Great way to start a Sunday. I recently picked up a looper and my experience is very similar. Somewhere short of a DAW but with a sneaky depth. Thanks for the video.
The Line6 green delay with the looper was my first looper. It has amazing creative possibilities, but there’s no way to get perfectly timed loops because there’s no internal clock. The loop length is based exclusively on when you press the record start and stop. That limitation taught me how to create and use ambient style washes that flow over bar lines and don’t need to be tempo synced. I just got the pigtronix infinity looper and it has really good midi in sync capabilities and the ability to slow and speed up the loop. I’m still learning all that it does.
@@MatthewDavisMusic Dude, you have to quantize yourself. If you cant get a clean loop without quantize, that's a problem. I used a kaoss pro plus as a looper for years without quantize. No problem.

It’s pretty fantastic in terms of weaving in guitar and other live sources, especially with a pedalboard & something like the bored brain patchulator.
This looper would pair nicely with any groovebox or any 1 person band setup. Even though the Roland MC707 has a loop function within it, I'm considering the Aeros Loop Studio to be my dedicated looper.
just got my aeros loop a few weaks ago. it's amazing that the workflow is very fluent with only four footswitch. I love this looper but it's hard for me to say it's more powerful than a boss looper. With a big color screen, the settings menu is still a mess and some little problem limit its possiblity. I really hope it can have some submenu to make it clearly organized And Like boss rc300 it also has more than one output. But in boss rc300, you can set the output ports and input ports for each tracks and even for the metronome and drummaschine individually. in aeros loop, i can only set the output for metronome and the audiorotate for all the tracks but not each of them. And another thing that makes me uncomfortable is i can't turn off / turn on the metronome in song page. I have to save my song, go to setting page, turn off or turn on and go back. Now I send metronome to audio out and plug into a mixer to control the volume and turn on/turn off. These are really small small things, but for the people who sometimes get nervous without metronome it is really important. A great thing is since it's realease, it had lots of firmware updates ( i really like the lock mode in recent updates). It is more flexible than any looper in market and the outlook has a sense of science and technology. Hope it can get better in the future.
Came for the looper. But the instead you solved my number one issue with Ableton! How you just loaded in tracks while holding command. I will save sooooo much time now. Thanks a million
Interesting. I bought the Aeros, played with it for awhile, then decided it was a bit limited compared to other loopers. I then bought an RC505MKII and was immediately overwhelmed. It was just too complicated for my non technical mind. Now I’m back using the Aeros and finding it’s not as limited as I’d initially thought. And definitely more user friendly.
In fairness to this looper it looks like you missed the main draw and the thing that sets it apart - the "locking of loops" thing that you were getting confused about is the key to having both serial (one plays after the other, on one track) and parallel (multiple tracks concurrently playing) loops going at once, which is the whole innovation. Because the loops don't have to be the same length as one another, this can lead to all kinds of crazy song structures and patterns, and you can jump from section to section live, overdubbing/deleting/muting, and even altering loop volume -- and can allegedly do so with your feet once you learn the device well enough 😅. This is definitely not meant to be just a scratchpad or SP-404 replacement; it's meant to be played like an instrument of its own.
@@largepoodle6036 lol looks like you have also missed the point entirely. This is like having an Octatrack and being mad that it's not a KeyStep because you only tried sequencing something with it. @@ryanjapan I totally get the value behind how locked sections work, but it irks me that you can't *unlock* them and that locked tracks have to be sequential to one another. Those two specific points do feel like arbitrary board game rules. I agree that they don't matter nearly as much in a live context, though.
The looper on the helix floor is very easy to use. There's actually a few different loopers built into it, some with some wild pitch and shuffle randomization. I use it for sampled hip hop beats and have it midi clocked to an MPC :)

As a EHX 95000 user for the last three years, it has to be the centre of the studio timing as it will send but not receive MIDI Clock. For this reason I use it separately as an incredible acoustic guitar looper with an H9 into 2x Roland Ac33 amps. I record guitar loops in Ableton, perfect the audio using warp and send it to the 95000 for precision loops and live performance.
Kaoss Pad 3 is my go-to sampler. It has overdub/resample. Awesome for remixing and chopping samples on the fly. It's the heart of my studio. Just about everything I produce gets manipulated through it.
I have the Line 6 DL4 (green delay pedal Reggie Watts uses), it's dope as hell 🤘 I'm nowhere near as proficient a performer as he is, but I see how his overdub style would make good use of this pedal. The three modelers leave you with ZERO delay needs outside of the DL4 👍
Not a DAW-less approach but I strongly recommend using the built in Ableton Looper with a Nektar Pacer. Initially quite complicated to set up & get your head around programming it but once you do & see how much power you have at your feet you’ll be very pleasantly surprised. Also since you’re using a DAW you have so many more options to play around with recorded loops & in my opinion is a more musical & less fiddly workflow. Plus it’s only around $220 / €220
Question here 🙋♂️ , if I’m playing a song live and the bridge comes , can I have a pre saved loop ready to play when that time comes during the song without me pressing anything??
Ricky you should definitely check out the line 6 DL4 looper, it’s limited but you can do very creative things like record loops/overdubs in half speed mode then put the pedal in regular speed and those overdubs will be an octave higher/twice as fast. Kishi Bashi uses the technique to make really creative live arrangements and Reggie watts is a master of the DL4 as well. It’s also way more affordable than the Aeros
I have a Boss RC-505 and it is so easy. I might be garbage atm but I am getting better. But it's still pretty easy and fun. Nearly 50 and love beat making, still ;)
I have the Boss RC-202. Its a dope looper, has midi in/out, and 2 separate tracks with a ton of effects. It's half the price of the Aeros. This does seem dope though.
Not sure if it's been said already, but the compressor section in the daw reminded me about the makeup button. I believe it's the stock plugins attempt at gain control, so you still get the compression with less volume loss. Not sure if that makes any sense, but it does in my brain lol
Just watching this a year later but if you're still looking for a simple looper I would highly recommend the Boss RC202! I've actually sold mine but wow I really miss jamming on it!
I started wanting to loop just guitar and vocals with the EHX95000, switched to Digitech Jamman synced with SDRUM, and ended up with the Singular Sound Aeros with Beat Buddy and Maestro. Then, I got into hardware synths and sequencing. Interesting to see your take at the beginning with the tempo out analysis from the freeform loops. Does Ableton do the BPM detection? Great to see your creative workflow and dropping it into Ableton. You should ask for two Midi Maestros and use one in Ableton mode and one in Aeros mode. I think you could address your Cons with part editing.
Hey there Ricky......they have an incredible Midi Maestro as well as their Beat Buddy that can be used as a master for midi control. You have DEFINATELEY landed on a good company brother.
the beat buddy is limited to its own sounds. Use any external drum machine with midi as your clock and you will have much more muiscial freedom with this thing.
Cool review. Since you ask, all the different loopers have their advantages but the ehx 45000 is a piece of beauty in design simplicity and completeness and sounds super fat. You can record pitch changes with the tempo slider, you can record hard-paned music like Zeppelin or Coltrane stereo into it to get a stereo wave file so you can then practice along with just one side. You can reverse loops. You can use recording mode to make it work as a digital delay and control the repeats from one to infinite (and in this case it will last forever) with the volume fader, like a tape machine, which is also killer for fun practice. You can use the tempo fader, which also affects pitch to record a bassline with a guitar (by doubling the tempo then bringing it back down). And it has essentially 5 tracks because on of them is a mixdown stereo track but you can use it as just a fifth instrument. You do have to buy the separate foot controller though which is kind of a scam (sort of useless without it).
@@jojojiles Most sucky thing about the 45,000 is having to get the foot switch separately, which is a total ripoff, like leaving out an essential feature and charging an offensive and surreal amount of money for it. Hoping the forthcoming Novation Circuit Rhythm can replace the 45,000 for me. Cool think about the 45,000 was having it behind my mixer so anything that went to the mixer including returns from amplifiers or whatever else can happily get looped. Maybe will try the same with Circuit Rhythm.
I was super excited to get this but after reading a lot of reviews on it that were saying it's got issues I opted for the Boss RC-500. Those 6 tracks though...
Confused why you don't mention the RC-505/202 here? Just because not a "pedal?" To me this is basically an RC-606 in a compact format without individual track faders so why does it cost more? (aside from the extra track) Currently I am torn between something like this and something like the Tracker... I'm not really doing live performances but like jam.
Those loop pies and their blue color remind me of Circular Labs Mobius. Use it all the time. Imagine Gibson Echoplex. but computer powerful and scriptable to no end.
Its funny the naming the track thing, I have gone through some weird track naming phazes, I used to put a A+ at the end of my good recordings, then it morphed to 22 at the end of track(got confusing in 2022) lol. Still havnt perfected it with Final FOlders always filling up with ideahs and versions but i like the For Real one :) Salute Ricky T

Geez, my experience with the 505 was totally different. That damned thing is so difficult for me, but the Aeros was easy.
I have the Boss RC-202. Its a dope looper, has midi in/out, and 2 separate tracks with a ton of effects. It's half the price of the Aeros. This does seem dope though.
Half the price for half the features
Is this the Gold edition? I would love to see you make a 2 year follow up on it.
Need to see my man Rebillet on that ish.
1 year after, what do you think? (RC 505 is good with drum machines, it has a few different limitations + a detailed FX section)
Not sure if it's been said already, but the compressor section in the daw reminded me about the makeup button. I believe it's the stock plugins attempt at gain control, so you still get the compression with less volume loss. Not sure if that makes any sense, but it does in my brain lol
Yes, you really need the ability to play at different tempos, in different parts of the song. I play jazz, and I really need it.
“MIDI in midi out so I was Im-midi-ately excited”
Just watching this a year later but if you're still looking for a simple looper I would highly recommend the Boss RC202! I've actually sold mine but wow I really miss jamming on it!
Diabase my guy. You in Cali?
What are those headphones???? this turquoise/green/brown pattern stuff and the grid on the sides looks so cool!
Why not just have a RC505?
Do you prefer the 1010 Black Box Sampler for live looping? I love the tip about temp names on tracks btw ;)
Have you tried the Boss RC-505MKII? I've heard good things!
i wish there was a stand-alone device like the op1 tape but with more tracks (and stereo)
At 3:30 -- setting the loop tempo and sending a MIDI start message is a trick that the Oberheim/Gibson Echoplex Digital Pro could do.
So are you saying the 45000 can do fading/decaying overdubs? Also, is there an undo function on the 45000? Didn't see it in the manual.
@@jojojiles Confirmed on the decaying overdubs in record mode. No, unfortunately no undo on the 45,000. More like do-over lol.
@@TROGULAR10000 Do-over? What exactly do you mean?
@@jojojiles Most sucky thing about the 45,000 is having to get the foot switch separately, which is a total ripoff, like leaving out an essential feature and charging an offensive and surreal amount of money for it. Hoping the forthcoming Novation Circuit Rhythm can replace the 45,000 for me. Cool think about the 45,000 was having it behind my mixer so anything that went to the mixer including returns from amplifiers or whatever else can happily get looped. Maybe will try the same with Circuit Rhythm.
@@TROGULAR10000 Also, thx for the quick reply...
Great video
I was super excited to get this but after reading a lot of reviews on it that were saying it's got issues I opted for the Boss RC-500. Those 6 tracks though...
The Aeros can record 6 tracks and 6 song parts
How does this compare to the boss RC-600?
There’s a movie called War Dogs about the owner of singular sounds.
I bought a looper once and was so pissed off, it just didn't work well enough but this thing does look amazing. GAS in full flow
Confused why you don't mention the RC-505/202 here? Just because not a "pedal?"
To me this is basically an RC-606 in a compact format without individual track faders so why does it cost more? (aside from the extra track) Currently I am torn between something like this and something like the Tracker... I'm not really doing live performances but like jam.
Those loop pies and their blue color remind me of Circular Labs Mobius. Use it all the time. Imagine Gibson Echoplex. but computer powerful and scriptable to no end.
Also I can see this looper being a staple in like, LIVE live sets like how KiNK does
Its funny the naming the track thing, I have gone through some weird track naming phazes, I used to put a A+ at the end of my good recordings, then it morphed to 22 at the end of track(got confusing in 2022) lol. Still havnt perfected it with Final FOlders always filling up with ideahs and versions but i like the For Real one :) Salute Ricky T
Looper is cool but where did you get that camo wall blanket?
What’s that tiny keyboard
