I don't understand why you don't have as many subscribers as Rick Shiels, I like his content, but your extreme honesty on the golf swing and equipment, and the entertainment of Buggy Time should really be more popular, it just shows what an echo chamber golf is, Rick is honest in his reviews but still very traditional in his views, which is what people want to hear, just what they agree with. I prefer your takes, and go Lockey Army!
UA-cam cares nothing for good info. It cares so little that it allows the audience decide what is “good” or “bad”. Nothing makes me happier than having less subs than people who simply wants to play UA-cam. 👍👍. Thanks for watching bruh.
As an 8 handicapper, I have to look at the recovery shots because that's my misses that I am going to struggle with. I need the ball to be as much in play as I can get it so although a fair comparison for many to remove the recovery shots, my take is with my current game I need to focus on those more. Great video and I really like the Strokes Gained element as it brings a clearer dynamic to the conversation. Thanks Mark.
For years I’ve purchased premium drivers with loads of tech / adjustability and I’ve kept them in factory settings. I’ve moved drivers into draw when loosing the ball right and after a few rounds moved back to neutral because I’m hitting too far left. Why can’t we have a driver which is premium, but doesn’t have the tech we don’t need?
Good test. You'll never see significant differences in driver performance now. Whats achievable in a driver head, within the current rules, was reached years ago. Any significant advance could now only come from the use and development of new materials in the head that could reduce weight further, but would then probably push the boundaries of price way over the limit for most golfers. Mark, how about a driver test with different length shafts? I always play a custom driver at 44 inches. No amateur should be playing longer than that. They'd all play better golf off 44. A test of the potential loss of distance (negligible in my view), against better dispersion and accuracy. You cant score from the trees.
Thanks for the review mark! In America the zx5 goes for $499 and zx7 $529. Titleist is offering both tsi drivers at $549 each. It seems the price difference isn’t as big anymore. I would go with which looks better between the two or go with mizuno or cobra drivers to save more money.
Mark at 5.45 , you were talking about ‘surefit’ weighing.. please explain, is it a fade draw bias or do you put the wight directly behind your strike position? Great unbiased review as usual.. 😉🏌️♂️⛳️🍻
Excellent review Mark, I particularly like that you flag (in a very friendly way) your sponsorship with a very unbiased take on these clubs. I think they are so close for you that you would choose the club that suits the shot shape you want and with consideration for looks. Again, a very balanced review.
Gaining - Terrific video that seems to indicate for most golfers, it really doesn’t matter which brand you buy, they’re going to perform according to you individual swing mechanics, meaning they’ll perform well if you swing well and performance will suck if your swing sucks. Just pick a brand and make sure it’s fitted to your swing.
Srixon are a bit like Mizuno in the driver front. Most local pro shops will only really stock Ping, TM, Callaway, Titleist and maybe Cobra for custom fitting options. Would like to test the ZX5 and 7 drivers but may have to hunt around as to where they are stocked.
Mark, every iron in my bag it's been SRIXON for years.... however my last two drivers (after a Srixon) have been TS1 and TSi2... However my 5W is the new SRIXON ZX with the new MIYAZAKI shaft!!!
I wasnt a fan of Titleist drivers but now game the TS2 plus the TS3 3W. I have Srixon Z785 irons but cant see the ZX5/7 joining them, carbon crown reflects the sunlight too much in Oz if similar to Callaway Epic..
Mark - tell Srixon b/c of you I've used Z star and xv all year (love them) and just built a Z 745 driver with Tensei blue, I have to work to slice this one drawing all day long, love it too and will seriously consider Srixon for my next driver as well, so keep up the good work!
I do end up watching these although have very little intention of buying a new driver. Not only is there little between these clubs, and both cost A LOT, but the excellent series earlier in the year when you compared old blades to new and drivers over the years, convinced me to work harder at my game and not about what I'm holding! In the new year going to add in working on speed and fitness too! Keep up the good work and keep Gaining!
I am really impressed with Cleveland/Srixon at the minute. If I was in the market for a new driver, these would both be on my list to test. Are you doing a review on your new Cleveland putter? Any news on the winners of the previous comps?
Fascinating review Mark. Funny how people equate price point to performance... Srixon more than any other OEM is proving that you don't have to gouge people to allow them to get optimal numbers and perform at their best. I guess the rule of thumb is fairly straight forward... Test, buy the clubs you find perform the best and do away with the blind brand allegiance.
Very close test, it'll come down to how the club feels for the individual person. But with those numbers save your money and buy the Srixon. Only thing is resale value of the Srixon compared to the Titliest especially if you upgrade your driver often. Cheers Mark
Good review Mark. I've read somewhere you're meant to be bias and not very nice. Got to say I'm not seeing that, am I watching the wrong videos? My choice would be the driver I hit the best at the price I'm prepared to pay. I currently game Cobra F9 and not looking to change for the foreseeable future. I think most club manufacturers make decent clubs regardless of price. I'd like to see a video comparing clubs you think are rubbish. Don't think that's been done before
Hi mark, i'd definately be looking at the numbers with recovery shots, especially when the numbers are so close. If I wanted to draw the ball and got these numbers, i wouldnt even look at TSi3. Wouldnt want a driver that would make it hard for me to do what i want it to do. Accuracy over 4 yards.
Gaining. Honest, sensible review, as always. Don't think there's ever been any bias in your reviews, except against the poor shaftoids. I'm surprised they're not shouting about the shafts in these! Maybe they haven't watched it yet.
Gaining, I think it's a fair comparison. When I go for a new club I am willing to try anything that will help me to score better. The last time I went for a new driver I wanted the new TS3 for that season. I ended up with the G400 LST, it gave the best numbers and feel for me.
what do you think about the zx5 vs the jpx 921 hm irons .... i have the jpx 900's now and am in the market for an upgrade and looking at these 2 as my contenders
Just got into the ZX5 driver / 5 wood and a blended set of ZX5/7 irons. Tested the test and went with these. Felt just as good as all the top brands for a lot less money. 5 yards extra for each club is not worth the extra grand spent.
Hi Mark, love the videos. I like to think I’m pretty good at understanding SG but could you explain how the SG can drop after you remove the recovery’s. I’m obviously missing something. Thanks.......GAINING
Most known brands make good equipment, with the regulations limiting clubs, I'd be surprised if many compared against each other weren't more or less equal.
Gaining - Good stuff Mr Crossfield. "There's really nothing in it." is the phrase that comes to mind when I see these comparisons. Club manufacturers have maximize performance to the limits. So, if there are differences in the clubs they're so small they are overridden by nuances in the user.
GAINING Great video and something that isn't discussed an awful lot. Quite often I see people blinded by the biggest producers of equipment and not what works well for them. I quite regularly goad my playing partners when my relatively unknown brand of driver beats them for distance and line and they've dropped over £250 on a big brand driver! Love the content, it's really got me into thinking more about my set up and my game
Gaining - Nice review, always loved the shape of Titleist drivers so given those numbers, if they were mine, I'd go for whichever one I "liked" the most when sat behind the ball.
I use a TM driver because it was supposed to make me better lol.. I’ve been watching you for many years and you said it would not give me an extra 10 yards but I like to learn things the hard way 🤷♂️ lol.. So after your ‘thing’ with TM I decided I would switch, but after testing a few reasonably priced drivers I found no different, so I’m stuck ‘hating’ my driver but saving my money because it doesn’t really matter what the logo says if it’s working well enough lol..
Which wins? I suppose it could be based on how you play. If you want to eliminate the left side of the course, seems the TSi3 would be good. If you need your draw to get extra yards, go with the ZX5.
Gaining - I would look at both sets of numbers and if it was a fitting I would want to adjust the Titleist to try and match or better the Srixon. If they came out the same it would be a sound/feel decision. The price difference wouldn't be the deciding factor since I keep my drivers 4-5 years on average.
Not hit the newest clubs into any meter, but while playing have seen a slight difference in performance compared to my previous stick off the tee. More of the feel and confidence I think than a significant difference tech-wise on the line-up nowadays. There may be, and defenately is difference in sound on brand to another, but since the COR cannot be exceeded, the difference in ball speeds are within the margin and dials down to delivery and bias of the head. How familiar you are with the looks and balance of the club head, draw or fade. What I find a touch difficult in fitting is the grip size. Long fingers and gaming a midsize grip with constant thickness thru both hands. The standards and tapered feels like pencils and yet a sturdy shaft the feel is fragile. Really feel that the club face is out of control with the thin grip.
Gaining - strokes gained/£ is a metric I would always need to factor in. Why Mizuno, Srixon and Cleveland are the first drivers I look at then fit correctly
ZX5 all the way for you I would say- and by the way I worked on my hip rotation speed today- it hurt a bit ( I am old :-)) no question more speed- but the big gain was in my shorter shot strikes where clearly I have got into the habit of sliding into the ball (to make sure I hit the ball first because of the ground conditions)
Gaining - would be interesting to see if there was any noticeable difference for you across any of the current drivers from the main players - really does seem to come down to personal preference over looks/feel/sound (and price) as they are probably all so close (and good)
You absolutely can say that. It is what most of us are already thinking. Get yourself into the proper fitted shaft and most of these clubheads are performing equally due to the COR limits being reached years ago. So, price becomes very important for most people.
Gaining, Price is a big factor for me, my skill sets aren't as able to tell a Titleist from a turd, when I upgrade I do so with Pre-Gamed clubs and am able to buy a higher degree of tech that I'm still unable to take advantage of. Where your's is fade, draw, high and knuckleball, mine is good if I bumble into the fairway. But I am becoming a better bumbler, thanks to you and Coach.
"Gaining". Having scoured reviews in the hope of narrowing down new driver possibilities I finally plumbed for a PXG gen 2 x. Main reason I being they were knocked down to £250 on their website! I picked the low spin rather than forgiveness as I don't want to have to buy another if I ever finally learn how to use it!
I think it's a fair comparison. As ever, you buy into the brand quite a bit as well, there's a reason we have goldylock-zones for products because cheap sometimes feels too cheap.
Gaining Get fitted and play what fits you and your swing best. Looks, sound, feel are the biggest differences in drivers now days. COR is regulated. All of the drivers should be very very close in performance. Biggest gains are in how far away from the center of the face can they maintain a high COR
For me, recovery shots would be left in. My big miss is a high fade, and to select a driver assuming every shot would go where I wanted to, well, would be ridiculous on my part.
In all honesty, you did start playing your "fade" (slice) when you started with Titleist two years ago. I've felt the same - Titleist and SIM drivers slice alot. They might be perfect if you over-hook your tee-shots... but who does that (Coach)?
Mark I’m appalled at how bias you were toward the ZX5 you were obviously holding back and using your old movements of power loss when hitting the TSI3 I can go on and on lmao 😂 just kidding great review and I love that no matter what we as consumers can count on your non bias reviews keep it up Mark your one of the honest good ones out there.
Considering almost all premium drivers perform identically (well, not totally identically but VERY close) I'd say price has become a larger consideration than it ever was. And for those of us to whom price is a MAJOR consideration, we just buy last years model from the guys who always have to have the newest. Win-win.
Why not pick the driver that I don’t have as many recovery shots? Is there something about that driver that makes your delivery better? Cheapest that I can play well. Today the golfer has the best tools they have ever had. Pocket the rest and play more golf
Price matters, I just wish you could get a fitting for 1 or 2 year old drivers, because year to year gains are never really that much, but price wise you can save a lot
"Gaining" People will say money doesnt matter, but it does. If they are performing almost identical, the course will sort out how much roll you dont get when you land it in the rough. So with that being said, the cheaper one will rise to the top.
Hey Mark, Great that you are doing strokes gained as a measure on all your reviews. No one else does it and I'm used to it now as I use Arccos to track my rounds. I think including recovery is better comparison because leasts face it, you can't remove recovery shots on the course. I get that when comparing clubs to your gamed clubs it may be fairer. Finally, anyone who doesn't bring cost into the Club purchasing consideration just has too much money and should give it to me! GAINED.
Think it comes down to going and trying. It is for me anyway. Whatever you like the look of and what works within your budget. Ignore the marketing. Choose what works. Marketing doesn't get your handicap or level of enjoyment any better. #getfitgetbetter
So I’d be GAINING £100 if I bought the Srixon over the Titleist! The trusty old Ping K15 might be up for renewal soon and I was set on Ping or Titleist but I might have to add the Srixon into the mix. Always a fan of Japanese products.
Yes price DOES matter. I just bought a new PXG 0811 X Gen 2 for $225 (well $267 with tax and shipping) direct from PSG. I love how the PXG sounds - like a persimmon driver's "thunk". They will build it with my shaft choice, custom stiffness (between regular and stiff), length, grip and wraps. It is a good driver and the price is discounted as their newest driver is out.
They are sold at the same price here in Iceland so Titleist is a no brainer. You can allways sell Titleist later on. Not as big market for second hand Srixon

Good test, the price point on these two is miles apart in Aus. Good to have an option at the more affordable price
Australian prices are crazy mate, Ping G425 from Drummond was quoted at $900 😂
"Gaining" I would never have looked at Srixon drivers before, but after this review it has put its name in the hat. Cracking review Mark 👌
For years I’ve purchased premium drivers with loads of tech / adjustability and I’ve kept them in factory settings. 2 good looking drivers but I'm sticking with my speedzone extreme.

Basically recovery removed is shots that don’t hit the fairway taken out.
Any announcement of club winners 🏆?

Gaining. Just waiting for srixon uk to announce their fitting day schedule for 2021. Gotta try the zx7s and get fitted for some zipcore wedges.

With your Srixon hat on I would say you are very fair in your review. But are either much better than a good driver from 5 or even 10 years ago?
I just sold my TS3. For the first time ever, a Srixon driver is on my 'must try' list for the top spot in my bag
Gaining - Good stuff Mr Crossfield. "There's really nothing in it." is the phrase that comes to mind when I see these comparisons. Club manufacturers have maximize performance to the limits. So, if there are differences in the clubs they're so small they are overridden by nuances in the user.

Love the content, it's really got me into thinking more about my set up and my game
Gaining. Very interesting and slightly amusing comparison Mark. Does make you wonder with the difference in price though.
Another good and interesting review. Practice and test. What about go faster stripes for increased speed. Gaining.
Gaining - Nice review, always loved the shape of Titleist drivers so given those numbers, if they were mine, I'd go for whichever one I "liked" the most when sat behind the ball.
The speed struggle is real. Ups and downs to it big time. Then you try to bring it to the course! Keep it going Mark.

Havent used Srixon clubs at all, still have my Titleist DCI irons though stored away
RAD Speed seems to be a bomber for ole Mark. I may get fit for one this year. Love the matte finish.

Gaining! Never tried a Srixon driver but certainly looks like it should be on the list. Now just have to find somewhere that has them...
Great review. It Shows Srixon is right there with the top dogs. Comes down to looks and sound/feel preference.
When they are that close it got to come down to price and how it feels and looks behind ball
Merry Christmas to you and coach think I can get those FootJoy size 15 this year
Gaining. Running out of boundaries to push these companies now. All the same no matter what brand. Nice work brah x
Gaining - like the review and very fair review and comments - can still see that your heart is with Titleist but head is with Srixon!

Yes I think you can mention price as this is a factor for some people in purchasing a new driver.
Excellent review as always Mark 👍🏾
Looks even to me, comes down to performance on fitting day/price to get it in my hands!

I say be fitted for both, and take the one you like, if numbers stay similar. Can't go wrong with either.
Good vid Mark, defo looking to move to ZX irons/woods in the future. Good looking clubs and stats aint half bad either 😃
Price matters, I just wish you could get a fitting for 1 or 2 year old drivers, because year to year gains are never really that much, but price wise you can save a lot
I play all Srixon zx5s, best clubs on the market by a long way and value for money
"Gaining"
People will say money doesnt matter, but it does. If they are performing almost identical, the course will sort out how much roll you dont get when you land it in the rough. So with that being said, the cheaper one will rise to the top.
ZX 5 has some wonderful shaft choices available as well
I used to play Srixon and loved it. I think it will beat Titleist. Now to finish watching...
Gaming the ZX5? Whatever happened top the XXIO uber light driver?
Hey Mark,
Great that you are doing strokes gained as a measure on all your reviews.
GAINED.
Gaining. I currently use the 585 i find it quite good.
I hope to be gaining with the Cobra draw driver I got for Christmas 🎄
Think it comes down to going and trying. It is for me anyway. Whatever you like the look of and what works within your budget. Ignore the marketing. Choose what works. Marketing doesn't get your handicap or level of enjoyment any better. #getfitgetbetter
Gaining
Drivers are big money. Like Srixon, Cobra are on my radar due to 'relatively' more sensible pricing and producing great clubs 👍
“Gaining “
Srixon upping their driver game for sure. Good numbers Mark. Keep jumping 👍
So I’d be GAINING £100 if I bought the Srixon over the Titleist!
The trusty old Ping K15 might be up for renewal soon and I was set on Ping or Titleist but I might have to add the Srixon into the mix. Always a fan of Japanese products.
Gaining, happy to sacrifice distance over accuracy but we all buy into marketing and brand loyalty
I’m playing the Z585 right now. Come on Srixon! 💪🏼⛳️🏌🏽♂️ Gaining!
Is coach practicing the triangle in the background?
They are sold at the same price here in Iceland so Titleist is a no brainer. You can allways sell Titleist later on. Not as big market for second hand Srixon
