If you see a high spec one, they’ve aged very well compared so other cars of the same year.

As a fan of Alfa Romeo, I can say to me it’s legit as good as a Giulietta. Albe it more boring. Well the GTD is better looking and looks special. Same price ranges, stimuli performance. For me to consider it means it’s a good car in my eyes.

I agree the refinement for this year and class far outshown the competition and even outdone some premium class cars. Model just came out start recession when no one could buy cars!

Found the wife a GTD MK6 just before Xmas. Only one owner from new with 26k on the clock and 2 keys and full service history all from same main VW dealer. Came with optional leather DCC and the upgraded sat nav and sunroof. Bloody cracking car. She loves it and I find myself nicking her keys regularly if she’s not using it. I had to do a 150 mile ish round trip and got 52 MPG on that run along motorway and A roads. I would like it even more if it had the tartan seats but hey ho. The optional DCC really works well with the DSG box to. Can really feel the car get stiff and the steering get heavier as you go through the modes, and if you put the DCC in to sport even if the gearbox is just in D not sport or manual it will hold the gear just that little bit longer than if it’s in normal or comfort mode. Really nice colour to in that what I call gunmetal grey they did, can’t remember the actual name VW gave it but it’s a cracking car. The only thing I would say is a negative is the Diesel engines in the GTD’s we’re all affected by diesel-gate! Ours hasn’t had the fix applied to it though and won’t.

There was no Mk5 GTD. That ones looks odd - bootlid badges are wrong. Mk6 interior is way better than Mk5. Mk7 feels like a bosch washing machine to me - competent enough but not eliciting any emotion. Very poor MPG too, lucky to get over 50mpg on a long run in the Mk7. But yes, Sadiq Khan will bend you over if you want to drive the Mk6 in London. The Mk6 GT TDI (140hp) is a fun car for quite a bit less money too. Last thing - only drug dealers drive Mk7 GTDs!

I owned a mk7 for 5 years. It was a good car, but had a mk6 gtd before, found it punchier engine than the mk7 gtd, mk7 didn't handle as well, even with bilstein b14 coilovers and poly arms. I've not got another mk6 gtd, the one with the newer cfgb engine, no swirl flaps and uprated fuel pump shaft. Great little cars. I've had my 61-plate 2.0TDI from 2016 and it is awesome, I'm smitten. It's sitting at about 188k. Looking through Autotrader, I'm always drawn back to Golf's, particularly GTD's. I think the Mk6 series suffered through Dieselgate at the time, which is probably why the Mk5's were kept hold of and many went for Mk7's at the time.

The mk6 gtd is the last before the dieselgate tuning they're brilliant also the steering wheel is really sharp looking & the mk6 is a modern mk3 & the mk7 is a modern mk2 so it means that the mk7 should have been manufactured before the mk6.

I think the aerodynamic-look of the Mk6's look miles better than the MK7...It kept that MK3-style line along the sides. MK5's are quality...but are starting to look worn and dated...[unless they're really clean/look fresh & well looked after enough to still blend in]. You can pick up [on average] a high-mileage example of a MK6 GTD say with roughly 146,000 miles on the clock on the cheap now. I've seen some under 5K....

And half-decent ones on the market are still between 4K [if you're lucky] all the way up to 6,500K+....I know if they come with the DPF removed & EGR deleted, it's so a remap works without damaging the engine, as EGR's & DPF's block and puts the cars into limp-mode.
