  • RANDOM CHAMPS | Title Changes We Never Saw Coming!
Often in wrestling when someone wins a title, it's expected. Hell, often it’s the climax of a long running story. Just look at Steve Austin in 1998 or Cody Rhodes in 2024. Other times though, a title change seems to come out of nowhere and surprise us all. But what are the biggest examples of this in wrestling history? Well, that’s exactly what we’re going to be looking at right now, starting with one of the more recent examples, Ethan Page becoming NXT World Champion.

I am notorious for how I attack certain people in the business, but in Ethan Page's case... it like many is all kayfabe. The man is a talent, but his "random" winning of the NXT main title was a bit of a set up similar to how ECW handled Justin Credible. Him never having gotten a clean win to retain, coupled with how he won the NXT title just torques up the story line perception that "it was a fluke that may never come again for him on the brand." Right now, the best way to go is him never winning another title.. even perhaps him becoming a pariah to the point other heels want him moved up "just so the rest of the NXT roster doesn't have to keep dealing with him." Another way it could go is he "scores another fluke" like wins either the IC or US belts and either he manages to do it again.. or he ends up "proving himself" by being a contradictory heel, by pulling all of the heel type promos and other stuff.. but in the matches winning cleanly. WWE really needs a few of those these days.
However... the "Randomness" of the Motor City Machine Guns winning isn't really that random: both Alex and Chris have held multiple tag titles.. and also singles belts as well.
