Perfect timing with this video as we just booked a tour in the south of Spain and are arriving a few days early to check out Madrid on our own. This is the first video I've watched of yours and you do a great job. Can't wait to watch more.
Laura, Excellent video !! I have taken my notes on Madrid thanks to your blog. I'm planning a trip to Spain in April and will be visiting Madrid in May. Greatly appreciate sharing your experience, restaurant and interesting travel locations. Keep up the good work and I'm wishing you many more safe travels for 2023. Saludos Jorge from Miami
I want to go to 🇪🇸🇪🇸 I'm studying Spanish & my dreams go to Madrid, Barcelona, & Seville. I adore the flamenco dancers. I'm from Baltimore Maryland 🇺🇸🇺🇸 & 100 % multicultural
I’m impressed with your Spanish Laura, well done! I hope we treated well here as you deserve. Come back soon because you have lots of extra things to do in the city and outskirts
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! It's such a wonderful city, did you get this sunshine when you were there too? I can't believe the winter weather we had, it was wonderful!
Laura, we stayed at a beautiful airbnb with a local family, that spoke English for 1 week. We got a metro pass and traveled everywhere. We found the "Origen De Las Carreteras Radiales", Which is Km 0! Madrid Kilometre Zero Km 0 stone indicating the geographical center of Spain from which all six national roads are measured.
What a great video, now I really want to return to Madrid asap ;-). My favorite place there is the Retiro Park and my favorite past-time is to enjoy wonderful food and wine.

After a very busy stressful day at work it's nice to sit back and watch your video of you and Luke's trip to Spain. Very nice video and very relaxing for me to watch. Thanks for sharing the food looked so delicious but no thanks for the blood sausage! 😝
That makes me so happy, I'm so glad I can be part of your day and help you relax! Haha yea blood sausage isn't for everyone, but this one was particularly delicious!

Phenomenal video Laura! The Fuente De Cibeles looks incredible. We've always wanted to make it to Spain, but haven't checked it off our travel to-see list just yet. Madrid seems amazing, and it really seems like there is alot to do here. Great video, and we're looking forward to seeing more! 😊
N.B. Google Maps recommends for parts of some journeys the Cercanias ( e.g. C5) these are suburban trains and require different tickets to the multijourney Metro/Bus Card.
I can see you and Luke moving to Spain, such a beautiful and interesting country to explore. And since you speak Spanish you’re already halfway there to getting integrated. Don’t forget the museums, the Prado, the Sofia and the Thyssen, definitely worth exploring. And have a chocolaté y churro tambien, mmm. Any plans to visit the rest of the country?
We did manage to get to the Prado (after a bit of a disappointment of not getting in the first time around!), but there are a lot of stones left unturned in this city, I'm excited to plan a revisit at some point in the future and explore more! I'm headed back to Spain in March and will be exploring the southern coast!
I'm about to go to madrid actually saw you're video and going to some of these places!! I'm so excited!! did u have trouble with theft?? I heard about and was worried but I'm prepared!! I can't wait!!
Hi! I'm from Madrid. Obviously, in some touristic places on busy days you have to be careful with your belongings, but just like in every big city. Theft is not as common as people think. You may have heard about violent theft in Barcelona, but this is an anomaly and it doesn't happen in the rest of the country
My plans are to travel to Madrid for a couple of days I work for the airlines so I can fly free. Just want to do something for a couple days because of my birthday.
Where did you stay in Madrid? We are interested in museums, the Prado and beautiful architecture. We are looking at Airbnbs, but the one I like is probably too far away...just north of Chemberi. Another is on the north east of Retiro.
I’m going to Madrid at the end of October 2022, we’ll be there for 5 days. How’s the weather and visiting suggestions. I really like your channel as well 👍
Absolutely helpful! We are planning a trip to Spain, but I hear the weather is very hot! We are planning on leaving on June 19th! Is it true it’s very very hot??
Coming from The US I’ll be there in a week. What would you suggest as far as a SIM card for a few days? London had one for about 35 pounds for a month. Any common supermarket? Thanks for the help really enjoyed your video
This may be a silly question but what do you recommend none Spanish speakers do when visiting any of the tapas restaurants? Maybe have a translation app handy? Just thinking about how to order food ;) Great content thanks for sharing.
You can download the Spanish dictionary on google translate app so you can use it offline all the time and just type in some of the words you don't know to figure out what different things are pretty quickly. Some places around the city center have english menus or staff that speak English and are usually happy to help. I found Madrileños pretty friendly!
That was a brilliant video, I'm thinking of travelling to Madrid on my own. I would love to visit all of the sites you mentioned and I was wondering if you would consider it safe for me to do so on my own?
I felt very safe in Madrid and would definitely travel here again on my own. The city is very walkable, the metro is clean and well-lit everywhere, and people were very helpful and friendly.
Madrid is very safe. In fact, it is one of the safest capital cities in the world. Not like Barcelona (which is not safe anymore due to violent gangs, sexual assaults and pickpocket, so please tourists, avoid travelling there). I'm a local from Madrid. You can travel on your own without anything to worry about. Hope you visit the city! We are open and cosmopolitan. So sad that people don't think about our city and tourists prefer beach places
@@mrPp475 Hi 👋 thank you for your reply. I did visit Madrid and I have just arrived back. I really enjoyed your city it is beautiful and I look forward to returning 😊
Toledo being the "former capital of Spain" is a urban myth. Toledo was the capital of the Visigoth Kingdom during the VII century. That's all. Then the Arabs conquered Spain and Toledo was on the occupied area until 1085 (the capital of Al Andalus , the Arab Emirate, then Caliphate of Spain, was Córdoba, btw). When Toledo was reconquered by Castile, it was one of the many places (along with Segovia, Medina del Campo, Valladolid, Madrid...) with a royal _Alcázar_ (a royal castle), where the king settled temporary as the needs of gvmt (or his personal preferences) demanded. The system was called "itinerant court", without a capital city. Then, in 1561, the king Philip the 2nd decided that, in order to have a more efficient bureaucracy, it was better for the kingdom (well, for the Spanish Empire, not just for Castile) to pick up a permanent capital city and Madrid was the chosen one. So Madrid is the first capital of Spain. There have been others, though, for short periods of time (Valladolid 1601 - 1606 out of an economic speculation by the prime minister Lerma; Cadiz 1811-12 during the Napoleonic occupation; Burgos 1936 - 39 during the Civil War for the _Nacional_ side; Valencia 1939 and then Barcelona 1939, also during the Civil War but for the _Republicano_ side this time), but never ever Toledo.
Sveikas, Laura! Important Topic: Lithuania & NATO & Russia. I’m concerned about you, my friends, and family in Lithuania when Russia may currently invade Belarus and potentially Lithuania.
