Store my tobacco the same way with ball jars! Did not know that the small round 1.76oz tins would stay in good shape for up to 2 months. Have been putting them in jars too. Thanks for the great information, and keep up the great videos. 😂
Yes John but although it can keep fresh in non vacuumed tin for a while it starts to dry out albeit slowly over 2 months so it is better to store the tobacco in a mason jar immediately so you keep the freshness of leaf in optimal condition
Enjoyed this video and watched from start to finish because I didn’t want to miss one bit because tobacco costs enough as it is and any tip new or old is always welcome. Enjoy your evening and the weekend.
@PiperX1X. Thank you. I am happy it was beneficial to you, as you are quite right tobacco is expensive and the fact that you can keep it fresh & improving for any length of time is certainly an advantage. Enjoy your weekend as well.
A wonderful and detailed presentation. I hear, though have not experienced, that vacuum sealed square tins can loose their seal over time. So to be safe I move my tobacco that comes in square tins into Mason jars form cellaring. I understand McBarron is switching to round tins for that reason. Again, splendid presentation !!! Yeah!!!
My dear Nathan this video is very useful especially for those who are new to pipe smoking. I noticed the Mac Baren HH Rustica that you mentioned you experienced a nic hit i so agree with you on that, it is indeed one of the most robust blend that i do enjoy after dinner. I hope you review that wonderful blend that i will fill my bowl with the same while watching you smoking it that would be awesome. Enjoy your weekend with your family. Regards. Daniel
Thanks Nathan - interesting presentation on storage, ageing and vessel choice - I more or less follow the exact procedure as you in dealing with purchased tobacco. Being new to pipe smoking and as a person of a certain age I am stocking from ground zero so to speak. Therefore long-term ageing is at best for me likely to be just 3-5 years, bit off topic, but let me explain: I’m very conscious that one can get caught up in purchasing too much tobacco to the extent that chances are you will never get round to enjoying it all. Therefore I’ve calculated how much tobacco I am likely to need for the next 15 years and purchased accordingly based on my current weekly use. Thankfully, I have a found a good number of blends which I very much enjoy and have concentrated on cellaring those rather than a ‘spray and pray’ purchase approach. I am very close to reaching that life stock and once reached I shall stop buying and start enjoying :) Thanks again for the inspiration and enjoyable content. All the best
Thank you Mark.Reading your comment I fully agree with your down to earth & realistic approach. I particularly liked your phrase “spray & pray” 😄I personally very much enjoy exploring different brands and variety of tobacco blends so I have a selection to choose from pending on my mood / wether /time of day😊 I do wish you long life to enjoy all your blends in good health.
Thank you Richard. Heads up, my review on your delicious Mountain Mix will be published on the channel probably on Tuesday. It is a tasty tobacco indeed.
Hi Nathan love your reviews so much here Iam watching your pipe channel maybe a silly question as you have many fine tobaccos have you ever been tempted to try making your own naturally extracted vape juice 😊I’ve enjoyed this review 🙏all the best nathan
Thanks Gary. As for your question, one needs to know what they are doing when it comes to naturally extracted tobacco liquids. I rather buy them from professionals who have years of experience & knowledge, then wasting my time & effort trying something that is not within my skill set.
What works for cigars does not work for pipe tobacco. Cigars need a set humidity level & temperature to keep fresh. Pipe tobacco does not need extra humidity as it is moist already it need to be kept completely airtight to keep it’s moisture not increasing it, that would mould the tobacco leaves.
You basically covered the subject of Cellaring tobacco Nathan👍 mind you i actually do store my sealed tobacco tins & mason jars in my basement 😁 I find aromatic blend also improve by aging perhaps as you mentioned not as noticeable as non aromatics. Btw i noticed you showed the Salty Dogs which is one of the tastiest vaper's that i have large stock of, i can't wait for your view on this one. As for blend labels on my mason jars i search on google for the cellar label i need, copy & paste to a word document as a .jpg & change the size to 6.45 cm (2.54 inch) and insert it to my chosen circular shape from the layout options & print then you just cut all round for a perfect circular tin label to stick with a washable school glue on a wide mouth mason jar lid. looks amazing. If you want i can email you the full process, maybe you can record a video on the subject. Have a nice weekend
Thanks Gary. Yes please do email me your procedure on printing tin labels for mason jar lids. I kinda got it by reading your comment but just to be sure😊 thanks 🙏 As for the Salty Dogs I agree it is an excellent VaPer blend that I will review at some point.
Totally agree Gary, Salty Dogs is an awesome VaPer which I've stocked up on. Can't wait for Nathan's review. DTM's St Bernard is also highly recommended, but I am sure you are very much aware of that blend already.
@@Godard92 Yes mark i too enjoy the excellent vaper Dan St Bernard that i know Nathan has got a few of those as well based on your recommendation. Btw i hope his review of the HUT Haymaker will be shown soon that i too recommended to him and he told me that you already mentioned it 😂

Thanks David for your important point concerning square tins that I & other viewers surely appreciate.
Thank you for your videos this is great information to have
My pleasure
For long-term storage, I put in an oxygen absorber. I read somewhere that it’s best to age tobacco in an anaerobic fashion.
That is interesting John🤔

Ditto Nathan!
👍👍 Agreed. Now, I tend to buy 2 oz. bags of tobacco from Boswells, then put the leaf in wide mouth Mason jars for storage. Seems to work well.
Thanks John for your feedback. I would have loved to be able to just buy from Boswells without worrying how I get it😀
@@TheVapingPiper 😄 yes, I live on the "easy" side of the pond!

I store my cigars in an airtight tupperdor with 62% boveda humidity packs. Would the same thing work for pipe tobbaco?
