the thermostat can be checked while the unit is off with ohms but that does not mean it's ok. Sometimes they need to be calibrated and then sometimes they just turn on and turn off. When that happens they don't register temp they just heat until they kick out the high limit. Another way to test a bad burner is the color of the flame. If it burns orange you will be serving raw food. Needs to be replaced.
yeah you have a point bro. but basically using multimeter help up us to do our work easily. if we don't read any reading using multimeter it means he have a defective thermostat. its a simple reference either the part is good or not. if we test the parts is good then we need to jump other conclusion why this thing happen.
@@johnbrunetto check the thermostat proper resistance(1/2 oms or less)clean the thermocouple using scrub pad (must read at least 550 to 650 MV when pilot ON) don't forget to check the possible loose wire connection tighten if needed. if all this thing are good you have a bad gas valve.
lack of power to hold the main valve of gas valve that's why the burner wont fire up. clean the thermocouple first, adjust the pilot flame until reaching 600 MV +- 50 MV.

Kitchen Equipment Expert thank you....
thanks for uploading very useful information
What happens if you can’t keep the unit lit?
if the unit have a pilot flame but the burner flame don't lit even the gas valve are in ON position, check the thermostat first.
I need to keep the pilot button compressed for pilot to stay lit. Once I put control to on and try turning on thermostat everything goes off.
