I choose miniskirts made of thicker fabric for more structure. And I wear it with thick black tights in autumn and winter, usually paired with a turtleneck sweater and equestrian boots or chelseas. I go for either plain dark colour (black, grey, navy) or minimalist pattern when choosing skirts. This all helps make the mini look more serious and classy. In summer I can wear mini dresses when it's hot and it makes sense. But with a looser straight or A shape. And flats. Everything else is kept modest to compensate for the shortness of the dress/skirt. Same with makeup (minimal) and hair (tight ponytail/sleek look) So yes, minis can be classy. Jacky Kennedy was a great example!
i got lucky and got 3 tennis skirts secondhand^^ the clue is that they have built in shorts underneath and it makes me more comfotable when wearing minis.
I always feel iffy in miniskirts if I'm not also wearing some type of safety shorts underneath. I enjoy wearing miniskirts for the aesthetic, but for practical reasons I'd rather avoid it, or just wear shorts or skorts. 1. Is it just me who's worried about hygiene issues when sitting in a miniskirt? Especially when the chair is directly touching my undies under the short skirt. 2. I'm worried that some creep might try to film me upskirt when I'm standing. 3. If the fabric is too soft/flouncy/flimsy, it's more likely to get blown up in the wind. I'll never forget that Marylyn Monroe moment I accidentally pulled one time in public. It wasn't even a miniskirt, it was knee length. Now I have a minitrauma associated with flimsy skirts.
same sis! but add to that people standing at the bottom of stairs whilst you are walking up (for example department stores or train stations) can nearly see up it, depending on the skirt. Honestly I have too many other things to worry about and want my life to be easier so just wear pants 🤷🏼♀️ edited to add: also don't love my bare skin touching/sticking to the seats in public spaces. yuck!
I have these same concerns I was expecting her to mention them. This is why I only wear a denim black skirt with some shorts underneath. Otherwise like you I much prefer to wear shorts and have recently discovered skorts that look like skirts all the way around and not just the front.
I feel you. I have quite full hips and a big butt and I'm seriously worried about showing my cheeks to the public in a gust of wind but also because tighter minis tend to ride up. But most of all I'm worried about creeps, men just seem to think womens' behinds are public domain.
I got myself avoiding mini skirts because of my wide hips and thick legs, and that's sad, like I wasn't allowed to use it, it would look ugly. But now I'm building my self esteem and using it with those style tips to not divide the silhouette. And the rocker style is definitely the one I like. 🖤

i’m in my mid twenties, which is supposed to be the “right” age to be wearing minis but i think i’ve phased out of them personally or the minis on trend right now just don’t fit my body type. i now prefer midi/pencil skirts
Quality of attention: EXACTLY! I want to be seen as well put, classy even if I am wearing a mini. I don’t look good on tight ones (the struggles of being soft natural) but A cut Minis work great and very classy. Also I don’t use them unless my legs are in great shape, it helps with a mini looking classy, feminine and not vulgar or frumpy.
I love mini skirts, I think they’re the best skirt length for my body type. To me it’s important that they’re high waisted and not too short, more of the 70s length maybe. And I prefer to wear classic looking A-line styles made of a thicker fabric as they look classy and elegant, especially when paired with a nice silk blouse. I always make sure to not show any cleavage when wearing short skirts and for casual outfits I love styling them with an oversized T-shirt tucked into them. That way even tight mini skirts or those with a slit can look more cute or cool rather than vulgar.
Pleated micro-mini skirts were really popular in the mid-2000s, especially from late 2002- early 2006. They were generally part of the layered look that was popular then. I think it was a reaction to the more unisex-looking and baggy sportswear-inspired clothes of the 1997-2001 era. I was an adolescent around this time, and I noticed that girls went from wearing baggy t-shirts/polos/sweatshirts and cargo pants/track pants and trying to blend in the with the guys, to suddenly wearing lip gloss and getting streaks in their hair and making an effort to follow style trends in magazines. I thought the layered look was really cute, and it definitely wasn't too revealing, considering most girls wore leggings under the skirts, and would wear 2-3 layers on top. Usually a very long camisole, a tank-top or long-sleeved t-shirt over that, and a very short open denim or bomber-style jacket on top. The big loop earrings did come into play, but not until around late 03 into 04. Subculture looks also became popular, whereas prior to that, the only other acceptable look was a generally urban one. By 2002, there were punk and goth girls around again, skaters, the beginnings of emo by 2004. To this day I still think the layered look with bangles and sleek hair is a really good look for adolescent girls. I find teenagers these days try too hard to appear grown-up with a lot of makeup and sophisticated looks. The fun is sorta gone. I never got a "provocative" vibe from mini skirts used in this context. In fact, the girls after guys' attention would be the type to wear tracksuits with vulgar slogans, rather than the ones in micro skirts. I think for some girls, the reason for wearing fashionable clothes is nothing to do with the opposite sex, but just to feel free and confident. They're allowed to enjoy looking good without trying to impress a guy. I do agree with some of the other commenters that really short pleated shirts probably do suit a svelte or adolescent body-type more. I guess it would be harder to pull off if you were on the voluptuous side.
I noticed mini skirts look better on me when I lose weight and my legs are slimmer and hips aren't as full anymore. They look nice and pretty, a little flirty but not sexual. And not as many men stare at me in the streets, and if they do it's not that disgusting stare that makes you feel uncomfortable. These stuff feel very nice but also can't believe how different everyone around you will treat you based on your body.
I love mini skirts, even tho I am overweight and a soft dramatic. Maybe it gets attention from creeps, but no article of clothing has stopped me from getting creeped on. A winter coat? No. My work uniform? No. My nasty, sweaty, frumpy and loose-fitting workout clothes? No. I've stopped letting it bother me too much, because no matter what a woman does, predatory men will be nasty towards us. I've realized that that is their problem and not mine. I feel very confident when I wear a mini skirt, because it makes my legs look long and is nice on warm days. High-waisted is the way to go.
I could've almost written this myself, when you're a soft dramatic it seems almost impossible to avoid attention which as a mostly introverted person bothers me but I'm working on it. The best creep-deterring thing I've found is confidence, even if that also increases the amount of attention from normal people I find it to be a good trade. I agree a mini or even micro, especially extra high waist and tailored is very flattering on SD/our lines as is below the knee dresses and longer. I've found that the length between knee and mini is a complete no-go, extremely unflattering both for individual parts like the legs and waist but also for the whole head to toe proportions.
That was fun and entertaining like mini skirts themselves . I always thought they were just for prepubescents with toothpick legs but your idea for wider ones for more womanly proportions seems like it might work !
Funny, I find mini skirts the easiest to style! I own more than ten of them and wear them more than 90% of time. I prefer them high waisted, from thicker fabrics and with an A line silouette. As a classic body type, I find they perfectly define the waist without complicating the outfit
I have rules for myself. I absolutely love mini skirts. I have been wearing them since high school. I am a 33 year old Flamboyant Natural and I find them so comfortable. My rules. ▪️ Never wear high heels with mini skirts (I wear skate shoes). ▪️ Never wear singlets with mini skirts (I wear over sized t-shirts or long sleeved tops). ▪️Never wear lipstick when wearing a mini skirt. I also usually wear a baseball cap and swimmers underneath (only because the thicker swimmer fabric makes me feel more secure and safe). I feel like Aly was so spot on with what she was saying. I was nodding my head all the way through the video.
This is interesting to me as a 32 year old Flamboyant Natural who hasn't worn miniskirts in a while because I didn't feel like it'd fit my vibe any more so much. 😅 oversized Shirts might be the way in summer.
I have very (almost freakishly) long, scrawny legs but I love miniskirts. I find that balancing all the showing skin by wearing a long sleeve, high-neck blouse and maybe even some ankle boots to cut that vertical line off a bit helps. Even better when I have a cardigan or blazer that is as long as, if not longer than, the hem of the skirt. I personally feel more comfortable saving the revealing stuff if it’s just my husband and I anyway. Lol But thanks for the insight! I used to get so confused by skirts because I felt like I was nearly naked out in public, lol. I just thought I had no other option for staying cool in the desert heat. I’d look in the mirror and always felt like I looked *good* in my summer skirts and cropped tank tops, but never felt particularly *comfortable* leaving the house in those outfits. I felt like people were treating me differently. Sometimes good-different, sometimes bad-different. Regardless, I didn’t like being treated with such intense administration based off of only the superficial - and the same goes for being treated with serious hostility over only my appearance... I wish I were one of those girls who were thick skinned enough to shake it off and not care what others think, but I’m just not. I sometimes struggle to know the difference between people who genuinely like you and want to *know you* versus people who just want to sexualize you and then dislike you once they notice there’s actually a very imperfect and complex person underneath whatever fantasy they had in their head. That’s just my weakness, I can’t easily tell the two apart and it’s caused some heartache in the past. That’s just my weakness, and I’m okay with accepting that. But to save myself some trouble, I find it easier to just play it safe and try not to attract that kind of attention where it’s easily avoidable.
For me, the time for mini’s has come, and gone. I always felt very vulnerable wearing them, and didn’t really feel comfortable. Great ideas for outfits, though!
I was a teen during the 2000s and remember the denim mini quite well. While the "hot girls" wore it alone, most of us paired it with black leggings because the skirt was so short. Later I had a couple of corduroy and tweed minis that I wore with tights and boots during winter. I'm 35 and still like to wear minis, but don't do it as much because of catcalling, not my age or size.
I prefer knee-length, straight-cut/a-line, heavy fabrics (tweed/denim/pure wool or linen, leather). I always wear androgenous shoes (brogues/classy sneakers, ballets). Usually always a crew neck tee/long silk/cotton blouse/boxy sweater or boyfriend blazer. I guess I love that preppy/classic style. It's always very chic since 18-40 I have worn that look lol. I also like wearing opaque black tights in winter or bare oiled up legs/copper-bronze/rose-gold high gloss hosiery (pantyhose) in summer.
I'm young and I'm a soft classic, I love wearing mini dresses and skirt as i find pants to be uncomfortable. I feel like longer skirt look weird if i'm not wearing heels wich I don't want to do most of the times
I would be interested in seeing a video about skirt lenght on different body types if you haven't done it already. I love midi skirts but they always look weird on my body type so i usually go for mini or maxi skirts. Also i love the high boots and mini skirt combo but usually I pair it with black opaque stockings and baggy or long jackets and it does look vulgar at all.
I had more mini skirts as a child, as they're easy to move around in, and cool in summer. now I have more midi/maxi skirts in a thin fabric for summer. I wear short shorts now because I don't want to deal with trying not to flash everyone
So interesting that you found those different style categories for miniskirts! I used to wear miniskirts in a Rock style a lot, might pick it up again after seeing this. :)
I mostly feel uncomfortable wearing miniskirts without leggings underneath. The only ones I sometimes wear in summer almost reach my knees and/or are made of thicker fabric like denim. In a windy city like the one I live in, wearing light short skirts would be risky.
Great tips on styling mini skirts! I remember when micro minis came with matching briefs/panties! Sigh!...my long ago by gone “hot pants” days (the precursor to Daisy Dukes)!☹️😳🙄😜
Looking back on the 2000s fashion, it was terrible! Rihanna and Paris looked so awful. That whole aesthetic of low slung jeans and low denim skirt that revealed hip bones needs to stay in the past. A contender for worst fashions ever.
Largely disagree. Chonky girls and the neigh-skeletal, probably not, but anyone in between? Hip huggers are sexy as hell. It's this nipple-high waistline that needs to go.
I really like the tips, but recently your videos have been to judgmental on women's attitudes. It's just not nice, even if I'm not one of these women, I still just wanna know about fashion
I wear mini skirts when it's too hot outside 😅 and I want to be more feminine compared to wearing shorts. But I never have conpatible shoes! Maybe can you do a video about this: how to stlye skirts eith the tight shoe! And I also prefer a bodycon type skirt, because I feel like that won't fly away. But I also hate to sit down anywhere in public. I find it super cute and stylish with tights and ankle boots, though I never have the right shoes, and i can't deal with the cold. So I just admire other people.
It definitely can be depending on the style, shape, fabric thickness and the overall look. With opaque black tights for winter and autumn, classic turtleneck sweater or a cardigan, it is far from Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. 😄🙂
@@Berlinerundso I do judge, and so do you and everyone else depending on other peoples looks. If you think otherwise, you are being a hypocrite. The question is: how do you want to be judged?
@@papyrus88 When I notice that my brain judges, which it does, I consciously question that thought and overthink why I am being prejudiced and try to be neutral. While you purposely wrote such comment, meaning you didn't even have that line of thought and felt the need to publicly make this statement. That is not elegant and, again, doesn't show of a character with much integrity. It is pretty ironic. I'm wondering what inner frustration towards your own relationship with clothes or society you have. Or why you feel the need to be so condescending over a piece of clothing? Strange to me.
It's s simple for me - are you over 30? Is your weight more than it's healthy for your height? Then - NO, but since we live in times of bodypositivity, everybody is free to wear what he/she/it wants 😜
Well, it depends how it's styled, if you're skinny i think it's easier but if you look at the pictures of plus size women (min 1:30), expecially in the one in the centre you can see that it can still be elegant in plus size, even though I admit it can be more difficult to style
Some women over their 30s are absolutely gorgeous. The only example that can speak to everyone are celebs but they are women like that in the real world. I think it is about being at a weight where it doesn't mess up your proportions. The mini skirt even for me being 95 pounds is hard to style because I'm short. It cuts me off weirdly. I also think that you can find a miniskirt that fits your proportion at any weight but it's just harder to find.
You look very beautiful in this video, I love the color palette!

I love your makeup in this video
Well informed video!! Thank you 😊
Mini skirts are 1000 times better for girls than jeans!!!
Could you do wedding dress for body types, please ? 🥰
I love the look of mini skirts and I actually like my long legs but being 6'2 I feel like they don't do me any favors proportion-wise
"Quality of attention" I love that
mini skirts?? no micro skirts?? YESS
What about Soft Dramatics and mini skirts? opinions anyone ???
I'm a soft dramatic, and I loooove miniskirts. It's just a fun item to wear.
Thank You Aly.
You look so gorgeous, and I loveeeee the monochrome look.😍🤍
Aly, your hair color just looks fabulous 💯
Aly, are you wearing lenses? I started wearing them recently and I wonder if I can apply makeup on my warerline
I live in a conservative country but its you so I watch😂
Your accent is changing nicely 👍
Thank you Aly, I'm new to your channel and like to learn all these things 🙂
It would be nice if you could mention how kibbe romantics could wear them best
I was so excited I thought it was downloaded 😂
I love your makeup!
I learn so much from you Aly! Thank you ! 🙏🏼😄
I love your new earrings 😍
Mini skirts reminds me of Ally McBeal.
😂😂😂
I really like the tips, but recently your videos have been to judgmental on women's attitudes. It's just not nice, even if I'm not one of these women, I still just wanna know about fashion
Do you ever do body typing for your viewers?
Freddy my love on UA-cam is a great example for mini skirts.
Yes I want men’s attention just not when it gets creepy
I wear mini skirts when it's too hot outside 😅 and I want to be more feminine compared to wearing shorts. But I never have conpatible shoes! Maybe can you do a video about this: how to stlye skirts eith the tight shoe!
And I also prefer a bodycon type skirt, because I feel like that won't fly away. But I also hate to sit down anywhere in public.
I find it super cute and stylish with tights and ankle boots, though I never have the right shoes, and i can't deal with the cold. So I just admire other people.
how is that influencer / model at 8:33 on the very left? love her style!
Emily Alyn Lind. I didn't know her either, I just took a screenshot and searched with Google Lens
Well She is an actress! intresting how we assume what well dressed people work with😁
No no not for me 😅
Only like them on skinny legs
Please do clothes for hijabi girls with different body type.
I’m 32 and never in my life wore a mini skirt, and never really wanted to.
I'm pear shaped- absolutely not :')
That's when it looks the hottest!
Nope!! Dont like my knees .
the skirt on the thumbnail is one i'm dreaming about
With my thick ass thighs and short legs .....yeah no, its not for me
Conservative
Being a young conservative woman, I would never wear a miniskirt. It's not a piece of cloth for a mature woman with integrity.
It definitely can be depending on the style, shape, fabric thickness and the overall look. With opaque black tights for winter and autumn, classic turtleneck sweater or a cardigan, it is far from Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. 😄🙂
I think as a conservative woman you should have some respect and not judge other women. That‘s not what a mature women with integrity does.
@@Berlinerundso I do judge, and so do you and everyone else depending on other peoples looks. If you think otherwise, you are being a hypocrite. The question is: how do you want to be judged?
ewwwww
Could not roll my eyes harder at this statement but ok lol
I'm 37, 170 lbs and 37/29/44
I look hella good in mini skirts and there ain't nothing your rules can do about it
Some women over their 30s are absolutely gorgeous.
I don’t wear minis unless I am in good shape
