As a partly seld-taught historical tailor, this was very helpful. "Patterns" in many time periods do not include seam allowance; and indeed I usually make manilla paper copies of my most-used patterns, without the seam allowance included. (Having a chalk line on the actual seam makes handsewing a good deal easier.) At any rate, because of this kind of difference, it sometimes makes navigating the space between historical dress and "fashion" a little tricky to navigate. Moreover, it can be difficult at times to pinpoint what one is missing. This helped a great deal in clarifying how these terms are used in the industry, today. I thank you.
Yes, this is essential to all designers. I have them on SALE right now until the end of the year! If you go to www.eliascouture.com/store you can see more about them!
@@susaneliascouture like when you did the Markle dress, I would love to other iconic dresses patterned and sewn, I think it really explains fashion design from concept to final sewn garment.
You really simplified this information. I love designing and making clothing for myself. I have invested a lot of my life into understanding fit and fashion. Using standard sewing patterns is so frustrating as you have to make a muslin and fit each pattern. I need a visual, so I am not able to come up with designs without seeing at least some form of the design first. I just created and fit my own woven blouse pattern block. That has some ease and fits me well. This has been a work in progress for many years. I owe a huge amount of my success to you. Thank you so much. This information is invaluable no matter what your design and sewing goals are.

I am a self-taught sewer. I am now in my early 60's and trying to understand and learn pattern-drafting. I am now drawing a block of my own body and am unsure of the lines or curves to put in the bust-waist-hips? I want to know if the only curves of a block are the neck and armhole?
I am so glad you are wanting to make a pattern block for yourself. I have just released All my block patterns in sizes in pdf forms to have and print. You can see them here: eliascouture.com/store. Sloper means no seam allowance. Pattern blocks have seam allowance In Sloper did you add ease allowance? Or we have to add ease allowance in pattern Block?
Every pattern block or Sloper has ease. The amount of ease differs from a Sloper with wearing ease than a pattern block has design ease. Want to learn more? Become a member of my channel and you get me live once a month to go into detail with your questions

Thank you for your detailed explanation. But, I draft my "patterns" without sewing allowances. I just include the sewing allowances on the fabric.

Awwww
Wow. I didn’t know that. Thank you
Very helpful-thanks very much.
I’m so glad you liked it! Check out my newest video I just posted yesterday!
what kind of paper (or card stock) do you use? I'm looking for the thicker cream-colored one.

gottcha
finally i understand it 😊😊 thank you
It is so much easier to work with patterns without seam allowances. I add allowances directly on a fabric
There we go!!
Wow! Interesting
Wow
Thanks ma'am.
How do you adjust the pattern for different sizes? What kind of paper did you make your sloper out of?
I now offer the five piece Sloper set in a pdf pattern in sizes. Here is the link eliascouture.com/store/yr9tjeyzla5r6hk7y2bq6veoyty60k. The hard copy pattern was made in oaktag
In Europe few patterns have seam allowances.
That is what I hear now, also. Thanks for letting me know.
Hi! I see that a lot of slopers are made out of that yellow hard paper. Is there a name for that? I would want to use the same thing 🥺
It’s called oak tag
@@susaneliascouture thank you !

is pattern important ?like for normal dress .
A Sloper is not a style it is a base block pattern that is used to make other designs
Where did you get the pattern weight?
You can get them on Amazon, I will find the link!
I found your video on what is a sloper. I am seeing your body shape and mine is just like yours. BUT MY BOOBS ARE SMALLER.. P.S. MY NAME IS CHRISTINE
"If that makes sense..... " that doesn't work in a video where no reply is possible... maybe in person.
Comment below if you have questions, I’m here to answer!
superbly explained thankyou!
Thank you
