    Talking about "That's not viking music" you made me laugh in agreeing. But that's something with the extension of names: people says Running Wild is some sort of pirate music but they made only one or two songs about it; and Machiavelus was not so auhoritary, he wrote The Prince when he was trying to lick the Medici's boots, but before that (or actually) he was very democratic and made a relevant volume about the Titus Livius' government where that's visible. Then, Reality is a thing, and language is another different thing.
    I don't know if you have some level on "autism", but I do, and names are a true nightmare sometimes because of that: looks like people use the words with less discipline than we think... and there's not much to do. 😵
    Good luck with the new name, I agree with the rectification: viking bro feels less spiritual and more compatible with academic content.. just... well... don't think too much about the "you are not a viking, but a rookie scandinavian culture expert" thing. 😈🙃😅 Just joking. For me, finding a perfect name is very difficult, maybe impossible, but I recognize your effort trying to find a good name, and I find the new one better. Don't push yourself too much, there are a lot of channels on UA-cam with not very fitting names, but there is quality content on them, and channel names can be changed a lot of times, they can even be used as temporary vehicles; and reality is more relevant than labels.
    You have done it well, anyways. Keep making nice videos with nice teachings. And... yes, if you want to talk about your religious experiences, that's your place, you are the king here, personally I will be happy to listen.
    Good luck in your life, bro. 😊👍

      You're saying a lot of wise things! I know that some people do not even look at the name of the channel, just at what it has to offer. Which is great, but I got comments about the name specifically so I think this one will be more fun, I like it more!
      And what you said first is definitely also true, that what we know from history is not really the same as reality. That's why we need as many voices as we can, to create an idea that comes close to something of a whole picture. We will obviously never fully understand something that we only have fragments of sources too, and that's why we have to stay aware of the gaps in our knowledge and not pretend we know everything :)

    Im pretty sure Viking refers to Norse/scandinavian people who were basically plunderers. I think its funny that so many people identify with vikings without knowing the context of the term.

    • @TheQueerVikingBro
      @TheQueerVikingBro  2 місяці тому

      @@Watercloud-11 it is definitely funny, however, even researchers are not fully in agreement as to what they would like the term Viking to refer to, so I don’t blame people for wanting to identify with it. At the end of the day they will never be “real vikings” because they cannot become 8th to 11th century seafarers from what we now call Scandinavia, but hey…

      @@TheQueerVikingBro You probarbly know more than me about Vikings even tho im from Norway, but here is one section from a Norwegian dictionary. Ifølge én forklaring skal det være avledet av hunkjønnsordet vík (bukt), eller det beslektede víkja («å vike»), altså noen som trekker seg tilbake til, eller gjemmer seg i, en vik for å gjøre strandhogg eller vente på forbipasserende handelsskip som kan angripes. TRANSLATION - According to one explanation, it should be derived from the feminine word vík (bay), or the related víkja ("to cove"), i.e. someone who retreats to, or hides in, a cove to do beach cutting or wait for passing merchant ships that can be attacked.

      But honestly thinking about it, the word Vik/Bay does not have anything to do with plundering. It could just refer to people living in the bay area. so why itshas come to be associated with people that plunder is kinda odd.

    • @TheQueerVikingBro
      @TheQueerVikingBro  Місяць тому

      I know, I can read Norwegian :) But as you see for yourself, the definition states that there could be different origins of the word. And like you said, it could just mean people from any bay or from the Viken region, not necessarily related to plundering. And also, not everyone from the Viking Age was actually going on voyages. It wouldn't be possible without the people on land, making the ships, weaving the sails, training for battle and for trade relations. A few scholars have stopped using the term altogether and say Late Iron Age Scandinavians, which is a term that I like, BUT the concept of Scandinavia as a regio did not exist back then so is it really fair to call them Scandinavians?
      Anyways I don't think these are questions that can, or even should, be fully answered. It's okay for words to have a wide meaning and it's okay to look at the same phenomenon or same group of people from different viewpoints!

      And also the fact that this period is even considered important in European history is because of English chronicles that first use the word "wichingos". So yes, the period has been defined by the (understandably) very biased view of Christian Englishmen under attack from a tiny percentage of the population from the regions that are now Norway and Denmark (Swedes were more active in the east, but groups were mixed).

    Ooo! Exciting things to come! It's going to be awesome to learn the "modern academic" understanding of the viking age and how the ideas differ from when they first started studying the artifacts.
    I'd also be interested in hearing how you "discovered" paganism and what, if anything, you still carry belief-wise from your roman cathiloc upbringing.
    In terms of patreon, i'd be interested in hearing more about the types of exclusives that you would have there.

      Ah that's definitely good idea for a topic! Thanks for the suggestion!
      Regarding Patreon, I still have to figure out what I'd put there, but definitely the possibility to get "closer" like a chat with me/other subscribers, maybe live videos once in a while, but I was also thinking about putting out some videos in more of a lecture style, with more references to further reading topics etc.
      But honestly it all depends on how many people are interested and what exactly you guys are interested in 😊
