I found an online community on reddit that shares a spreadsheet that shows what game configurations make the games run the best! No more bad audio/framerate
Hey Wagner just wanted to say I really appreciate the effort you put into your videos and webpages. You were a massive help for me setting up my RG350 and I got a lot further with that system than I think I would've without your work! I'm super excited to see what you do with the RP2 as mine shipped last week! Thanks again & keep up the great work!
Thank you so much for your kind words John! My goal is to continue to add to the page with more/new information as it becomes available. I'm still very much learning new things about it. Hope yours arrives soon, if you come across any good tips please let me know and I'll add them to the page.
Perfect timing as my RP2 Is on its way. I was looking for an “out of the box” demo and startup vid. This is a HUGE help in getting me started once it arrives. Thanks so much for your hard work on this!
Most welcome Kieran! I have a page setup here with a little bit more info: wagnerstechtalk.com/retroidp2 , if you like Pinball there is a video of playing Virtual Pinball on the RP2 also. Hope you enjoy your new device once it arrives!
Forgot about this thing and found it a couple weeks back. Cleaned up the OS a bit and discovered ps1 plays incredibly well on this thing. Having a ps1 top 30 in my desk at work on this device is so clutch for the downtime 😅
You are the first reviewer, and I've watched many, who show this being used as a portable retro home console, using a wireless controller (no lag compared to some Bluetooth controllers) I really like this feature because you can use the same save states on the go and then at home.
Thank you for your feedback, I do my best to think of different ways of using these devices. If you're interested in pinball on the RP2, you may enjoy this one: ua-cam.com/video/SdxzR8FOZBY/v-deo.html
New subscriber. I found you thru Google. I haven't yet gone thru the procedure of getting my RP2 playing games yet. I wanted to thank you for showing what you did with the SD cards on your PC screen. I haven't seen anyone else do so before. I ordered my Retroid Pocket 2 on the 9th of September 2020 and received it just over 48 hours ago. Glad I found your channel! Excellent video. I look forward to watching your older videos and future content. Hope you are well. Peace!
Thank you so much for your kind comments and for subscribing! I'm happy to hear the video was helpful to you. You'll find more on wagnerstechtalk.com , if interested.
Thank you Amanda, so happy you found it helpful! Comments like yours make my day! Not sure if you're interested in pinball (most of these cost extra), but if you are you may find this interesting too: wagnerstechtalk.com/retroidp2/#Virtual_Pinball - just released this evening. Have a wonderful day!
The ZL and ZR buttons are labeled such because it falls in line with Nintendo’s button mapping. I’m guessing most people will be playing Nintendo roms on their Retroid.
I have mine (indigo) for a couple weeks now. I didn’t play with it (and was thinking for selling it again). I’m a iOS user and don’t know how android works. This video and your website is a huge help! Thanks!
Awesome, so glad to hear it was helpful! Got some more interesting stuff coming once I can make time to put it all together, I'm in the planning/testing stage right now. But it will be about using your RP2 in a way that I've not seen mentioned yet and it does the job wonderfully well.
Do it! I just got my Jungle one and it's even nicer than I expected. I've bought a BUNCH of emulation handhelds and in terms of build quality, this one beats them all.
UPDATE: I've heard from more than a couple of individuals that new Retroid Pocket 2's being shipped don't have near as many games pre-installed under the RetroidOS as what was shipped in earlier units (such as the one I received). One individual told me that it had about 12 games pre-installed. If anyone has received the RP2 and can confirm this information by adding a comment here, it would be appreciated. My guess is, they are skipping the RetroidOS portion of this video as I've received some confirmations in this thread that indeed the games are still there 😎 You may want to check out my guide wagnerstechtalk.com/retrohh/#Quick_Glance for additional Retro Gaming Handhelds to also consider (ordered from most recent to oldest).
I just got mine a couple days ago in pink and white. Thanks for the info about the Retroid App. There only seemed to be 2 games on it visible when running the emulators in the Android OS. After loading up the RetroidOS, it showed there were many many many more lol.
Hey man! Great content! I'm having a hard time finding a button mapping tutorial for n64. I've seen a very useful post by Pete_The_Clown in the retroid subreddit but I can't figure out how to set it up. Do you have any tips?
Thank you so much Victor! Everything I have, at the present time, may be found on this page: wagnerstechtalk.com/retroidp2 . However, I don't go into the mapping of buttons. I have been primarily waiting on the 8.1 Android update (which is now available) before going more in-depth. I will be getting to it at some point, once I have time to really work with the update and fully understand any impact the new update has. I've noted my video plan to discuss button mapping. I appreciate your feedback!
Nice intro to this device, im waiting for my one, might see it before christmas hopefully. Going to read you tips page and be up and running with it in no time👍
Haha you're a God dude retroid did email me about how to use retroid os which I missed in my inbox so I have been using it only on Android mode which I'm familiar with emulation with but your video cleared up a few hitches I was having with the machine and I think their retroid os market is what makes this killer
Great to hear and thank you for watching! Just incase you haven't seen it, you can find a bit more information on my website here: wagnerstechtalk.com/retroidp2/ . Also considering some new RP2 content in the future.
Took well over a month to get mine in Australia, but finally arrived today! They are pretty limited on shipping updates, lot of patience required. Also side note I ordered the “orange” colour but in person it’s definitely yellow
Took awhile here to the US as well. Learning more about this device daily, I keep all my notes here if interested: wagnerstechtalk.com/retroidp2/ To be honest, I still have a lot to learn and to add to the page 😉
@@turkeyfishzzz3134 Thank you and glad it was helpful to you! More will be coming, so check back every now and then. Yeah, there is a learning curve associated with this device for sure. Especially on the Android side of things.
Can you back up the included SD card by a simple drag and drop on a windows computer to a larger capacity SD card? I've never seen anyone go to the detailed lengths you went to when backing up. Just curious because that look s like the first thing that needs to be done if you intend to drop a bunch of ROMS to use on the Android side. Thanks so much for you video! 👍
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! Be sure and let me know when you post your video (just comment here, if you add a link it will go to spam and I may miss it), I'd love to check it out. -Jon
I just found out about this console, and I am really interested in it. I am only 12, so I didn't grow up with and enjoy gameboy games, so emulation like this intrigues me. I got a bunch of birthday/christmas money along with chores, so hopefully my parents will let me get it ^^ thank you for this! I had some questions that were answered very early in the video.
You may want to check out this page: wagnerstechtalk.com/retrohh , it's listed in the order of newest-oldest handhelds. I don't know that I would recommend the RP2 for someone 12, it requires a bit of tinkering. The RG351p/m is much easier to use and from what I'm hearing some of the more recent RP2's being shipped are missing many games that I showed in this video.
hey, i got this 2 yrs ago, when i was 13 and beat a fair amount of games on it, i even got my friend one. Did you ever get the retroid, and if so, did you enjoy it, do you still use it?
@@David.Borscht I did get the retroid!! I enjoy it a lot, I beat some games on it but I'm not sure as to how many LOL. I still use it occasionally now but not as much as before.
Thanks for the video - setting this thing up was a lot more confusing than I thought it would be. On top of that, my unit did not seem to come with the hdmi cable and usb adapter like the ones you showed.
Can I ask a question - I'm getting a 200GB Micro-SD to go with it. Can I used this as an 'adoptive storage' option so that it becomes part of the memory? Sensible or not? Possible or not! Thanks.
Likely possible, but I personally wouldn't. Once you do, you can't go back (I don't think). Even so, that would be a question best asked here as I may be wrong: www.reddit.com/r/retroid/
@@WagnersTechTalk Yes, thanks for the swift info - it was the same problem with my Android 6 phone, I seem to remember, using adoptive storage was a bit of a risk. Maybe I should just keep android games on my phone!
What’s the highest capacity MicroSD it supports? I know certain consoles don’t support past a certain amount, and before I purchase a 1TB MicroSD, it would be great to know. Thanks!
The highest capacity I've used on the RP2 is 128GB. 1TB would likely work, but too expensive for me. I've used a 512GB Samsung card on an RG350M without issues.
theres a secondary page full of delivery updates, it's based on which color model you purchased so you'll have to look yourself. Keep in mind theres also shipping time which can last up to 2 months. www.goretroid.com/pages/delivery-dashboard
The community are still learning about this handheld. I'm just waiting for solid info been on the best emulators to use for PSP and DC. General consensus is don't use the retroid app but need more info.
@@WagnersTechTalk brilliant, thanks I will stay tuned. Without your help my RG350 would have been a useless brick. I imagine your in depth info for this will be my go to source for help (when my RP2 eventually arrives :)
What's the maximum storage size of the TF card you can use?. I'd like to put 1tb in (granted, I have a ton of ROMS which should total to a few hundred gigs). Are you aware of the RP2 will support sizes that big?.
I've not really tried to push the limits on the microSD. I'm using a 128GB Gigastone card in it currently. I've used a 512GB microSD in other handhelds and it worked fine, but they were running Dingux rather than Android. I can't be sure, but I suspect a 1TB microSD would "likely" work.
Most welcome Howie. Some have told me they had success simply copying the files from the original to a new microSD card. I don't own a Mac myself, but do give it a try and see if it works for you. If it does, please let me know.
See 12:44 . All you need is a MiniHDMI to HDMI cable connected to a video capture device (I used an HDML Cloner Pro: wagnerstechtalk.com/studio ). However, you can find much cheaper USB 3.0 HDMI recording devices. Here's an example: amzn.to/39rXX2r (I don't own one, but the reviews look decent enough). Hope that helps!
Question for you: how do I save where files downloaded from the internet browser are stored? at the moment it's saving them to the internal storage whereas I want them on my removable sd card.
great video! saving this for when mine arrives. any chance you could do a steamlink tutorial with it? 1st I heard of it and it's really cool that you can play anything your pc can handle (if I'm understanding it correctly)
Thank you and Excellent suggestion! I've got a number of ideas planned, including Steamlink. This unit just arrived a week ago today, so still learning more about it. I've honestly not gotten to Steamlink yet but hope to soon. But from what I understand, you're correct. It basically becomes a gaming client to your PC (the server).
Hi Wagner, Thanks for your video. Unfortunately my RetroidOS does not play well with my 128gb SD card. I followed your step-by-step instructions and when I boot up the retroid side, all the games are there, but most have no preview video and when you select to play the game the screen goes black and then sends you back to the menu! If I put the original SD card in, all the games work fine? Any ideas?
It's essentially an image copy of the original, I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work. I guess the only suggestion I can think of is before imaging the card, make sure it's in the Android OS (not Retroid). Then create the backup/restore to the new microSD. I've been running my backed-up image since I received the unit and haven't had any issues with missing artwork. What brand microSD card are you using?
@@WagnersTechTalk it’s a Samsung Evo. I sort of found a workaround for it... found out that if I removed a game and then re-added it (via store) it then worked. So not sure why it didn’t work first off but seems the files were corrupted in the transfer.
Interesting, I've not encountered that. I would recommend making another image copy of the original and re-image to the Samsung microSD and see if that works better for you.
Not sure I understand, the RP2 doesn't have a touchscreen. I've not personally used this, but perhaps it may be helpful: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.irishin.buttonsremapper
@@WagnersTechTalk I know the RP2 doesn't have a touchscreen but the ability to map controls to touchscreen functions like the GPD XD or MOQI I7 would make more android games playable on this device.
I just got mine in the mail. For some reason i dont have near as many roms on the retroid os as everyone else. And i cant even find some of the games that were showcased in many review videos
I only have two ps1 titles, 1 DC title, and 1 N64 title preinstalled. On the retroid game center i tried looking for games to download and only found 4 games that i was looking for. Strangely enough most games have incorrect names. Such as the Mortal Kombat games in the ps1 category being called God of War. I feel like i am the only one with these issues
Hello sir, thank you for the informative vid! I've been having trouble playing some psp games.. Is there a quick fix to play psp games I downloaded from the retroid market? Thank you.
Hi Josh, most welcome for the video. Not all PSP or Dreamcast games are going to play smoothly, some will play fine while others won't. There isn't a quick-fix that I'm aware of.
@@WagnersTechTalk That helps. I was confused because, I had downloaded one psp game from the market, and it just wasn't playing at all. I assume I would have to load my own roms into the system in order to use the ppsspp app for better luck?
I just bought one of these the other day and when I go into the retro arcade app playing the games and when I press home it lets me mess with the settings now... Mine came updated already
Thanks Thomas, I'm still not seeing it. Went through all the options for game settings on my unit and don't see anything regarding FPS. Maybe I'm missing something or maybe there is a newer build that includes it?
Hey Wagner. Great video. I've figured out how to add games with the External Games Management menu, but I was wondering if there was a way to add emulators? I downloaded Drastic, but I wanted to know if there was a way to launch a DS game through the Retroid App without having to open Drastic separately. I basically just want everything under one roof. I know there's also DIG, but I'm not the biggest fan of that.
Thank you! This device really could benefit from a unified Emulation Station implementation. At the moment, DIG is likely your best bet. Been waiting for the Android 8.1 image to drop to see what else we can do, it's still in beta.
Thank you! Mine had a number of games pre-installed in the RetroidOS partition. However, I'm hearing from some that have received newer units that it may not be the case. One individual said it only came with about 12 games. I can't confirm this since I only have the one device I bought when it was first released. More info. here: wagnerstechtalk.com/retroidp2 . I hope this helps!
@@WagnersTechTalk no problem. I am a retro gamer for sure and currently use the pi 3b+ but and very "not impressed" with PS1 and N64 emulation. I have seen many reviewers get fantastic PS1 performance on this and good to great N64 performance as well. While were talking....lol! I wonder if you would look into Atari 800 and or 5200 on this? Yes I'm that old!!! Sorry to be a bother!
lol, me too :) I made a video last week on how to connect a number of original consoles to an HDMI TV/Monitor (here: wagnerstechtalk.com/retro-computing/#Hook_up_a_Retro_ComputerConsole_to_an_HDMI_TVMonitor_TI-994A_TRS-80_ColecoVision_Atari_2600 ). The A2600 was my first gaming console as a kid. I do have more RP2 content planned, but it may be a few weeks. I have some new products that were sent to me for review, a few you may like. On the Raspberry Pi4, I have a number of videos on that unit as well and get pretty good performance on PS1/N64. I love RetroPie, but Batocera is also something to look at closely. My Pi4 RetroGaming page is here, if interested: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming/ The RetroPie tips video/page goes into more detail about customizing your Pi4, many of those tips will be applicable to your 3b+ too.
Hi, Wagner, so I was looking to get this Retroid Pocket 2 or the RG351p. And watching some other videos people keep saying that the Retroid Pocket 2 is harder to set up and the RG351p is out of the box ready. What is your opinion on this? A few years ago I tried the GPD XD and it was a nightmare to set up, mainly because I have a limited time to try to set it up correctly, is this going to be a problem here? while I don't mind doing a little bit work to make it work but I just don't have hours to sit down and play around with the different options and settings. Which one do you advice me to get? Normally I would go with the RG351p without a second thought based on everyone saying it's ready out of the box but I believe the Retroid Pocket have Steamlink? or something like that which let me play my steam games from my PC. So what's your opinion? Thanks.
Hi Zack, I can't comment on the RG351p as I don't own one and can't compare the two. As I mention in the video and here (see the section below the video) wagnerstechtalk.com/retroidp2/ it's a mixed bag. Some are going to love it, some aren't.
Does the wireless controller adapter come with it? If not where should I get it? I’d love to be able to play on my tv. I was torn between this and the RG350p but I might have been sold on this now.
Due to your question, I added the following section to help: wagnerstechtalk.com/retroidp2/#Accessories The adapter did come with the controller and I plugged it into the OTG adapter that came with the RP2. But, could also have used Bluetooth directly to the RP2.
Great video. But I have a problem. They changed the game market location to just the X button but when I press it doesn’t do anything. I connect to the WiFi but still nothing. Do you know why?
I only have the one unit, so I have no way of knowing what's changed in newly shipped models at this point. You may want to search these forums for an answer: www.reddit.com/r/retroid
What does the partition step do in general? I'm a little confused on how this benefits the SD card/system. Does this mean the SD card is correctly formatted for the system, or does it do something else?
It's primarily for making a backup copy of the original microSD image and/or replacing the microSD with a higher-capacity microSD card. The card that comes with the unit only leaves around 2GB of free space. If you want to add more games, you're a bit limited (many dreamcast games are quite large). By making a copy of the existing image and restoring it to a larger microSD card, you can increase the amount of free space available for your own games. I documented the steps I used here as well: wagnerstechtalk.com/retroidp2/#Replace_microSD_with_a_higher-capacity_card Hope this helps!
tysm! I was also wondering what the maximum size MicroSD card this system can read/utilize, because I see some people that use a 128gb MicroSD, some say it can only read up to 128gb, and some use something like 256gb. Again, thank you for answering!
@BoomTetrisForRyan I only had a 128GB microSD available for my testing, however I'm 98% sure you could use a 256/512GB microSD card as well (I just haven't tried it personally on this unit). I've never used a card larger than 512GB on a handheld, primarily because they get far more expensive beyond 512GB and I can't justify the cost. I did make a video for the RG-350 (not this unit) where I tested a 256GB/512GB card and it worked fine there (link: wagnerstechtalk.com/rg350tips/#Will_a_256GB_or_512GB_microSD_work ). I would expect the same results with the RP2.
@@vRyanXOXO what would be the point of having a card that big!?? Even the biggest files that can be played on this thing are tiny. And if you decided to load on every single rom and game that you could play on there. It would be so bloated that you would have to be skipping past hundreds of games to get to the ones you actually care about... trust me I've done it. Just load it with what you care about. 32GB or 64GB should be plenty. I wouldn't waste the money.
If you want to load up a large Dreamcast or PS1 collection, it wouldn't be hard to fill up a 128GB card rather quickly. Some games can be 700+Mb in size. Or you may want to load up some home videos, etc. All of this can justify a larger card. JMHO
If I am using a usb adapter that supports regular and micro sd cards and say have a 128gb in a regular sd adapter plugged into the sd slot and the micro as shipped with the retroid in the micro sd slot, couldn’t I just theoretically copy and paste the files from the retroid sd card to a larger one? Sorry if this question sounds confusing I’m just curious
Possibly, I prefer to have an image copy that way no hidden files, etc. get missed by the copy operation. Also makes it very easy to put it back to the exact way I received it (incase I host something up). I do tend to tinker a bit and an image would be my recommendation.
Have you done a video using retro arch on the retroid pocket 2? I’ve had mine for about a year but haven’t had much luck figuring it out. I can’t figure out how to load cheats into retroid pocket emulator. I’ve had a few other systems and it was pretty getting them into retro arch. Was hoping I could do the same with my retroid pocket 2.
I've not done a detailed video on RetroArch itself, which is on my list to do someday. The main reason why I've not is the support/questions that would be asked would be more than I alone can handle. So many devices use RetroArch and on so many different devices it would be too much. It would need a very detailed guide which I've not had time to create as of yet.
Please see the 2nd issue here: wagnerstechtalk.com/retroidp2/#General_Troubleshooting If this doesn't help, I don't know. The unit I received works but I have had 3-4 folks say that option wasn't working. I don't know if new units are shipping without the game market, shipping with a new image, etc. If this helps, please let me know.
@@WagnersTechTalkThanks for that advice. Yeah it's still not there. I'm connected to the internet through the Android system itself and through the OS system. And it's still not showing up the game marketplace through the OS system. It's not a big deal have not having a game market. I will just have to download games off my computer or etc. And then put them on do the SD card and go through that route.
Could I ask a dumb question, if I add games to the device via the sd card, will they also show up in the retroid software, or is that strictly limited to the preloaded games and the downloader?
Not a dumb question, but unfortunately the answer is no they won't show up under RetroidOS. From what I understand (I could be wrong) each operates off it's own image and the two can't be shared between each other. You can read/write to the Android SD card, but no direct access to RetroidOS.
@Wagner's TechTalk I noticed in your website writeup on this you have been trying some cheaper micro SD cards. Any luck with quality? Or do you recommend sticking with Samsung or SanDisk?
I've bought probably around 10-15 (or more) of the Gigastone microSD cards in varying capacities from 16GB up to 128GB. I've have been using these almost exclusively for all my testing over the past several months. At this point, I haven't had a single issue with any of their cards. Earlier in 2020, the brand I typically bought (Samsung) was in short supply and prompted me to try Gigastone. Their reviews are excellent so I gave them a try. I like them, hope this helps!
Most all of what I know I've documented here: wagnerstechtalk.com/retroidp2 . There is also a link to a Wiki (under Helpful Resources) that has even more information that may be useful to you.
Hi Wagner! I just subscribed and gave you a thumbs up for this great video. I have a question you might be able to answer: I got a bigger SD card (256gb) and formatted it exfat on my pc, and transferred EXACTLY everything from my old SD card. However, Retroid OS doesn't have any games and doesn't let me access the market (says "game disk not inserted" error). Everything else works fine, all saves, roms in retroarch, etc. Is there a step I'm missing?
Thank you so much for your support! What's interesting is I used those same steps and using a 128GB microSD on my RP2 just fine. Let's try this: Reboot from RetroidOS to Android and then back into Retroid and see if that clears up the issue. May have something to do with the current state of the device at the time the image was created. Just a guess, honestly but worth a try.
@@WagnersTechTalk Okay, I just tried going switching back to Android and back to Retroid OS, twice, to no avail. (Weird thing is, even though Retroid OS has no games and won't let me access the market, all the OS settings like wifi are still intact) If I stick the old 32GB SD card back in, which has all the exact same files in the same directories, all the Retroid OS games, saves, and settings show up fine, and I can access the market. I wonder if it has to do with doing that device key / ID thing? Like when we updated to Android 8.1? Maybe I have to do that again, with the new SD inserted copy the preinstall key over? Sorry if I'm confusing the steps or process. I only updated like 2 days ago lol. It sucks getting old.
One more thing I can think of, when I made my image copy I had it booted in the Android OS. Do you know if you did? If not, perhaps take your original microSD and make sure it's booted in Android, shut it down and then make an image copy/restore. About the only thing I can think of at this point.
@@WagnersTechTalk yes, it boots directly into android each time. I gave up and am just reformatting and re-copying the entire original SD card files over again. It's gonna take like 2.5 hours over a usb 2.0 card reader, but oh well. Thanks again for the continued help!
Was wondering if I could pick your brain about something not covered in the video.... Neodroid is the app that comes preinstalled. How do I direct it to the roms on my microsd?
See the NeoDroid section here: wagnerstechtalk.com/retroidp2/#Emulators_Android You'll have to copy the files to the internal memory for it to work (no setting in NeoDroid to change the path to point to the microSD). However, see the section below for NEO.emu if you don't like this option. NEO.emu is not free, but does allow you to run games off the microSD card. Hope this helps!
Hi good video, i have a problem with the wifi connection, i can connect to the modem but there is no internet and data transfer, but in my all devices the internet works well, so i was wondering if there’s a special configuration to have internet in this device? Thanks
@@WagnersTechTalk Hi, i already check that and still not working, i noticed the it only works with my smartphone sígnal provider by sharing the internet to the device, but with the modem doesn’t work
Should work fine, you may need to contact your modem manufacturer/provider to find out why. May have something to do with the frequency of the WiFi signal (2.4Ghz vs 5.0)
I haven't had a need to myself, but if you hold down the Home button a few seconds, you can then enter "Key settings" and then "Edit key combinations". Once set, you can save it per-game or apply to all.
Based on my understanding, it's not possible. You'll have to copy your own games for them to show up in DIG. The reason, the pre-installed games are in a separate Retroid OS image that is not directly accessible by Android 6.0. What I show briefly in this video were games that I copied to the Android side of things. Hope this helps!
HI so what if you factory reset your retdroid pocket 2? are the starting methods the same for getting it set up or is it different? i'm new to this and just subscribed. still haven't found anything directly on this subject as of yet.
Thank you for subscribing, hope you enjoy the content on the channel! I've not had a need to do a factory reset, but I presume the steps would be the same. Why would you want to, just curious? In this video and on my website I demonstrate how to backup your microSD card: wagnerstechtalk.com/retroidp2/#Replace_microSD_with_a_higher-capacity_card . Should anything go wrong, you can always restore it or move to a larger microSD. Always a good idea to have a backup.
@@WagnersTechTalk well a friend give me one and other then doing my research i tried myself. the roms were all in the wrong place. i have the back up files and will be watching your videos to get it right
In Android, no. In RetroidPocket App, you can download them. However, I've not used this device in quite sometime and not sure if anything has changed.
Some have told me they have had success just dragging and dropping. However, personally, I prefer to have a single image for archiving the original. You can try drag/drop and it may be just fine for you. If you want an image backup, I have some detailed steps here: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/
Awesome video! Especially how to set up a spare card, I will pass this video on for new users/players for know-how- to upgrade the SD card in my channel (working on second video). I’m still having major issues with retro arch (it doesn’t work at all for me) and some of the android stuff, I’m hoping more tutorials is available in the future for some android issues I’m still having. Great video! - BAN 😎🔥👍🏻
Thank you so much Shay! Love your channel, subbed quite sometime ago and I've watched just about every video you've released since. When you say RetroArch isn't working, is it not starting up at all? The buttons are backwards on the RP2, 'B" is select and 'A' is back. Lately I've been using the "DIG" front-end to play the games, it's a little confusing and a bit clunky to set up. To get into some options you have to enter mouse mode, click the "..." in the upper-right, go to Manage Games and change the core. There are a number of emulators, cores, etc. For example using the Stella 2014 core on RetroArch doesn't work, but just plain Stella does (for Atari 2600 games). Try using the RetroArch with the Blue icon (instead of the black), see if that helps. It's definitely going to take time to master this unit. If you have any tips to add to this page: wagnerstechtalk.com/retroidp2/ you can contact me at wagnerstechtalk [at] gmail.com and I'd be happy to add anything you find out there (full credit going to you for any contribution). The page is a bit light on content, at present, but hoping to change that soon.
Wagner's TechTalk thanks a bunch - I just have trouble selecting the cores on retro arch (I think it’s the button issue you mentioned) that might just be me....my error for not understanding how to use it - yes, dig is what I use mostly for android side / it works the best in my opinion - I hope to have a new video showing some gameplay from both sides for this unit and see if there are differences - I’m working on a new episode as we speak. Thanks again and keep on gaming! I’ll be sure to share my notes with you the more I use this handheld.
Very much looking forward to your video! Awesome, sharing what we learn will be a big help to the community. With this device in particular, there is A LOT to learn 😃
That may work fine for you, however I always prefer to make an image backup that way I know it's an exact copy of the card I received. Any hidden files may not get copied using other methods. It's really just my preference and guaranteed to be an exact copy. I hope that answered your question!
tbh i don't mind the crap secondary stick because for the systems you can emulate on this thing its just that a secondary stick you will most likely not use most of the later 3d consoles are either 1 stick like n64 dreamcast psp or the ps1 with the dualshock has limited support in games
Thank you, Thank You. I could not find the Retroid software on my device, didn't realize you had to install it. Question for you, you can only add roms through the sd card not connecting the device to the computer?
Greetings! My question is this, if I just want to pick up and play games out of the box, are the PlayStation 1 WWF wrestling games available, same question for Tony Hawk Pro Skater? If not immediately available, are they available for download on the Retroid Game Market? Thank you for your time :)
There are WWF World Professional Wresting Federation and 27 more pages of games for various consoles. Don't see Tony Hawk on the Retroid Game Market. But, can be added on the Android side. How well any of these games play, no idea. Hope this helps!
I just got mine have you experienced the problem with the screen blacking out when unlocking it? I hear it’s a common problem mine had it not even an hour after I got it.
Hi Cody, I got mine sometime ago and the firmware has since been upgraded (I have not upgraded mine). I have not personally experienced the issue you mention. You may want to ask your question here: www.reddit.com/r/retroid , I'm unable to give you any helpful advice at this time for this particular issue.
Are you talking about de-compiling and altering the code? That's basically how you can sometimes fine hacks for various games. It's possible, but not something I've personally done.
Thank you so much for this video. Just a quick question. Your video had section of "games downloaded previously." Are those that you downloaded? Where can I find them? I'm looking for a few dreamcast games like Armada and StarLancer
Most welcome, thank you for watching! In RetroidOS there was a "recent" category which shows those games that were recently played. To download new games you can search the Game Market in RetroidOS and download. Although, most Dreamcast games are quite large and you may find it easier to copy them from your PC to Android and play it there. Though, getting things setup there can be a bit daunting. Hope that helps!
Hey, great video! Quick question, do you know if there a way to add new emulators to RetroidOS? I'd love to add a DS emulator, so I don't have to jump back and forth between OSs
Can you share your retroid pocket backup file?I bought a use one and I need a file to format the new card.If you can upload a link or file to be download that will be great.
I didn't go with DHL and it took 2 weeks to arrive after I received the shipment notification. Also, China is on Holiday until Oct. 8th. You can find a little bit of info. here: www.goretroid.com/pages/delivery-dashboard
I haven't watched the video yet (will in a few hours after work) but I have the problem that when I try to play a gba game (LoZ minish cap to be precise) the framerate after a few seconds drops from solid 60 to 47 to 32 without anything changing on the screen, and than it stays there, any tips?
You may want to ask your question here for answers: www.reddit.com/r/retroid , I haven't experienced this issue. Sorry, I'm not much help with this question.
Thanks for your video :). since i bought mine from another guy , iam wondering why i cant use the analog stick instead of the old cross on for example the SNES Games, even when i tried playing a PS1 Game it still only works this oldschool cross for movement and not the stick above. Havent found any menu where to change it so i can use only the stick inside the emulator. Anyone any solutions for this ? Would much appreciate it. :)

Just ordered this. My Gameboy and flash cart finally crapped out after 15 years. Can't wait to experience other systems.

My guess is, they are skipping the RetroidOS portion of this video as I've received some confirmations in this thread that indeed the games are still there 😎

Thank you so much Victor! Everything I have, at the present time, may be found on this page: wagnerstechtalk.com/retroidp2 . However, I don't go into the mapping of buttons. I have been primarily waiting on the 8.1 Android update (which is now available) before going more in-depth.

@@WagnersTechTalk okay, thank you! ill try to look at that later ^^

I have a question, has it always took that long for the Retroid to boot up
Thank you, I try :) I only have the one unit and booting is not exceedingly fast buy I can't compare it to currently shipping units.
Have yall had any updated on your order? I order mines on September 7 and I haven’t heard anything from them since

Thank you for doing this tutorial . i am a mac user. can i simply copy / paste from original 32g to new 128g for the first part of this tutorial?
Most welcome Howie. Some have told me they had success simply copying the files from the original to a new microSD card. I don't own a Mac myself, but do give it a try and see if it works for you. If it does, please let me know.
@@WagnersTechTalk I use virtual windows to follow your guides. It works. Thank you.

I didn't need to do any remapping, may want to post your question here as I don't know the answer off-hand: www.reddit.com/r/retroid
Can you do a video on how to connect it to the computer so I can record gameplay, thanks
@@WagnersTechTalk thank you 😊
I got mine in the mail today, I was going to use a bigger sd card but the partition doesn’t show up
Make sure that you boot into Android (instead of Retroid OS) on the RP2 first. Then, shutdown and remove the microSD card and see if it shows up then.
@@WagnersTechTalk awesome, liked and sub'd!
Hi Wagner,
Thanks for your video.
This Handheld would be pretty good if I could map controls to the Touchscreen.
Not sure I understand, the RP2 doesn't have a touchscreen. I've not personally used this, but perhaps it may be helpful: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.irishin.buttonsremapper

Awesome vid and resources
Thank you so much 🤙
Glad you like them, my pleasure!
@@WagnersTechTalk I completely understand. Like I said I have had mine for over a year and am still figuring out what it can do lol.
Nice video good information. Mine is missing the game market in the Retroid pocket app. Any ideas why or how to get it? I'm connected to the internet.
@@WagnersTechTalk thank you for taking the time to reply. It definitely helps!
Quick question where do I download the retro pocket 2 games if I did not have any when I purchased the system
Most all of what I know I've documented here: wagnerstechtalk.com/retroidp2 . There is also a link to a Wiki (under Helpful Resources) that has even more information that may be useful to you.
Hi Wagner! I just subscribed and gave you a thumbs up for this great video. I have a question you might be able to answer:
I got a bigger SD card (256gb) and formatted it exfat on my pc, and transferred EXACTLY everything from my old SD card.
@@WagnersTechTalk Thanks for the quick response. I'll try it and give you and everyone reading an update.
@@WagnersTechTalk ok great thanks! I'll give it looksee
Hi good video, i have a problem with the wifi connection, i can connect to the modem but there is no internet and data transfer, but in my all devices the internet works well, so i was wondering if there’s a special configuration to have internet in this device? Thanks
Make sure you setup WiFi in Android AND in RetroidOS, they are two different WiFi setups.
@@WagnersTechTalk thanks a lot
@@WagnersTechTalk Hi, i already check that and still not working, i noticed the it only works with my smartphone sígnal provider by sharing the internet to the device, but with the modem doesn’t work
Should work fine, you may need to contact your modem manufacturer/provider to find out why. May have something to do with the frequency of the WiFi signal (2.4Ghz vs 5.0)
Any tips to remap the control on the retroid os for n64 emulator and getting the right analog stick working as the c pad?
I haven't had a need to myself, but if you hold down the Home button a few seconds, you can then enter "Key settings" and then "Edit key combinations". Once set, you can save it per-game or apply to all.
Can you explain how to get DIG to see the preinstalled games on the Pocket 2?
@@WagnersTechTalk well a friend give me one and other then doing my research i tried myself. the roms were all in the wrong place. i have the back up files and will be watching your videos to get it right
I'm new to this , so do these devices come with pre-installed games ?
In Android, no. In RetroidPocket App, you can download them. However, I've not used this device in quite sometime and not sure if anything has changed.
Is it a must to backup partition? Is it not possible to just drag and drop it into a new micro SD card?
Some have told me they have had success just dragging and dropping. However, personally, I prefer to have a single image for archiving the original. You can try drag/drop and it may be just fine for you. If you want an image backup, I have some detailed steps here: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/
@@WagnersTechTalk Thanks for the info! I think I’d rather trust you and go through the extra trouble than to risk it.
With this device in particular, there is A LOT to learn 😃
how important is using discgenius to backup the partition? i just tried a straight copy paste and it didnt seem to affect it
That may work fine for you, however I always prefer to make an image backup that way I know it's an exact copy of the card I received.
Most welcome, happy it was helpful! I think most will find copying via the microSD card the easiest/faster method and why I showed it in this video.
@@WagnersTechTalk so the Retroid Pocket 2 won't be recognized when you plug it into the computer via the USB cable? Once again thank you.
@@WagnersTechTalk thank you kindly :)
Hey man I was wondering is there a possible way to mod games on this device?? Just a wild thought I had
@@WagnersTechTalk do you know where I can find them to put on PC and how to transfer them?
Hey, great video! Quick question, do you know if there a way to add new emulators to RetroidOS? I'd love to add a DS emulator, so I don't have to jump back and forth between OSs
Thank you. I don't know of a way to add new emulators to the RetroidOS side of things, at this time.
@@WagnersTechTalk good to know, appreciate ya! Have a good day!

Sorry, I can't. You might try reddit or some other location. Here's my reasons why: wagnerstechtalk.com/emulegal
Did you order with 4px or dhl cause im currently waiting for mine and wanna know if that 2 week thing is dhl
Sorry, I'm not much help with this question.
mine didnt come with the micro hdmi cable or USB-C adapter :(
That's a bummer :( Where did you order it from?
Thanks for your video :). since i bought mine from another guy , iam wondering why i cant use the analog stick instead of the old cross on for example the SNES Games, even when i tried playing a PS1 Game it still only works this oldschool cross for movement and not the stick above. Havent found any menu where to change it so i can use only the stick inside the emulator. Anyone any solutions for this ? Would much appreciate it. :)
