The amount of extra teams included cannot be overstated enough, it turns Blitz Bowl from a fun 2-faction game that is fairly repayable to a fantastic little box with an incredibly varied roster of teams. Even more so if you own season 1 or 2 as the extra boards also change up the positioning strategies. The Season 2 box included League rules too (rulebook should be available as a PDF) which me and my friends played through last year, 6 teams dishing it out over several matches. Pitting Humans, Orcs, Dwarves, Zombies, Beastmen and Elves together while laughing all the way through is one of the best gaming experiences I have ever had. Winner even got a trophy we made.
For a hobbyist, best thing to do with the humans is remove the crest from all the non blitzer players and the spikes off the linemen push daggers and claws. That makes them look different enough at a glance for sure
Great review of a fantastic game. First one to be posted. A couple minor rules explanation errors around end-game criteria, but overall concise and fair. Keep in mind, these games are designed as introductions to GW style tabletop games, which means some of the complexity (variety of skills) need to be limited.
Nice to see this get an outing. I've been playing Blood Bowl proper for about 30 years and it is super deep and strategic, but retains those moments of excitement and wackiness when the dice rolls go wild. Games Workshop's best ever game, and one of the best miniatures games ever.
This game looks really fun, we also have some of these small boxed games in the UK, but for some reason we don't have blitz bowl. I'd prefer to play a tighter, more focused version that standard blood bowl. Maybe one day I'll get to try it!
It's possible to just buy it imported from amazon. My friend did it for season 2 and in a couple of months once UE releases I'm sure you'll be able to do it for this version too
Important point. Any knocked down player must make an armor check, regardless of how it happened. This single rules oversight can have huge consequences and cause the game to run long due to players staying on the pitch.
That was a cool review of a classic (well, a version of the classic)! Nice to see some games are so timeless. And bravo to GW for sending their stuff to reviewers. A bold move, considering their kind of outdated design philisophy. The only thing I would recommend is - paint the models! Showing a GW game with unpainted models is a bit like showcasing a PlayStation 5 game on a 13" monochrome screen from early 90's ;)
The one thing that frost my flakes is that you can not get this game in Canada. I would love the get the ultimate deition but I have no way of geting it. I have been looking for this game for quite some time.
uncertain. They don't really fit my main group's taste, and not sure how much of our audience is into them. But I like the theming and are curious how they made previously huge games into 30 min or so -Ashton
As someone who has played the original versions of Blitzbowl, I saw the objective cards and the new art and thought cool. But I prefer the old timed version, where you have only so much time to score and get points. Plus the old rules had you could run past people but they might (and likely would) hit you knocking the ball away. The other major change is that previously every model would move each turn, rather than having action points. This makes it feel like the whole team is charging forward, rather than just the ball carrier and their support. I’ll try a game, but I’m not expecting to replace my blitzball team. Also the video game is based on the original rules just to add confusion to people converting from that to the tabletop.
looks like an interesting game. I suspect there's few sports board games because most board game fans are geeks who are not into sports. I love both though!
Blitz bowl is the best boxed game Gw has made in the last decade.
Oh please. It's an overly simple, beer-and-pretzels game like most of their crap.
Have you even played games like Titanicus?
@@kaibe5241 yes, it was dissapointing.
@@dominicparker6124 Wrong.

freaking awesome! Yeah can see this being a really fun tournament. The touchdowns just don't get old for me -Ashton
Interesting I play the regular version of blood bowl and this looks like a quick fun alternative way to play
Awesome! Glad this vid helped :) -Ashton
I love the larger 'Blood Bowl' game and this seems like a great way to introduce new players to it. Thanks for the review!

cheers man! Game definitely has a place in 2022, from its long linage -Ashton
The mechanics of Blitz Bowl actually derive from Dreadball, a non-GW game by Mantic Games, which was written by the same game designer.
Daniel - the 4 player version you are looking for is called Koasball by Eric Lang. More crazy and more players.
Hell yeah, gotta check out Eric coming in again with the whacky games haha, definitely a fan of Cthulhu DMD and Rising Sun

Great video and introduction to this nice little boxed game!
Bloodbowl: Team Manager is also pretty good imo ! Maybe not the best deckbuilding deck, but it was very enjoyable.
Makes me wonder if you’re gonna try other games like Space Hulk.

Cheers man! This game just got released, so maybe you can find it in the UK soon! -Ashton
Amazon?!?! I don’t see it there…. We don’t get any of the box games here. Shipping from US for something like this cost more than 50usd
Why do you think that players pushed into walls with a shove and knocked down don't make an armor save?
Important point. Any knocked down player must make an armor check, regardless of how it happened. This single rules oversight can have huge consequences and cause the game to run long due to players staying on the pitch.
This is pretty different than full BB.
Love your reviews shelfside! This game looks really fun do you guys ever go to any conventions?
No plans for 2022, next year most likely! -Ashton

We prefer Blitz Bowl to Blood Bowl, but Slaughterball beats them both--if you can find a copy. Highly recommended!

Dang that's crazy! Maybe try ebay, although shipping might be expensive. -Ashton
That was a fantastic video and review
Will you ever do reviews for other GW games they sent you?
uncertain. They don't really fit my main group's taste, and not sure how much of our audience is into them. But I like the theming and are curious how they made previously huge games into 30 min or so -Ashton
That intro was awesome! Did you have magnets under the pieces? Y'all are so creative. :)
Yeah that's pretty much how we do all our mini moving shots!

Notification gang rise up!
“Sorry Europeans..?” It’s the rest of the world😂
haha good catch, I'll have to say it differently next time, this darn American brain -Ashton
For the best description of American Football Check out this George Carlin's (comedian) explanation, hilarious.
Awesome vid!

If you are looking for Ameritrash...
That copy of Clash of Champions is going to be SOMETHING for you then lol
well, we'll have to try it then! -Ashton
