I’m an aspiring film composer and I can’t even begin to express how much your music and these videos have meant to me and inspired me. Thank you for who you are and what you do.
Tom: “There’s no film that’s 4 hours long”
Also Tom: *scores a film that’s 4 hours long”
I would love to see the process during the first writing of a cue, that would be awesome! It would be neat to see the creative process with the chord types and progressions chosen for certain moods etc.
me too I would love to see the process during 1st writing

Junkie XL Tom what libraries are best for symphonies. Vienna symphonic libraries or something else.?
Hey junkies how you get this Modulation , cann you show case how you handel transiscion . Nice work thx
Thank you, Tom, for taking time and doing these series. Could you please share the workflow, especially after taking days and creating such a wonderful action cue and when there is a new film edit(no EDL, OMF being shared by the Edit Team or the Production Studio). How to do still manage to keep or retain all the tiny little details and nuances that are being sculpted. Thanks again :)
Hi Tom, thanks for this, it's great!! One question, having around 4 hours of music, does that mean it's not scored directly to picture? How does this usually work, will an editor cut it into picture afterwards, or are you expected to do that (or someone on your team)? Thanks, cheers!
Hey Junkie, how to start my career in Germany ?
One word comes up to my mind: TALENT
4:36 “there’s no film that’s four hours long”
*Hamlet and return of the king extended edition look at each other nervously*
Dancing with Wolves extended. 4.5 hours long if i remember correctly
Love Exposure, the "short" version...
@@StarshipTrooper4231 Only one I'll watch. I love the main theme, too!
@@StarshipTrooper4231 I'm pretty sure it's just a few minutes shy of 4 hours.
The Snydercut 😂
Wow! That cue is amazing, all the thematic material woven into it is so well done. Thank you for sharing this!
I wondered about that difficult violin/horn figure that you highlighted. To hear the violins nail that line but then the horns too was unbelievable.
I know the calibre of musicians you get to work with is A class complimenting your writing talent. Do you worry about over stepping what is possible for an instrument when you have to mock up your ideas for the director and producers?
I would love to hear more about your experiences on this topic as I worry a lot about giving sampled concepts of parts to musicians to play and record.
I've been watching since your mad max videos way back when :) absolutely love the fact that you take the time to share all of this with us. So thank you Sir :) keep up the good work
Thanks Tom for doing these tutorials, they are all very insightful and helpful.
This is one of my favorite episode, sooo relevant: I think one of the most most difficult skill to have in film scoring, is knowing how to put everything together in the way you Tom are talking about, one of those skill you acquire late in your career. I'd love for you to talk more about this if you can!
Awesome video Tom! I love this series. Just a quick one, it would be great if you could break down the entire Orchestration of big action cues like this... Like really dive into what the individual sections are playing and how its all woven together. Other than that though, its perfect!
Incredible composing Tom. 1. Are you human? 2. How long does it take you to compose a piece like this?
Most likely yes he is human..
@@antonisfakiris505 Bold of you to assume that
HAHA
I think Tom is a mutant with incredible brain+great musical talent😂🔥
Tom so good to see you truly enjoying this one. Your facial expression at 15:16 is exactly what I'm hoping to feel towards my own music someday!
This is really a cool theme. Love that groove. Brilliant!
Awesome tutorial! Thanks and happy new year🎆
Amazing music, fantastic videos! Thank you, Tom!
Absolutely fantastic! Bravo! Gave me chills.
How many of you would love to see the midi of this?! Amazing job Tom you're an incredible inspiration! Thank you!
Thank you Tom!! That's a lot of really great information. I never saw ou reed anything like what you are doing. It's a complete and real world course on film scoring.
Really loving everything you are doing with your UA-cam channel.
One again - I'm so thankful for you taking the time to share all this amazing knowledge with us youtube students! :)
Great info thanks for sharing. I'd really like to know how you conform music to picture edits in Cubase and what tips/techniques you have to achieve this.
Indeed, is incredible composition!!! And is a great lesson for all of us beginners or non!!
Thank you so much for the knowledge you share.
Hi Tom. Just wanted to say that even though the movie might not have performed as we hoped, it is still a fantastic score and I am really glad you are sharing all of this with us. Thanks a bunch!!
Nice writing! Everything seems to work quite well !!
I really love how you hide the reference to the James Horner's danger theme!
Love this and you, you're amazing.
Thanks.
Your compositions are getting so insane, Tom. Much respect for all the advice you share on here. I just arrived to LA 3 weeks ago to score media. Hope our paths cross one day!
One of my favorite channels on youtube :)
4 hours of music recorded?! You’re a beast!!!!
Thanks Tom.
I would very much be interested in what motivates/ inspires your ideas for the 'filling in' types of sequences, like the fast strings and horns in the early section in this video, which was hard for the players to play (not that a part needs to be difficult). For me I can somewhat come up with a basic idea, but the extra ear candy bits is where I have no ideas. Thanks again!
4:36 "There's no film that's four hours long"
Writes the music to Justice League 2 years later
Junkie is obviously secure with himself and not afraid of competition...
Question: Do you ever listen back on past work and cringe?
What a great guy
Hi tom.. Your videos are gold. Any chance of an episode how to make proper recordings.. Thanks very mutch
Absolute Brilliant Music. Watching it for the third time. :-D
AWESOME MUSIC ! thx for lesson
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge in your videos! How do you know how long the cue needs to be? Does the studio give you a checklist beforehand listing out how many cues they need and what type? Do you compose to what's going on onscreen or a story board or something?
Amazing!!!
HI Tom
its all awesome but do you think you could do a tutorial on how exactly you program violin runs and all the rest. What time signature 16th or 32 notes stuff like that.
Would you go into these a little deeper ?
a very not easy to play compose and score.i like it very much Junkie
hopefully sometime soon you will be commisioned to write using your electronic skills this composing is great but same same in many ways be cool to hear you express your old skool rave vibes.
Tom you have more gear than Deadmau5.
C Dorma only things missing are the Neve Console and Atmos system.
I would love to seem a 15 min ‘write with me ‘ kind of thing in studio time at some point- i would love to see your workflow whilst actually writing something.
You are awesome!!
5:50 love those soft brass chords
Thanks for that!could you talk about the orchestration? thanks
Cool riff on the strings in the beginning of the cue, Tom! This cue really jumps back and forth between many meter changes though keeping the triplet rhythmic motif in there almost throughout. Was that because you had to match and hit the events happening in the picture?
Absolutely love your work! Where are you based? I would love to take you out on lunch and learn from you.
i always ask me, what keycommand is this when he marked the events, than the tracks are in solo!? could someone figured it out? thanks!
Is here (movie music) classic line as in music: composing - mixing - mastering?
Hi Tom! How you create a music score for the orchestra?
This is so good! I really wanna learn the idea on how flute swing offs wwwwwooowwwww or harp up and down effects in film for example: The football kicks up in the air then the harp plays up and down dddwwwwweeeeeeeelllllllll
I am a super big fan of yours........whats the tablet/touch screen brand DELL?? is it running metagrid?? THANKS!!!!!
I would love an in depth harmonic and orchestration analysis for one of your cues. How you take the initial theme and work out which chords sit underneath it, or the other way around, then how you choose which instruments to use to play those notes, how you balance movement, stereo imaging, texture and so on. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing
🍸🍸 🍷Happy New Year 2019🍷🍸🍸

Tom, Tis weer een geweldige video die je maakt👍 gebruik je naast al die oude meuk ook nieuwe? Zoals IK multimedia Uno-synth?
Great stuff. So the left and right channels in this video are swapped, yes?
Right? Felt so confusing for a second haha...
There are musicians, then there is Tom.
Apart from the London theme, which is just too close to the original 'inspiration' for me (I suspect the Producers pushed for this) I think this is by far your best work in film to date Tom.
there some notes in the beginning that are similar of one ennio morricones western theme.... 🤔😉
Great tutorial as usual!
There's only one thing that's not totally clear to me (probably due to my lack in English), and is the part at the end of the score in which several themes come crossing each other.
Are you following exactly what's happening on the screen?
I mean, in such scenes the video editing is very tight and the characters succeed in a very fast way. Are you hitting with the music the exact points of the video in which the character changes or what?
I've already seen the movie and in these kind of scenes it would probably be ideal to follow the music along with the images!
Thank you very much!!!
mV
Another way to expose my question in a few words could be:
How do you sketch a scene like this?
What movie is this? What movie is this cue from?
MODEL OF THE TOUCH MONITOR HE USES _ I SEE ITS A DELL BUT I CANT FIND IT..PLEASE
What Native Instrument Ccontoller are you using
It's the Komplete Kontrol S88 Mk I
Is a better audio interface or better computer more important for reducing latency?
Use the asio driver, it helps a lot to reduce latency
Well. I know tom is just on film scores now, but it woul be cool if he did a throwback video about the eletronic/house music from the 2000s haha. Like not just comments but full analisys like thoso of film scores.
He does that as well. Just look through the other videos
@@crossrootsdoc really? I couldnt find kkkkk
You should compose for the upcoming Star Wars live action series for Disney streaming service
Ludwig Göransson is doing the music for that series.
What movie is this?
You really like punching your computer keyboard don't you? hahaha
please can you activate the subtitles on your videos that I can understand what you are talking about?
I do not understand oral English and your classes are really interesting for me. :(
Holy. Fuck.
4:34 that aged well lol
Mr. Holkenborg can I be your assistant! 🙂
how did he go from EDM to this?
Studying

one person came here for the sick beats..
4 Hours of music GOOD LORD!!!!
I'm surprised he isn't using a mac
Actually Tom, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King was four hours long.
3hrs 20mins
@@saltron7800 you sure? Is that that the original or extended? I was sure RotC was four

A jumbled mess.
