  • Adobe After Effects CC 2024: How To Use Audio Spectrum on Masks
    This tutorial will show you how to apply the audio spectrum effect to Masks to create visual effects that react to the beats of an audio layer in Adobe After Effects CC 2024.

    How To Create a Mask To Use With Audio Spectrum Effect:
    1. Create New Composition
    2. Add Background Layer
    3. Add a Texture Layer or New Solid Color Layer
    4. Select the Pen Tool (G) or the Shape Tool (Ellipse, etc)
    5. Using the Ellipse Tool, hold the Shift Key to drag out a perfect circle mask
    6. Select the ’Star Shape Tool’ to draw stars if you want to follow along the tutorial
    How To Apply Audio Spectrum Effect
    1. Drag an audio/music file onto the Composition
    2. Go to the Effects & Presets Panel
    3. Search for ‘Audio’
    4. Drag ‘Audio Spectrum’ on top of the Texture/Solid Layer
    5. Go to Effect Controls
    6. Go to Audio Layer Property
    7. Click the ‘drop-down menu’ and select the Mask to use for Audio Spectrum effect
    8. Click spacebar to preview the audio spectrum
    9. Customize the Audio Spectrum Effect in ‘Effect Controls’
    How To Display & Side Options
    1. Drag CTI (PlayHead to the beginning of Timeline)
    2. Click the Stopwatch next to ‘Display & Side Options’ to add keyframes
    3. Drag CTI forward in time to the 2 second mark
    4. Change Display & Side Options
    5. Repeat down the timeline and randomize to taste
    6. Press Spacebar to Preview
    Finishing Touch:
    1. Go to ‘Effects & Presets’
    2. Search for ‘Hand’
    3. Drag ‘Hand-Drawn Effect’ on top of Texture Layer with Audio Spectrum Effect
    4. Tap Spacebar and the Masks should have a wiggle movement
    5. Customize ‘Hand-Drawn Effect’ to taste
