Btw, there is a hack in that amp - like a built in overdrive pedal - to tighten up the red channel… while on the red channel, crank the gain of the blue channel and it makes the red channel increasingly tighter. This way the red channel becomes also great for rhythm playing without an external boost
@@christopher.k.guitar I have tested and can confirm the 50W Stealth does NOT have this "feature". I turned the blue gain all the way down and up and didn't notice and difference on the red channel. But the red channel is already extremely tight anyway!
Best EVH I've owned honestly.... Sold it 3 years ago to buy my motorcycle, but on my "to get" again list. Mine came loaded with the Winged C's when Fender/EVH still used them.
This will probably be my next big purchase. I've been playing through the Mercuriall plugin of this head and I'm absolutely loving it. Blue channel all the way.
The 6L6 is the dog. Aside from the extra hiss involved. The EL34's don't do that. However,.....you don't get that heaven mid saturation that sits in that mix so well. I'd rather have a SLO but that's just me. Great video man.
If you keep pushing this quality content with this consistency and pace, you'll push through that critical algorithm threshold eventually and you can start getting some income out of this. It would be well-deserved! Not many do these things with such accuracy and ear for tone. It's apparent in many details, for example how you're able to mimic certain for example mid-range frequency with a mouth sound or verbally describing "that mesa honk" (made that up) or something like that.
Okay I’m gonna come clean. I bought the Stealth 6L6 50watt a few years ago. I was moving across the country so since it was already packed up, I never took it out of the box. I forgot about it until now 😮 I guess it’s time I finally play it 🤘🏽😳
Very important hidden feature: On the red channel, turning the gain of the blue channel’s dial can modify the gain structure of the red channel - more saturation and tightness as it is dialled up, like a clear boost.
Killer Demo Euge as always, I have the 50 watt version. After this video I think I might grab the 100 watter,You burned up on this Demo Euge!!!!What a killer player you are Euge!
I had the 50w version and sold it to buy the 100S. So many reviews say to get the 50w unless you need the 100w for a large venue and that they're so similar. They might have a similar tone, but the 50w doesn't have the definition, impact, and feeling the 100S has. Makes the 50w version sound more like the lunchbox heads to me. They get the bite, but they don't have the bottom end.
I have been trying that exact head latley through a 1960 lead series Marshall Cab. I have it switchable with my JCM800 2203 through same cab. It is much more versitile with the Clean, Gain Channel and the Boost is awesome for lead. But the JCM 800 still sounds better. The JCM sounds like it is right up front and the 5150 sounds like it is in the back of the room. Still sounds ok but will never beat the Marshall tone. But I am still considering using it exclusivley and retiring the 800 just for the versitility. With my Boss EQ 200 I can almost mimic an 800 tone, and eliminates the need to AB between two heads for clean and gain sound.
@@EugeValovirta230Vwell I tried this weekend just what I said I was going to do. I retired the JCM 800 and picked up a brand new iconic and cab on Saturday. Played Saturday night with it and then played around with it in my home studio all day Sunday with a EQ 200 trying to carve out something reminiscent of a southern rock tone. Final conclusion is, good amp for hard rock heavy metal genres, as far as anything else not even close. I feel it has one target audience. Sounds to gainy and fizzy. Good thing I didn’t take the price tags off it from music store, because that is exactly where it is going back to. Edit update one day later. Returned the 6L6 head and got the EL34 head. Much better to my ear. I’ll give this one a go for a bit. So far I find it easier to dial in a more southern rock tone.
As always, great content. Since you have reviewed both, do you find much of a difference between the 50 and 100 watt in terms of sound? The 100watt having all three independent EQ, pressence and resonance controls is something I really miss on my 50watt that can help shape the tone further.
Something weird about this amp...the blue channel gain control affects the red channel. I'm not sure if the regular 100 watt has the same function, but maybe something to note for your next video. This is probably the best amp I have owned. That red channel alone is a metal beast.
Had this head for several years but I went back to the 6505+. The stealth circuit just has too much gain and a little too hollow in some of the midrange frequencies for me.
Hey Euge, like you my friend I'm a huge Marshall plexi fan but the amp that inspired Jim Marshall was the Fender 59 tweed bassman. We all know the story about how Jim and his team copied the bassman but used parts they had available here in the UK. But have you ever tried to get that metal tone from a bassman? I think it would make a great video watching you get a heavy metal from a 59 bassman. The reissues are really great if you could borrow one 🤘🤘
Hey Euge, Many owners of the EVH 100 stealth 6l6 that if you dime all the knobs on the green/clean channel it's Eddie's (Brown sound) have you tried it ? It's why the clean channel it's not clean.
Can’t decide between EVH stealth 50w or the JVM 50w head. I play mostly Metallica, DIO, Santana, Clapton, Zepplin, GNR, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit and Whitesnake. Any input is greatly appreciated. Btw, I play mostly at home. Gigging days are over.
