- As we head into the Memorial Day weekend, let us reflect on the tremendous price that was paid by the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Through the sounding of Taps, members of The United States Air Force Band solemnly render honor to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
A long-held musical tradition at military funerals, the music of Taps originated from a Civil War bugle call entitled, “Extinguish Lights”. A plaintive call, the sounding of Taps signals the end of the fallen serviceman’s duty and is the final tribute from a grateful nation.
To those who have given the last full measure of devotion, we honor your service, pay tribute to your lives, and thank you for your selfless sacrifice.
We'd like to thank Mr. Matthew Priest, Director of Culpeper National Cemetery, all of the staff at Culpeper National Cemetery, as well as Ms. Richelle Taylor, Public Affairs Specialist with the Department of Veteran Affair’s National Cemetery Administration, for their help making this tribute possible.

Every time I hear Taps, I tear up. I've heard it at many gravesides, and my reaction is always the same. From my father, to uncles, cousins, and friends. Rest easy, we, the surviving service members, Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marines, have the watch now.
To the 16 individuals who gave a thumbs down to this video; you are free to do so because greater people than you fought for your right to disrespect our dead. But, since you feel the way you do, please do us all a favor, if you live in these great United States of America, please pack your belongings and find somewhere else to live that will espouse your views. If you do not live in the United States and gave this video a thumbs down, well, we don't give a damn what you think.
Not every countries lets Jews be free the way America does. Thanks to all the people who make this possible, and who made the ultimate sacrifice for what they believed in.

It’s been fifty-one years since my brother and fiancé were killed in Vietnam and the sound of the Taps echoing over the graves every year since then, tears at the heart as freshly as it did all those years ago. I see a young bride or family gathered at a fresh grave and know their future will come, absent their young soldier. The years close around our lives and we hardly realize so much time has passed. Except, once a year, every year, the same day, the same time, except it seems a younger bugler plays Taps. And time goes back to the first time you heard those long clear notes, can it be only fifty-one years; it seems like yesterday. The tears are always, always.
We thank you for sharing your story with us. It touches us and everyone around us in so many ways.

United States Tribal Marshals Salute the Fallen
Thank you. I have grandparents, great grandparents, an uncle and aunt and a great uncle among others buried at Arlington.
Thank you goes out to your family's lineage of service to our nation.
TheUSAFBand In addition to those buried at Arlington, my father, a West Pointer and 33 year career Air Force pilot, is buried with my mother in the military cemetery in El Paso, Texas. Mother died first so their plans to be buried at Arlington were set aside. I am preceded by four direct line career military officers including my great grandfather who received the Congressional Medal of Honor. I am very proud of my family’s commitment to our country.
Today,me my mom and my sister are going to see what they do on Memorial Day!

I was a war veteran with my comrades - callen and Derek who both died I still visit them every year and I can’t stop crying over their graves even though I’m Russian and they were American we were inseparable until now 😭

That's a great question. The tune is called "The Day is Done", and commonly performed at dusk, flag ceremonies, and military funerals.
