Good for you, getting out there in that temperature. That clear sunshine and good gear makes all the difference. I also think that logging is a good idea on the days that aren't pumping during the winter; still surfing but not submerged. Your content is inspiring and isnightful. Well done.
Jersey surfer Here! For those who are not cold water surfers, during the months of January and February if the temperature is negative (celsius ) , the 5/4mm Wetsuit does not provide you with a hot surf for more than two hours. In sea conditions glass like this video yes, no problem. But on days of big waves and strong terral, only the 6/5mm save your life.
@@SkipperSurfReview yes! Definitely the hands and feet is where the cold begins. And when you no longer feel your hands and feet, the surfing session comes to an end. Lol! 🤙🏽😂
Grew up surfing the Rockaways. Winters were colder and wet suits were suckier, back in the 70s…. Man, a 7 mil suit wouldn’t even have been dreamed of back then. Now, even SoCal winters are too cold for these old bones!
Thank you for watching! Hope I will move somewhere warm in a few years :) It does take some toll on my body.. mostly mentally to surf in the winter. LOL.
@@SkipperSurfReview I am very lucky to have a home in LA and one in The Rockaways. Can always find surf somewhere. But surfing in NY in winter? Thing of the past, for me………. 60s and 70s and into the 80s was cool, but 2024? TOO COLD for these old bones.
I personally did not get on with solites. I tried two sizes and was either too big or too small also managed to break through the upper on two pairs. Xcel drylock boots for me 🤙
Thanks for sharing. Yeah, I think the best bet is to go to a shop to try them out before buying them. I feel the board more when I surf in Solites :) I still have Drylock boots as backup.
You stay ripping now bro 😎 those cross steps fire 🔥 from when you first got this board. How you liking this CI Log Bro !? I live Hawaii the surf shop here is selling a 9’0 CI I’m so on the fence of getting one. Just can’t see myself spending $1650 😮 I’m a natural short board ripper from the age of 5 years old back in the 80’s. For the past 6 years all I been doing is Hydro foil Surfing, along with Wing Foil Surfing. Now that I changed my career from construction , to an Ocean Life Guard at one of my local beach breaks. I’d LOVE to go back short board surfing, but unfortunately, it would be a paddle battle vs One Man Canoe, Sup Surfers, Loooonngg Boarders 9 plus on lengths. Now that I have 9 sessions in on a longboard. I know I’m riding the wrong longboards too, but, I been watching your videos when I searched up Al Merric Channel Islands CI Log. I LOVE the last video where your guy Devon said. FORGET ABOUT TRYING TO RIPPP AND IMPRESSING YOUR FRIENDS ON THE BEACH. Just go out and CRUISE and THROW AWAY A LOT OF SESSIONS. Pride is my worst enemy dude, ESPECIALLY when I RIP on a Hydro Foil with whacking sections all day. Anyhow bro, I wrote way more than I wanted to. I just wanted to say thanks for motivating me. You should do another updated video of you ripping again. Congratulations 👊🏽🤙🏽😎🏄🏽♂️
Hey bro! I love the log . A longboarding is definitely something that I wanted to try for a while and take it to next level! Thank you for your kind words and sharing your journey! Much appreciated! Have fun out there! Mahalo!
Thank you for watching! I wish we had warm weather all year around. It's almost different type of surfing in cold water haha. You are slower and feeling the board less. I'm riding 9'3 Channel Islands LOG.
Great video. Got that kia soul electric too lol Some vídeos you say you're 70kg some others 80kg? Is that accurate? You could make a video how it's surfing a short board (or one of your 30s liters ones) when you're 70kg and when you're 80kg It's not commun a video talking about the weight of the surfer for different weight conditions
Hey Carlos! Thank you for checking it out! Kia Electric? That's dope. In the past year I did gain more weight. So, I'm currently between 75-80 kg. The only thing has changed a little bit since last year is that I take off a little bit deeper. That helps to paddle less and conserve my energy. I also improved my pop up a little bit. There is not much difference between 70 and 80 kg when it comes to picking up a surfboard for a session. I think I noticed that some wetsuits got a bit tighter and restricts me a little bit while paddling. I'm working on my diet and hope by the summer, I will go back to 70 kg! Cheers :)
@SkipperSurfReview great thanks You need to test HI MOE 7'2 it's the best board I've had I used to be 82kg and I'm on a diet now (77kg at the moment) hoping to achie 72kg. so the short boards would be as easier to surf as the MOE one 10kg would make difference (well at least I hope)
Naive question, how do you avoid getting sick when your skin is out in the cold wind for those few precious minutes while you’re fighting your way out of the suit all warm and sweating but you can’t quite get the poncho on? Do you pour warm water prior to unzipping? Do you have a special poncho? Do you head inside the car? Or do you just suck it up and hope for the best? Thx
He made the change of clothes with no prob because it was a sunny day and the offshore wind was pretty weak , which does not lower the feels like. The problem is when it’s windy, Even if wind come from land to the sea, then you feel a lot of pain by changing your clothes. 😂
@@enricogatti7983You have to leave the car on, and with the heater at maximum, in the meantime, I take off the top of the wetsuit up to the waist and I already put on the cold coat and beanie, then you can hold it until I remove the rest of the wetsuit. It hurts, but it doesn’t kill you. After it’s being heated from the car, the cold goes away quickly.
You have to suck it up.. to make it more comfortable, I try to park my car with trunk facing the ocean, so when I changed c the wind hit the front of the car. That helps a lot if you have a hatchback.. also when you come back from a session, your body temperature is usually higher in the wetsuit.. you usually have a few minutes till you start feeling really cold. The key is to surf consistently throughout the winter. This way the body gets used to cold weather and you have less chances to get sick. Hope this helps.
Hey! The 8 mm Solite boots come with 1 mm sock. That’s that I put on first. It helps to get into the wetsuit easier and also keep your feet warm while you’re taking off the wetsuit in cold weather.
i always wonder why people put there board on the roof? you know that if you put your front seat back that board would fit in that car with the nose in the foot well, and you can put the seat belt on it to be safe..
Well, the board is 9'3"... the car is way too small even if I put my front seat back... If I had an 7'10" , that would likely fit.. I clearly need to get a van or mini van at least haha.
@@SkipperSurfReview& @tummygoat33 - I have a Golf Sportwagen and it will fit right up to nearly a 10' board. I've had a 9.9 with room to spare inside. It is very nice to put the board in the car because you can lock it in when you need to walk away. Just roll a window down a little if it is hot, put a towel across the window for shade, etc.
Anyone try the 4 mm hyperflex? The coldest water I surf is around 52 degrees. It is advertised as being insanely warm , light, and flexible. Appreciate any feedback on it. I took the plunge and bout the isurus 3/2. They claimed it was as warm as a 4/3. I froze in that suit when the water was only 64 degrees. It was itchy and nothing like they claimed. Total scam and out $ 560.
Yes we need more of these videos! I love how you do the F/C conversion - I do that in my videos too. The board in the elevator was entertaining 😊
