archery kills. So, I’ve shot mechanical heads since 2008 and never looked back.
    Good test and content though.

I shoot both the G5 Montec as well as the Mega Meat. The Montecs are extremely durable, fly great, and have always done a great job. The Mega Meats are absolutely devastating! The blood trails are incredible and the holes are absurd! The only down side is the blades need replaced usually after killing a deer, but that is to be expected with most, if not all, mechanicals. I’ve never had the actual ferrule of the Mega Meat be damaged though so the blades are able to be replaced and keep going.

Well said! I shot a doe this year already and for the first time ever I used a mechanical...the Megameat. I agree with your comment 100%. The damage was insane and it was a complete pass through with a 2.5-3" exit hole with more blood than I've seen in years. I was very impressed.

The Sevr broadheads don't get destroyed like most mechanicals. That being said it seems unethical to shoot something that has a higher chance of failure after just passing through ribs. I will stick with one piece cut on contact heads because they never fail.

@KillingStuffWithJosephJackson It is personal preference until you find one mangled or it fails and you lose a deer to it. Had a buddy shoot a doe with the Montec today. Heart shot. Complete pass through and buried in the dirt… found a total of 11 drops of blood. I found the deer without even looking for blood while my buddy was looking for blood. Ran just under 100 yards. In MY opinion, I would much rather shoot the mega meat, have mass blood loss, and a much shorter tracking job and just buy replacement blades than not have a great blood trail. A huge factor is the bow being shot with poundage and tune, but for me personally I would pic the megameat in this battle. Quieter, flies better out of untuned bows, and will definitely take a deer down faster. Shot distances come into play as well, but this is just for my input. I haven’t got to shoot one with a megameat yet but the montec highly disappointed me today.

So think about this for a second. That damage received is before it even encounters the vitals. Dull bent blades aren’t going to cut and kill efficiently. Look into quality tool steel broad heads and get a blade that is sharp all the way through the animal. There is no replacement for quality fixed blades if you want something that will reliably preform on bone. Iron will, VPA, Cutthroat, tough head, grizzly stik to name a few.

One of the many pros to a quality fixed head like Iron Will, VAP, Toughhead, Valkyrie, Grizzly Stick and so on is that they can be reused over and over. All steel is not created equally. Simply making the claim that your broadhead is made out of steel isn’t good enough. What kind of steel? How were they heat treated?

I’ve always heard the deadmeat is stronger because it’s milled rather than molded like these two. The montec and megameat I believe are both molded so the durability isn’t great. Shooting one time through a rib with a 20 dollar broadhead isn’t ideal to have it explode on you

Also the shoulder blade on a deer isn’t hard to punch through it’s the humerus that’s the problem. In all smack a doe with a megameat and I bet you’ll shoot them again.

If the ribs were cooked the bone is a lot harder try it with a raw rack of ribs

with the megameat you can atleast change the blades, i would recommend running the deadmeat v2, i got a deer with it and it put a really good hole in it , deer only went like 30 yds before dropping, i had a complete pass through and honestly really happy with the results

The deadmeat is the best of both worlds in my opinion! Great flight and more penetration than the megameat.

I have killed 6 bucks with the same meat head. I just put new bladed in it that came with the pack I bought. And I bought extra blades.

Probably used the megameat he practiced with earlier to shoot the ribs. Also some people need to go see how Paul Harrels meat target is made

Mega meats killed plenty of deer. Wouldn't be scared to shot it at all. New blades and ready to go Again

Bro let me tell you, I switched to Magnus stinger biz cut 150 grain and holy f*** are they devastating!! It went threw the hardest spot of the shoulder paddle out the chest and into the neck!! I had a failure at my insert so my arrow stopped and my broadhead did not so idk what it looks like but let me tell you when you pin wheel a deer I guess it really dosnt matter 🤷🏼‍♂️ my arrow is still okay though. I’ve shot one into the ground from 20’ up and it came out completely unscathed so I can resharpen it or get repayment blades for $25

I've never seen a Montec come out of the package that was even remotely sharp... I love the head but if they would just sharpen them more people would run them.

ribs are not very tuff, that megameat has some weak ass blades.i recommend a swhacker 1.75 if you want to use a mechanical. all mine have been reusable after passing through deer, no wobbles and just touch up the blades and they are ready to kill again.

You cant use cooked ribs. You need raw. Deer arent pre cooked. The cooked bones in the cooked ribs are like rocks. Raw bones are way softer

I don't really know much about bow hunting just now getting interested in it but I would go with the montec no damage was done to the broad head if anyone could possibly point me in the right direction for a bow for a beginner on a fixed income it would be much appreciated

I would go with the bear legend xr rth it's already ready to hunt other than you need to buy arrows and it's $500 which you can't beat it but if you want to spend the money I'd recommend a mathews v3x that's what I have and I love it but my first bow was a bear archery apprentice 3

I have watched lots and lots and lots of videos on the mega meat, and it's not going to hold up. The blades are too long, it makes them weak and they will bend or they will break. In my opinion, you would be better off to shoot the new dead meat is One and a half inch cut Because the mega meat a 2 inch cut, the blades are to long and there too weak. The dead meat blades will hold up a lot better.

Uhhhhhmmmm your a little off alot of us are capable of putting it through the shoulders lmao I've just been using the nap kill zones for the last 2 years and it punches through the shoulders anytime it hits them but my total arrow weight is about 500grains
