Even if Nike is only making incremental changes with this year’s crop of new shoes, the fact that they’re actually pushing the envelope is a welcome change from years past. The GT Cut 3 seeks to reclaim the performance promised by the GT Cut 1, after the mess that was the GT Cut 2, and in some ways, it improves on the line significantly, while leaving plenty of room for improvement with the midsole setup.
ZoomX on itself is probably one of, if not the best, foam compound on the market. Of course, caging it with basic foam seriously diminishes its ability to maximize its performance, compared to the caged BOOM in the WOW10 and WOW All City 11, which feels significantly more bouncy in comparison. For that reason, I’m not fully out on ZoomX in basketball shoes, as BOOM implementation was a trial-and-error process as well. However, the Cut 3s are $190, and other than ZoomX, the shoe feels pretty cheap, even if it performs remarkably well. If I’m paying $190 for a shoe, it should have SOME element of premium materials, like maybe carbon fiber.
Premium shoes from other brands like Li-Ning and 361 are starting to really push the envelope on foam and carbon-fiber implementations, which I’ll be highlighting next. Keep an eye out for that!
Sizing: Go true to size. These are wide-foot friendly. I got a US Size 12 / EU46.
