I agree the magazines are outrageous! I will say though if you get the annual membership it’s better I did that for my mum last year as she lives in the uk 🇬🇧 and it came with a giant set of interchangeable knitting needles in a very cool box
I went to Joann's today, too. I got the yarn for my little llama/alpaca I'm going to make. (Your friend inspired me!☺) I am also going to make a surprise one for a lady at my doctor's office. Her work station has several llama/alpacas for her passion. ☺ I'm using Yarspiration's/Crochet Crowd's pattern and youtube tutorial if anyone else wants to make one without all the research to choose the pattern. It was the closest I could find to yours that I fell in love with. Salmon, cream, green. Those are great shades together. Gonna be a beautiful throw.

That magazine looks like “Simply Crochet” from the UK. I subscribed to it for years because it was so expensive at Joann’s. They almost always had added patterns (Edits) and things like the hook. Got a new Mary Maxim catalog today and Bernat Lattice is 50% off for $5.99/skein. It’s a tube with the fiber blown into it.
I view crochet magazines using the Libby App that can be used with my local library card. You can only print patterns if you take a screen shot but it works for me! You also have access to older issues.

lattice reminds me of a couch from the 70's that got a hole in it and you can see the strands of fabric. It's just me but it looks like a nightmare to work up and frogging. I wish you would of grabbed a hook and took 30 seconds to show us. I mean, a couple rows would of sufficed.
