That match - Through the Eyes of the players | An Eye for an Eye | Natwest 2002 I India v England

  • The 2001 England tour of India had ended in a humiliating draw
    With Flintoff dancing in Wankhede
Dada s team seemed to have lost all motivation as proved by another close encounter against Zimbabwe at home
    & So started the journey
India resurging through a historic win in west indies and England dominating its way through New Zealand and Sri Lanka
To finally meet again on the English soil
    For the NatWest cup
Old rivals were to meet again
Old enemies to face each other
Flintoff and ganguly were to stand again on the same field
    And so it started
    From the win in the first match due to Flintoff 3 wicket haul;
To Rahul Dravid - Yuvraj combo in the second
India looked poised for revenge - going on an undefeated run
That came crashing down on the dress rehersal to the finals
    Ganguli’s heroics amounted to nothings
With the tag of chokers raised itself again
Having lost the finals of all multi nation tournaments from 1999
    A change for revenge
    And payback
    Seemed to be going away
Especially with Sachin Tendulkar and Kumble injured
Even coach john wright couldn’t muster up the morale
That was then followed up by a thrashing at the hands of Naseer Hussain and tectonic followed by Flintoff to take the score to 325
Then when dada fell in spite of an amazing half century
    All hope seemed lost
    But then
    Rose the youngster
    Mohammad kaif and Yuvraj Singh
And started India off on one the greatest comebacks in ODI cricket
    A comeback
    A payback A thriller
That was capped by dada removing his shirt at the balcony of lords
A moment that went on to become an icon in world cricket

Why do ppl say no one is saying it or you said no one gives credit in same sense and stated one of the most said statement? Maybe you wanted to say that a 10 year old don't say it bcz they were too young to know them. Kaif was mainly popular as a fielder, Yuvi was 2nd one until Raina and Jadega came and then number of good fielders only increased with time. Yuvi was more known for batting but Kaif was specially famous and also part of team bcz he was a highly skilled fielder.

The best captain bar none. Taking a winning team and climbing to top anyone can do. But taking a loosing team and pushing them to top only Dada can. Hell he is the one who thought India how to win outside of India after a Decade and a half of Continuous failure. What Dhoni got was the BEST team that Dada left behind with all the Titans India had back then Sachin, Dravid, Laxman, Sehwang, Gambhir, Yuvraj, Zaheer, Bhajji etc. Anyone could pack a victory. But funny enough Dhoni still failed miserably outside India. After first 2Yrs of his captaincy he never managed to perform decently outside India at all. Hell we even clean swept against Bangladesh. Only credit I give him is for T20 World Cup (which actually credit goes to Yuvraj, Gambhir and Sehwang) but still he managed well there. 2011 Worldcup I don't even wanna talk about. Because besides being bling anyone can see what happened there. It is not as plain as what it seems to be. First India had already a major advantage with all the Veterans we had against other bi teams having hardly 3-4 or even less per team as all went through major lineup changes as majority retired and got replaced during that time. Except in Indian team. Next major advantage is where matches being held "India" giving Indians a major Pitch advantage as we get it done to our specific liking(open secret at that time). And then there is the fixing issue which got called openly. So with all that I will never give him the credit for that. Literally anyone could have pulled that Victory off. If 2011 world-cup to be held in some other country do you really think we could have won that. If other teams had older teams of previous worldcups do you still think we could have won. Keep dreaming.

@@KING_DRANZER What a ridiculous analysis man !!! Yes Dada was one of the best captains of Indian team. But you can't just write off Dhoni just like that. Before India, no team had won a world cup in their home country. Yes it does give an advantage, but that sheer pressure takes a big toll. Dhoni managed that pressure exceptionally. ( captain cool for a reason) . 2007 t20 wc was more or less a fluke. India was thrown out of the 2007 50 over world cup as you know. And all the veterans were not there. So there was no pressure at all on India. In fact, they were underdog. BCCI wasn't even fond of t20 format at that time. Everyone was given the liberty to just express themselves. And they did that. Am not saying it's just luck, but in t20 cricket luck does play a major role (ask Pakistan after it lost to India in t20 wc 2022).
Anyways, you said India can't win outside subcontinent!!! Do you know anything about Champions Trophy 2013 ? Please do some digging. Peace ✌

@@amareswarmishra6870 I think you missed the point where I clearly stated that it was an open secret of "us get pitch prepared to our spec" which other countries never did at their home. Not for big tournaments. Second you also missed the point where all other teams in 2007 had majority of veterans still in play. In 2011 the veterans in other teams were mostly retired as I said all other teams had hardly 3 or 4 veterans or even less while India had 7 or 8. Big difference. I hope you forgot the England, New-Zeland, Sri-Lanka and Australia and worst of all Bangladesh Tours from then. Bangladesh and England tours were almost clean sweep and we dint do any better in others we lost badly. Fact is you go and tally from all the Wins Dhoni got tally the number of wins he got in India and number of wins he got outside. You gonna realize the huge difference between his tally and tally of captains that came before. He had very less win rate outside India.

@@amareswarmishra6870 In T20 WC I can give credit to the team effort they put and they actually played to win. Against great odds. Like seriously back then they went against giants in other teams and still managed to pull off a win. I can respect that. I can say Dhoni did fine driving the team to victory. Not giving him full credit anyways.

45 mins after that, I started to hear a huge laughs & claps from my neighbor house. When I turned the TV back on, it was Yuvi & kaif show 😅.. Hey cricket Raaz can you please make a video on the incident of adding injured Vernon Philender in place of inform Kyle abbott in the sensitive game like (semi final 2015 SA vs Newzealand). And also about kolpak rule and the reason why great talents like Riliee Roussow and Kyle Abbott were destroyed and how suddenly all the SA players left ??? Please 🙏

I hope you have watched yesterday's match India vs Bangladesh....if you stay neutral then you should have noticed that India got more advantage from umpire... like getting unexpected no ball and wides...that Bangladesh didn't got... umpire giving no ball upon virat's request...they were desperate to play minutes after rain stopped... the pitch were wet...virat doing fake throws...and Bangladesh didn't even get it's 5 runs
This is just cheating.. nothing else

I still remember the wankhede match and i cried while filntoff weaving his t-shirt at Wankhede i was literally seeking revenge and in anger as like dada in NatWest final match when we won the happiest tears came from eyes after seeing dada weaving the t-shirt at lords stadium..
I still remember the quote of dada in an interview if lords was your Mecca for Englishmen then wankhede is our Mecca for Indians... goosebumps moment...

Dude. I am a fan of your channel from overseas for the in-depth stories I get about cricket. I am not Indian, thus I don't share your (and your target audience's) nostalgia about NatWest.
    1. Any reason why you used another match's clips for this video? I for certain remember England wearing an all blue kit back then (not the red in front), and there wasn’t a Nike swoosh on the Indian jersey either.
    2. It’s Trescothick, not Trescotich.
    3. Could you please stop trying to sound dramatic in every single sentence? I mean at this point you must have a dramatic tone to answer with even when someone asks you your name.
Anyway, take these as constructive criticism. Love your contents.

    Great storytelling skills!
But it was not Srikanth. It was Srinath who was out in Wankhede.
