- What's up, guys! In this episode, we dive into an in-depth conversation about the Twinzer design and the complete process of ordering a custom hand-shaped surfboard with Shea Somma @sheasomma
Somma Special Designs began in my backyard shed in 2008 with a desire to create and sample various niche board designs from the obscure corners of surfing that had intrigued me for years. Hulls, logs, and fishes were the first three areas of inquiry, and I've been chasing the unique sensations offered by alternative designs ever since. I believe surfboards are conduits to experiences, and as a shaper, I have the privilege of guiding those experiences through the shapes I create. I view hand shaping as a creative practice that allows me to tune shapes to different riders at will, in the moment. Shaping by hand is a daily practice for me that is both supremely functional and personally gratifying.
Different design attributes lead to different sensations in the rider, and the goal in creating a design is to conjure an array of sensations into a perfectly balanced board. Speed with control. Responsiveness with stability. Paddle power with sensitivity. Refined beauty with durability. The aim is to make beautiful handmade objects that function incredibly well and last for decades. Let’s make something rad together!

met Shea in Las Gaviotas years ago and bought a board off of him. Nice guy, very talented. Glad to see he is putting those talents to good use
Think you’ll really like the twinzer Yuri. Personally I think twinzers are the ultimate fin set up for speed/drive and control. The panza board sounds cool.
Thank you buddy! I can’t wait to try it! Picking it up tomorrow🤩
Yuris mini super is a crazy fun magic sled! Hope the twinzer brings that experience to larger surf
loved the convo between you two. actually have a kane garden twinzer and was interesting to hear shea explain the fin setup a bit more. cant wait to see you riding the panza when its done
swagged out - nice stuff man
What model Bexon was Shea riding? Bexon makes some great boards.
Thanks for watching! I asked Shea, he has no idea what model that was. I should’ve tried it though.
