- Coachella 2022 Weekend 1 has come and gone and with performances by Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, Doja Cat and a host of other musicians there was a lot of concerts to see, but we're here for the fashions! We got our usual mix of influencers and celebrities, although it was a bit heavy-handed on the influencer aspect! From Bella Poarch and Bretman Rock to Charli D'Amelio James Charles, one couldn't notice that there was a lot of style and a lot of questionable choices.

im so glad people are finally realizing how bad coachella fashion is. it's the influencer olympics, a revolve and shein standoff. it's a bunch of skinny 20 year olds with expendable amounts of money in the middle of the desert thinking their inventing fashion while everyone is at home laughing at how bad it is. i'm living i'm laughing i'm loving.
Exactly! I actually want to go to Coachella myself for the music but I feel like itd’d be too embarrassing just to be there. 😭
eesh not everyone is so hatefilled, there are lots of good cochella looks you just have to go to the people that try and arnt just doing it for clout and genuily love clothes and fashion
Just because someone’s a celebrity or rich doesn’t mean they have style or taste and I’m glad this is showcasing that. BUT…
It’s hard to believe because of what music festivals are right now, but there was a time when Coachella wasn’t geared towards celebrities, influencers, and clout chasers as their main clientele. People who went (and could afford to go) to music festivals were a part of one or multiple subcultures (or were at least aware) and their styles showcased that. I think that since Coachella is geared towards people who are interested in mainstream culture the fashion is so much more monotone than what it was 10+ years ago when there was a wider clientele. The people going are generally not pushing fashion boundaries since they’re part of pop culture and what is deemed “acceptable” by pop culture is really narrow. A lot of pop culture influencers don’t know much about music, subculture, or even pop culture history and so the inspiration they have for what music festivals are is basically just Woodstock so they think boho or some EDM one like EDC so they think bright futuristic clothing and combine that with pop culture which is built off the back of watered down Black culture and you get… this. So even though present day Coachella fashion is pop fashion, it wasn’t always as basic. I would love to see a camp emphasis bc Coachella is fashion it’s just pop fashion and we don’t forget that

it feels like for the most part, social media influencers are still trying to have their “moment” while A listers are a lot more laid back. influencers that are more new on the scene/are actual fashion girls also seem to focus more on small designers and brands and are overall more relaxed… hopefully this all means we’re moving in better direction… cuz the boho HURTS
Female streamers are doing far better than the tiktokers imo. Streamers are still not as big, but their audience are older and have money to donate.

Anita’s look wasn’t my fav either BUT the yellow green and blue are a super clear homage to her being Brazilian!
Also those deathers and crystals are a clear reference to the outfits of Carnaval dancers!

@@sknight2810 She has a bad knee, she used to dance at a pretty high level but she injured it badly. She ends up wearing a knee brace a lot of the time. If you watch her documentary they show it
@@sknight2810 During Therefore I Am, she gets down on her knees and slides them open and closed on the floor. At her first few concerts on her tour, she'd continually scratch her knees during that specific part of the song and just have blood running down her legs the whole concert, so now she wears kneepads so she can scrape her knees against the stage without cutting them.
Suggestion: react to regular peoples Coachella outfits!

"Motocore" is becoming trendy now, a lot of SS2022 looks had some elements of that in them (Dior comes to mind...not that it was done well in Dior mind you)
I thought they were chic and elegant in Foxy Brown's video for Hot Spot.
The knee pads are a practical choice more that a fashion one. She has gotten bloody knees from past performances. Leave it to Billie to make them hot!

This is the first year that I could not give a crap about who went to Coachella, I didn't even know it was this past weekend and this weekend coming until yesterday. I also do not know who 70% of the people are in this video. However, I will sit here and watch Luke roast everyone.
Literally this was probably the most boring Coachella ever. The only ppl I’ve seen do some kind of buzz on the internet was Megan and Doja. Other than that it really sucked. Did the Weekend and SHM even perform? I’ve feel like I’ve seen nobody talk about them
I agree, it all seemed so uneventful lol. Maybe it’s just me but it feels like it’s not as..relevant? As it used to be a couple years ago (-2015)

As an almost 33-year-old gay man I can officially say that I am out of touch with current fashion trends since it looks to me like 90% of these people got dressed after imbibing massive amounts of ayahuasca tea.

Nothing makes me feel older than watching 30 minutes of someone talking about celebrities I've never heard of wearing clothes inspired by clothes people were wearing when I was in middle school.

okay, I have to defend Anitta as a fellow brazilian. not from a fashion stand point, I don’t really love it either, *but* I was very proud of her using the colors of our flag in this way. our current president, a trump level douche I (and Anitta) hope to kick out of the office in the coming months, has essentially highjacked our flag to signify himself, his movement, and his voters, to the point that you might be uneasy by anyone simply wearing our soccer team shirt or displaying the flag on their car. but the flag and its colors belong to us, as a country, and I was really happy to see her do it, and take back power 🇧🇷
(from a fashion point, I might add that there is a very brazilian carnival feel to it, but I agree it needs some work)

i’ve seen some great looks from him like the first one featured here but looks 2 and 3 I thought were really bad
The colors of Anitta's outfits are the colors of the Brazilian flag, also, the feathers are a reference to carnaval, where costumes always have tons of feathers
(this year's carnaval was "moved" and it coincided with coachella)
I don't know who she is, but as soon as I saw her outfit the first thing that came to my mind was "carnaval". I'm not even Brazilian but the costumes are iconic and impossible to not recognize. I actually think she looked good, but then again, I disagreed with most of Luke's opinions lol.
I like the performers that seem to really think about how their outfit is going to elevate their performance like Billies knee pads added an interesting element while also being practical and helping her perform. Or Harry's coat created drama for his entrance and then his outfit underneath really catched the light and drew eyes to him and made his performance just fun to look at. I think a lot of the performers looked great but it's nice to see that extra bit of thought put into it. (I admittedly didn't watch everybody's performance so feel free to chime in with your favorites!)
If Luke played poker, his tell would be moving up and adjusting himself in his chair when he gets excited. I see it every time a look he likes comes on.

Anitta’s looks is definitely referencing Brazil, as she’s Brazilian. The colours are the Brazilian’s flag colours and the feathers seem to reference Carnaval, as there’s always feathers on the costumes that Brazilian dancers wear 🇧🇷💙💚💛
Out of all of the music fests, Coachella seems to attract more people who desperately want to be seen and don’t really care or know that much about the music. Also, I feel for the people who saw James Charles’ ensemble in person. Here’s to next weekend’s roast!
That’s because it’s the biggest festival so the biggest festival is gonna have a small amount of celebs who just wanna go and be there. There’s still hundreds of thousands of people that go for music
@@joeyn4607 It's more about influensers being paid to be there, it's basically like a job conference. Btw, Coachella is not the biggest festival, unless you're only referring to the US.

Yea, I think ppl really woke up due to the Pandemic and started to focus on the "important" things. Seems like those past serious years made everybody more critical and its almost looked down upon to care about such "superficial" things like Coachella. The backlash against ppl who flaunt their wealth and lifestyle has increased significantly. My prediction for the "After Pandemic Years" is, that people will spend more time in the moment, outside, with friends and Social Media usage will change drasticaly. Mostly towards news, artistic expression and memories. This might be the end of flex culture and the traditional influencer.
I think also cause they took kanye off the headliners weren’t all that this year

These reviews are always such a trip to me, I work at music festivals here in Australia and lemme tell you the fashion culture is WILDLY different, but also that's to be expected since the music festival culture is also just different, but I love that coachella is like pure day party in the city vibes as a opposed to "we've been here for 3 days and there's no showers but fuck it" would love to see you take in all the sorts of outfits I see when I'm working but also hey, I will actually send you pictures of the outfits the crew members and stuff wear if you wanna see working attire.

i see billies “reveal look” as a reference to punk art. They’re the clothes of someone who was up all night painting in their New York studio, making a mess. The colors feel almost like a renaissance painting. a pastoral scene. which is why i think you called the kneepads elegant and why i agree.
"Influencer" fashion, particularly LA-based influencer fashion, is just so horrid to me. No point of view. Just flashy, trendy, usually fast fashion. That's why so many of them are culturally irrelevant, despite having lots of followers.
Yea, they are essentialy just walking Billboards - No thoughts, head empty. They all look horrible. As someone, who is more so from the German Techno Festival Scene: Less can CERTAINLY be more sometimes.

They all want to just be the Kardashians, from the way they sound, talk, dress etc. The fashion was so tacky like Shien producing slightly better c!othes.
I don’t know why, but I’m always so underwhelmed by Harry Styles’ outfits. I want to love his looks, and I do like the clothes themselves, but it feels so Elton John in the 70s. And I loved Elton John’s looks, but he did it already, you know? Paying homage is nice sometimes, but it feels costumey, I think.
The best way to escape from James Charles is to ignore him.
I never learned how to make fashionable outfits and basically have stumbles into any nice looks I’ve made. I appreciate high fashion and really like learning about it, but Coachella looks always make me panic that all of this is supposed to be high fashion because I dislike so much. So glad I’m not the only one lol 😂
Ps. I am not a Charlie D’amilio fan, but I appreciate her dressing like a concert goer! You know, the whole point of the event lol

Ha, these Ottolinger bags have been produced in the ceramics studio I work in Greece. They also had heaps of weird cups and vases made that I thought were the ugliest things I have ever seen in my entire life. Now that I see their clothing, it all makes sense!

Harry’s outfit isn’t actually a jumpsuit, it’s a top + pants made to look like a jumpsuit. And there is a fun theory going around that he is meant to look like the Rainbow Fish- as a bridge from his last album and the music video for Adore You. In the Adore You music video, he wore a denim look that his whole band then wore at Coachella, and the videos centers around him setting a fish free back to the ocean to live freely, truly, etc.
It’s a fun connection in my opinion from his last album to setting himself more free with this time in his life (:

Natalia Fedner uses recycled silver I believe, and the chain is actually knitted. It’s a patented technique which is crazy to think there is still things that haven’t really been done. I love her brand!

CL made a return with her iconic group after 7 years and her post on twitter alone got 550k likes and trended #1 ww. just because you've never heard of them doesn't mean they're not popular. you just don't consume asian artists and that's fine, I just commented I'd like more asian representation and I'm entitled to that so.
also, their performances were really good! 100% recommend (the audio was kind of shit tho, but that's just coachella lmao nothing new)

I thought Doja was wearing Nusi Quero for the molded top as Chloe Bailey did on a magazine, not Ottolinger at first. You might've missed CL at Coachella wearing a biker jacket of sorts, Fully barbed/spiked swimsuit on top of a mesh catsuit. And her bandmates were wearing Supreme and Miu Miu onstage during the performance.
