The way I literally gasped when I saw Jodie Turner-Smith in the orange. What a strikingly beautiful woman and her dress is gorgeous. The denim is beautiful too. I've never seen denim look so classy.
Aside from Timothee's posture doing very little to sell his outfit, I feel like the pant/shirt combo may have looked better if the pants had committed to being a cinched, high-waisted pant. It is actually a high-waisted pant but it still somehow manages to look awkwardly short from the front because it doesn't really hug the hips and waist the way you expect them to. Of course it's tough to know if it isn't just Timothee's horrible slouch making the outfit look 10x worse. Maybe if he had stood straight, it would have pulled the clothes into the right places.
After looking at several pictures, the pants look considerably more cinched when he is not in that "soldier pose" (legs far apart). Also, the way the top is constructed heavily reduces the contrast between the width of his shoulders and the width of his waist - the way it bags on the sides visibly widens his waist, which makes it feel like the top ends lower in his torso than it actually does.
I almost always agree with your assessments of these looks, and I really like your informative comments about design history. However, I found myself really attracted to Gemma Chan's Louis Vuitton dress because of the difference in texture between the halter and the body of the dress, which mesmerized me. Something about the dress reminded me of paintings by Gustav Klimt with their contrast between paint and metallic elements.
I think the point was to reflect the colour of the floor on the bottom, to make it look like it was air there with flowers of her skin tone and some magical sparkle, which then turns into her as the outfit progresses upwards, finishing very crisply
Would you be able to do a video of what items the average person should have in their wardrobe? Staple pieces that we can afford and look classic and stylish in? I would LOVE that
I personally loved Timothee’s fit in its entirety, I feel like it was intentional to show his whole back and having a loose top paired with a structured pant balances the two IMO. However, I do agree that designers need to start pattern making for the body they’re designing for. Every body deserves to look it’s best and be complemented by the garment it’s clothed in
While I do love Timmy' halter moment I agree, there could have been more construction or tailoring at the back so that it didn't look so front-heavy and floppy. I thought of the halter vest worn under a suit having a low back with buttons to snatch his waist a bit but with a more feminine flourish.
Imagine a backless halter waistcoat in a stiff(ish) fabric with a tasteful floral print, no shirt underneath (the floral and backless being the feminine elements) and a pant in a colour that that appears in the floral print. A nice pair of boots (Timothée seems to like them) and perhaps jewelry with a more "feminine" feel (bracelet, necklace, and a nice pair of earrings). It's look so nice
Timitheé looks like he raided his sister’s closet and still expects an A+. I'm American and I immediately thought French when I saw Chris' look. Maybe because of the brass button I just read metro French chic vibes. I could see why you would think British though.
So my take on Timothee Chalamet’s look is that I love the direction and want to see more but I want more from the execution. The fully backless look just gave me shirtless vibes which just feels a bit cheap where backless should be giving sexy or elegant. I think that’s in part because he’s a man and shirtlessness isn’t scandalous for men in the way it is for women. I think you’re right that having more back covered would probably improve the look a lot. Still A+ for taking mens fashion somewhere interesting.
Timothèe's outfit was jaw dropping in my opinion! I usually agree that "feminine" garments sit awkwardly on masculine bodies, but not in this case. The tie in the front of the shirt is a bit grandma-ish, I think it takes away from the sexiness of the open back a little bit. Also really loved Cate Blanchett's jumpsuit. The flowers are really pretty and majestic. I kind of want this jumpsuit now. Harry Style's outfit was not the most exciting, but I liked it because the suit is in one of my favorite shades of blue and I'm a sucker for a dagger collar.
I don’t know that feminine garments sit awkwardly on masculine bodies, just that most men don’t know how to be selective with such garments to have them be flattering on their bodies. Omg thank you for saying that about how when men use "feminine styles" it's not fitted to their actually body structure, you put it in the best words possible
I thought Timothee Chalamet's Haider Ackermann ensemble was a jumpsuit! I agree, it needed a bit of tailoring to create more of the WOW factor! If the pants were a bit looser and the top a bit tighter...*chefs kiss* (we won't discuss the boots) Queens Jodie Turner-Smith and Tessa Thompson always bring the fashion and I am here for it!
I actually loved every look except Hilary 😅 When I saw Gemma's dress, I literally gasped! It's one of the most beautiful things I've seen! I actually loved that the dressed on it were close in color to the silver sequins bc it created this subtle transition that was breathtaking imo! Fantastic outfits all around!
When you say you wish an outfit was more "kooky crazy out there" could you maybe give some suggestions as to what they could have added to make it better? im always so curious what you mean by that.
Not to be a hater but I agree. I feel like 90% of these videos is him describing the outfit I'm looking at, then saying "I don't hate it", "I'm not mad at it", and "I wish it was more crazy". Lol
I love that you've mentioned that it bothers you that designers do garments designed for female body and just make it bigger and put is on a guy. In my opinion it's lazy. I'd love to see more looks that are traditionally made for females, but designed and cut for the male body. Like my partner borrows stuff from my closet and the size is fine, but it just simply don't fit him. I'd love him to be able to buy skirts and dresses in a regular shop just designed for men, so it fits well, is comfortable and it all starts with the high fashion brands.
I wish Gemma's LV dress was all built from that floral -- like if the top 2/3 of the dress were beaded instead of sequined, and done in a warmer tone -- and then those florals explode down from the hips and get larger toward the floor. That would be the fix there. And, there's no reason she did a mink-stole-shaped halter for a late summer event. It may be sleeveless, but its still SO heavy.
That halter mirror with flowers dress is pretty interesting, it's as if she magically manifested out of a blur of flowers of her skin tone (since the silver reflects the colour of the carpet, making it look as though there was only transparent air and flowers and sparkle that then morphs into her at the top, like a genie). I think you missed the point of the dress
Agree re: Timothee. I also think it would look better on him if he had better posture-- I think those halters look best on people who hold their shoulders a certain way
you captured exactly how I feel abt Timothee's look and how the back is just... completely //bare//! he obviously wore it with geuine good intentions to break gendered clothing stereotypes, but it feels a little bit like he is wearing a costume of a garment typically associated with women's clothing, rather than just wearing a nice fitted, tailored garment that happens to typically be associated with women's clothing. to me it becomes a bit costume-y bc the purpose of the outfit seems to be equally abt creating shock value over the fact that he's a dude in a piece of "women's clothes" as it is abt showing that backless tops shouldn't only be considered women's clothing. I would have preferred if he wore a more typical backless top, fitted and tailored to a masculine figure, instead of a deconstruction of a piece of women's clothes, bc the deconstruction of the back makes me feel like a guy can't actually wear the same clothes as a a woman (but fitted to him,, ofc)
Yes yes yes, completely agree, that backless top should have been constructed differently as to fit him. He could have looked so stunning whilst making the same statement
Love your description of stylization of male vs female body design/anatomy. I’ve been loving the expressive and daring choices of the men on this channel but have felt similarly about the fitting of the traditionally feminine garments. You crystallized it when saying we enjoy the riskiness of female or feminine fashion choices for men, but that also means those choices would benefit from an anatomical stance when being worn by men. It would be cooler, more thought out - instead of just taking a traditionally female piece and making it larger for a guy. Take the garment and construct with male anatomy in mind. Et Voilá. Love the view. Your humor and viewpoints are so enjoyable
I think the issue with Timothee Chalamet’s outfit was the fact that he hunches his shoulders over and doesn’t have the right posture to really support a backless look. Part of the intrigue is to show off definition of the shoulder blades, spine, and muscles in the back, but those don’t pop with his posture.
Thank you Luke for another great video! I really enjoyed, as always, listening to your comments. Hardy Styles' navy blue suit and light blue shirt looked amaaaaazining! This is a look I would totally wear even as a 60 year old women. I think it's timeless and has such an understated elegance.😘💙🌟
Florence’s look isn’t custom, it’s from the same collection as the shoe. Her stylist puts her in things meant for a taller person. But I always love Florence.
I feel like Palomo Spain is a brand that does understand how to change traditionally feminine patterns to tailor them properly for male bodies, it's a shame Timothée didn't go to them for the look.
I totally agree with the idea that when men shop from the women's lines or wear clothes that are typically worn by women they have to make sure it flatters their body. You can wear a summer dress like Kid Cudi did but it wont be flattering (although to be fair in this case he was paying homage to Kurt Cobain and Kurt Cobain intentionally wore a dress that was so flowery and OTT feminine to make a political statement about how everyone can wear whatever they want, so there's that...). Anyway, going back to tailoring to a different anatomy - totally agree which is why I'm surprised you wanted Timothee's outfit to have more on the back. I think they intentionally left so much open because a woman would not have worn a design like that. It was a top for a person who didnt care about side-boob or the chest showing. On top of that the front was all covered up and voluminous BECAUSE a women would not wear a halter neck like that. She'd show off her cleavage. So, yeah, I didnt understand how you felt this was too femme. Plus the volume in the top was well balanced by the fitted trousers. And the fitting of those trousers was amazing. From a purely aesthetic point of view, his ass has never looked better. He was striding all over the place like it was damned comfortable, too. Also, btw, the material of the jump suit is a custom made sequin fabric, not silk. (Haider's instagram story showed the details. It looks like it was gorgeous in person.)
You put the wrong pic of Harry Styles as best dressed! 😱 That blue suit so crisp. I always love your breakdowns of fashion things, makes me feel like I’m learning something every time
i absolutely fell in love with brosnahan's versace dress. i know it wasn't your favorite, but the silhouette and that ombre really just made me very happy to look at it.
I loved the originality of it, and the COLOR, especially because she is comfortable in her natural skin, not trying to spray herself another color, and the light pink matched perfectly.
Harry's looks for both movies premieres (this one in Venice and another one in TIFF) were all from Gucci's new capsule called HAHAHA which is Alessandro's and Harry's first names' letters. because Harry helped designing this collection. I know there's nothing exciting about a celebl slapping their name at some product but according to Alessandro, Harry was very much involved in the process and decision making. I'm wondering if this will be popular or not, it's cool imo and traditional enough for most men to wear it tbh, which is a bit weird considering some of Harry's fashion choices))
I think the trumpet skirt ruins the top part of that Armani Prive, should have been longer and covering her shoes, her proportions have simply been destroyed by it. Her red outfit with the hood was frickin' FANTASTIC

Yes same!!!
Not to be a hater but I agree. I feel like 90% of these videos is him describing the outfit I'm looking at, then saying "I don't hate it", "I'm not mad at it", and "I wish it was more crazy". Lol
From this moment on, shirt collars MUST only be measured and characterized by the metric of “dickiness”. Thank you.
It’s funny when I think red, white and blue I automatically think France. 🇫🇷
Same!
Re: the denim situation. This is one of those moments when you go "how no one thought of this earlier?"
Chris was going for a “Costal Grampa” aesthetic vibe to me 😂 i like it
“Is that your collar or are you just happy to see me?!” 🥵
😂😂😂
That gucci HAHAHA is actually the collab between Harry styles and Alessandro michele of gucci's
Did anyone else GASP when they saw Jodie Turner-Smith .
Yes. Literally took my breath. STUNNING
"I just, like, don't need Hilary Clinton in a caftan today." iconic
Jodie Turner-Smith, Tessa Thompson and Harry Styles KILLED IT!
Jodie Turner Smith in the Christopher John Rogers was by far the best look in my eyes. So stunning!
Jodie Turner Smith killed it, she's stunning in the painted dress
I LOVED timothee chalamet outfit it was different in a good way like a deconstructed suit we need more diversity in men's wear
Harry’s Gucci looks are actually his own line that he created with Alessandro called Gucci HA HA HA which aka H(arry) A(lessandro).
"the Italian version of Jazz hands" I'm dying
Timothee Chalamet literally looks like he’s dressed up as Mr. Tumnus from Narnia
Same 🙋🏿♀️ the suit jacket alone is mesmerising...
Luke you should review your viewers looks btw ? For the fun of it 😀😀
Yess, but he has to be honest lol
Like...my jogging pants and stained oversized t-shirt? 😃 I'm in.
Not sure my ego could take that 🤣
looking at olivia’s dress the only thing i can think is “big bird”
Chris looks like he is genuinely enjoying himself, both in the brown/cream ensemble and his 4th of July cruise ship steward cosplay. Wonderful!
Harry Styles' outfit looks like something from Elton John's wardrobe
I def got Elton John vibes from his look
I like that Harry's nail polish matches his shirt : )
Luke salivating over harry styles is a whole mood 😭😭
this is the first time I've seen and heard of Jodie Turner Smith and I wanna see and hear of her more, she looked gorgeous with both her looks 😍
Florence’s look isn’t custom, it’s from the same collection as the shoe. Her stylist puts her in things meant for a taller person. But I always love Florence.
She’s the perfect example of someone who is rarely ever dressed for their lines
@@alfie6441 Spot on observation. I adore those shoes but NOT with that gown, on her frame.
I feel like Palomo Spain is a brand that does understand how to change traditionally feminine patterns to tailor them properly for male bodies, it's a shame Timothée didn't go to them for the look.
Florence Pugh looked stunning she was the only one I saw on social media who I was like my jaw dropped!
Please do a series of fashion master classes. You’re so entertaining and educational.
I love the harry suit look so much too his waist, whole body looked so snatched. Beautiful!!
that blue suit on Harry is a lesson on how a suit should fit a man its amazing and that shirt ,chef kiss
"Harry styles is that your collar or are you just happy to see me"
u poor thing, most folks raved about and loved his boldness of the red hot ensemble...
That Atelier Versace look worn by Rachel Brosnahan (23:53) is actually from Fall 2018 Couture.
thank you!!!!!
You put the wrong pic of Harry Styles as best dressed! 😱 That blue suit so crisp. I always love your breakdowns of fashion things, makes me feel like I’m learning something every time
Olivia Wilde as Big Bird? Can't stand her. Excited for this video as always!!
Those feathers also reminded me of Sesame Street 😊. The dress seems like Big Bird went to a 1920s Hollywood themed party.
@@BoitumeloMalatji and didn’t take a bath!
@@pNo415 😂😂 oh shame.
With the long blonde hair, Chris looks like a poor man’s Brad Pitt.
Loved the Harry Styles blue suit. Great video, as always.
I think for Timothee's figure, straight leg pants always look best on him so I can't knock him for that. Ugh, the man looks fire. 🔥
yeah.... but......not having a back was the whole point of Timothee's outfit!!
I didn’t think Olivia’s dress looked that garishly yellow in the video footage of the red carpet. 🤔
Love backless clothes for men!!! It was about time!!!!
Timothée’s outfit was everything and more for me.
Really? Why?
@@pinkimietz3243 Because I loved the outfit.
@@iloveyouuuu135 You're very good in articulating your reasoning. Very smart.
I liked it; it was giving sexy, but I think the front could have had a better design plus the scarf took away the sleek factor for me.
Yaas!
The playful relaxed pussy bow, the tight pant and masculine boot
Deliciousness
Youth and beauty!
I could listen to you thirst for Harry Styles' collar all day
‘Shes wearing a kaftan … I have no idea why’ come for the fashion, stay for the commentary!❤️
Harry’s collection with Gucci HaHaHa is awesome! I think Hillary’s outfit is from Walmart!
The red pants is more French in my mind 🤔 That whole ensemble strikes me as French Revolution
i absolutely fell in love with brosnahan's versace dress. i know it wasn't your favorite, but the silhouette and that ombre really just made me very happy to look at it.
Tailor looks fantastic in that green dress!!! 😍😍😍
Harry styles (and the men in general) did a really good job this time around
the halter almost just looks like a scarf that he tucked in to his pants. It looks less intentional and more sloppy.
I loooooove cate blanchett’s look! 🌸🌺🌼🌻
I think the trumpet skirt ruins the top part of that Armani Prive, should have been longer and covering her shoes, her proportions have simply been destroyed by it. Her red outfit with the hood was frickin' FANTASTIC
I thought the shoes were the problem with the trumpet skirt. The ankle strap totally cut off the line of her leg.
Hey, what do you think about these video topic ideas: re-styling bad outfit moments, reacting to MV Outfits and what you would like to see more vs what should be banned in fashion :))
We need to appreciate Luke’s spit reference for Harry’s outfit more.
Dude, the Tessa Thompson red look? She's ensconced in the red carpet!
Harry looks soooo goood
Florence dress looks like a clear night sky with lots of twinkling stars. I love it.
Anyway, the dress reminds me of teuta matoshi dress not Valentino 😌
