Lot of good answers here for people willing to take the time to listen. Yeah, some of y'all may think this is "filler" but between the past video comments and discord it feels like these questions come up a million times. Mike's a channel that'll get into the nitty gritty to show how to dive into the unknown, learn, and iterate along the way. And honestly that approach on the 244 helps get a lot of us old subs get our asses into the garage every weekend to work on our own builds. This was never going to be a quick burn because Mike's a one man fab team, same as any of us. He's got Anthony to help film now so it speeds things up vs the old days, but he's far from all the other big channels that have 5-10 guys doing bolt on or light fab mods on a single car in a month. Instead he gets into the weeds and breaks down research and design choices, the same way we would in the garage on a Friday night in uncharted territory. I feel like that's been more valuable to me as a viewer these past few years than any other channel on here has.
Beautifully said, couldn’t have written it better myself. This project and the 244 is the epitome of the garage work enjoyer. We like building cars, just for building it not for the end result. Cheers mate
For real, I have learned so much more from Mike "re"-working something to get it perfect; where most "content creators" wouldn't have put in his level of effort the _first_ time they designed something, let alone go back and rework it because it still wasn't "good enough". Good luck with your projects🤞😎
Direct injection is absolutely not just for efficiency. If you tune DI and port injection to work together, there are huge power benefits as you have so much more control over detonation, chamber temps etc. Overall the throttle and engine performance would be much smoother with good tuning as you can fill in gaps. I prefer the answer of "we dont really know enough about DI so we are going with our knowledge core."
To add to this, from my (limited) understanding, switching to port injection isn't as easy as it seems. The pistons/engines aren't really set up to run injectors in the runners alone and leads to other issues. Something to do with the piston crowns and combustion area design.. this is way beyond my pay-grade atm to test out, so will be interesting to see how it turns out with somebody else's cash lol

Just want to say, I really appreciate hearing the why behind everything. You thought process is a refreshing mix of function and style and hearing and seeing you work through those processes is just another reason why I watch every episode. Much love and excited for the next couple years!!
Regarding DI: Efficiency and Emissions are a factor, but it also just gains outright performance as you don't have to force a gas+air mixture through the intake valves, only air. Amongst other benefits. I do disagree on the costs of a system for running DI. I'd expect a few thousand, but less than 10k. Motec M182 should be feasible and is less than $6000. Injectors are probably Marelli, maybe Bosch. I think there's a chance to get the flow curves for these from Marelli/Bosch. If not, there's certainly universities with injection labs that can test that for you for free, if you know who to ask. Rest can then be solved on a Dyno with running at constant speed and load and adjusting the injector calibration until the lambda sensor reads what you expect. I'm an F1 engineer and have previously worked a lot with prototype automotive hardware, including Motec ECUs. Hit me up if you want to have a chat about possibilities. I also have some contacts at relevant companies (e.g. Marelli) that I could point towards your project.
I also agree with you with DI's benefits, not just for emissions and efficiency. More atomized fuel, more precise fuel injection control, and better BMEP. Many enthusiasts shy away from DI due to the complexity, the lack of power headroom, and mainly the cost of it all
The first content I’ve ever seen from this channel was episode one of this F40 build. This type of content and honesty and open communication with the fan base is what I believe makes UA-cam great. I’m excited to see where this build goes, thanks for making great content.
Ive been feeling down this week because I came out of the closet to my family and they pretty much disowned me, watching this video made me feel a little better, Im so excited for this build.
Why? A sloppy shifting transmission may be annoying in a normal setup, but impossible to operate with a gated shift plate. The opposite of what you are saying is true

Just throwing this out there: it’s a misconception that a Ferrari had a traditional association with the V12, and it didn’t until the late 90’s (550 Maranello). For most of the 70’s-90’s Ferraris were much more closely associated with the flat 12 engine. The F40 for example was designed and produced during the time when Ferrari was producing flat 12 engines, not V12’s. Also keep in mind the F40 was not associated with the big Jesus grand tourer Flat 12 vehicle lineup in the first place, it shared design and DNA from Ferraris compact sports car line that featured a turbo V8 (that was lighter, because race car). In fact the V12 wasn’t even offered in a mid engined Ferrari until the Enzo in 2002, and then again only in the La Ferrari for limited production. All other mid engined Ferrari’s were either flat 12, or V8 afaik (at least the mass produced ones). So it’s technically wrong to associate the V12 as either traditional, or iconic as it was primarily only installed in front engined vehicles until the F140 powered Enzo ->and even then it’s only been mid mounted in limited production sporadically. Edit: and I’ll add that the building of the name and brand of Ferrari was primarily associated with the Flat 12 from 1970- to the late 90’s.
@@drewski5730 Seriously?! While is not wrong there were many iconic V8’s, the cars that made Ferrari brand iconic were the V12’s from the ‘50s and ‘60s; but V12’s were used in road going Ferrari’s continuously from the 1940’s to the 1970’s, including some of the MOST iconic Ferraris like the 250 GT0, Daytona, P4 and the original 250 Testarossa.
@@dwaynepenner2788 I would argue that the V12 was nearly dropped from the lineup for the better part of 3 decades during what I would argue was their most iconic period of time when the brand was featured all over print and television media. People noticed when magnum PI, Miami vice, most road test shows, and every car magazine featured the brand in every issue. You are entitled to your own opinion, but the fact is the brand was popularized specifically by the flat 12, not the V12 ->and that makes it traditional.
@@dwaynepenner2788 oh, and the majority of those you listed with V12’s were front engined GT cars, NOT mid engines sports or track cars. In fact during the F40’s production run, both for years prior, and years after, I’m pretty sure Ferrari didn’t even have a V12 in production.
As Italian and Ferrari aficionado I can only appreciate your great enthusiasm and passion. After all, the F40 was born from great sense of beauty and dedication! I followed a few interviews of the engineer that designed the F40, Nicola Materazzi, he really had that great spark of passion in his eyes, like you do! So, I believe this is gonna be epic! Materazzi, during one of his storytelling, remembers the first comment that Enzo Ferrari made the very first time he looked to the F40: "I can see a very harmonic and thoughtful placement of all of the components" The art combined with engineering made those cars so special and we are very lucky to still celebrate it today.
You're gonna make some BMW SMG owners mad with that one (I agree with you tho)

I'd say as long as you've to shift manually - so beside "shifter manual" either robotized (automated clutch) manual, or a dogbox. Cause with a dogbox you can use clutch, but when pushing hard(ish) you can just slam it w/o clutch
Phew. Happened to be driving by a few weeks ago and saw a white 5 series pulling up and thought, 'wow, I think that's StanceWorks'. Thought about stopping by but then figured they have enough uninvited guests without me interrupting their day. Glad I kept driving!
Your vision, your dream. Go for it! I was set to not like the choice of any engine other than the original twin turbo V-8 which I think is one of the best sounding Ferraris. But, you can’t go wrong with the iconic sound of a V-12 Ferrari. Looking forward to joining the journey.
We in Italy are very proud of you guys because people how you take the name of Ferrari F40 high! Thank you very much and greetings from Italy! God bless you🇮🇹🫡🇺🇲
Seeing it through to the end is the hardest part on any project! That resonates with me ( and probably all the at home/garage builders out there)! Great video today! Great job tacking all these good but hard questions
@@scott6200 got ya. Ya I like watching the build content way more than the actual racing. It’s cool to see the cars work and be used, but the build is the interesting part for sure.
New to the channel, you hooked me with this project. I'm your generation and absolutely had an F40 centered on the wall of car posters in my childhood bedroom. Love your explanation of "climbing mountains" and appreciate that posture so much. Looking forward to this build and going back through your content. It doesn’t hurt that I'm BMW guy.
Super excited about this build. Your skills and discipline are great! My only worry every time I see a video drop is ‘big red and yellow horse company came knocking and it’s over’. Fingers crossed they don’t, but they have a track record of screwing over everyone who is actually an enthusiast. There are reasons even Jay Leno won’t buy that brand. Good luck brother. Let us all know how to help if they come knocking.
I am excited too 😍 I don't think ferrari will be bothered because he has used a ferrari engine and it's a one off. Ferrari are only bothered when it's a rubbish quality build that devalue the brand OR people are selling replicas trying to profit from ferrari designs. I think ferrari would approve this one 👍
Thank you for being honest about where the money comes from and all the troubles with it👍💪first channel I’ve seen to open up about everything👍well done team 👍💪
As a longtime fan, when the old store still Lowly Gentleman,i bought a T Shirt from you guys, and still have it today. It was epic. Proud and support for you guys.
See it through to the end, climb the mountain….. some people can’t see it, the only way you can understand is your own multi year project. Building an airplane has taught me so many things. Tools, engineering, welding…. But mostly, who I am and how I work.
My only hope is there are no corners cut in building this masterpiece, and I doubt there will be. Really satisfying to watch a build take it’s natural time and no be rushed
Build the car you want, thanks for letting us learn and get to watch. Lots of us know how much time and energy is spent just editing and producing the videos and then there is the actual fab work too! Also, those of us know that $$ is always an issue and you are spot on. Also, some folks may not understand the transmission analogy but like building a restomod, you want it to be reliable so you would probably throw in FI and not a carburetor with a freaking choke. Keep up the good work!!!!!
I really enjoy the content Mike, I don’t understand why some car people think there is only one specific way to built a car.. smh Never let them know your next move, do your thing man!!
You're half-right about direct injeciton. If you're running E85 only, then yes - the extra fuel flow will quickly show the flow limit of the direct injectors, necessitating an upgradee which is not feasible, and it will be more practical and cost-effective to swap to port injectors. However, if you were to retain pump gas, there is no benefit to moving to port injectors on a knock-limited, nasturally-aspirated engine. You will lose the cooling-effect of the DI and will have to lower ignition timing, reducing power. As it's NA, you don't need extra fuel so the swap is pointless. Also, there are MoTeC ECU's that can control direct injection. They aren't "tens of thousands of dollars".
Control arms? He's building the chassis too this time, so I predict at least 19 iterations of F40 shaped objects, in the shop, in the carpark, bolted to the roof...
3:25 for all the work they put into design, I’m still shocked at how little effort Ferrari puts into their welding. I mean, that looks like I welded that and I’m not much of a welder.
I don’t care what anyone says i watched every minute of every video of the 244 build and don’t regret any of it was an awesome watch from day 1 to the very end and im even more excited about this 1 😎😎
I like your approach here. It's your car, your money, your blood sweat and tears. Your vision is great, I like the whole, F40 but it's modern with cool new tech, etc. Looking forward to going along on the ride! Peace from Cape Town South Africa!
Agreed, so rare tho. It's extremely difficult to find parts for. I started planning an F50 build but didn't manage to find all of the parts. Maybe down the line 🤔
With regards to the forum, I used to frequent it, and I was only quite a recent subscriber to the channel because I was expecting it to be about stanced lexuses or BMWs all the time. So I was very pleasantly surprised when I saw it's so much more than that and now I'm an avid follower and can't wait to see the F40 journey!
What new skills will I learn?- Being a lawyer and defending lawsuits from Ferarri. Charge one- You have already referred to this car as an F 40 which is a registered name owned by Ferarri.

The F40 is going to be amazing. Doesn't matter why, just why not. Build projects are for the people that are passionate about cars and building them. What's important is that the person building the car enjoys building it and that the person building the car puts passion into the build. After you're done with the F40, have fun with it because you only live once. CARPE VIAM!

Mike, I really appreciate you for what you’re doing. The whole Stanceworks back in 2009 got me into automotive world and since then it’s been a great experience and a fun trip. Thanks man!
I am so happy to hear about the Gearbox choice. It will be so fast changing, so fun to use and like to say take control of. And mainly its something that just isn't seen outside racing cars and those rarely get explained like you will show it off and integrating it.
So stoked for this build, please keep explaining why you are doing things the way it is. Im learning so much already, very inspiring and helpful for my soon first build. Thanks❤❤
I watched from the start of the 244 gtk and I’ll be here to the end of this one. The F40 has always been a favourite of mine. I like your style, not gonna build this for anything in particular, just the way it needs to be built. Glad it’s gonna be red, blue would be my second choice. Can’t wait to see the frame come together, with the awesome h&r push rod suspension. Happy to watch every episode you bless us with. Thanks Mike

To add, massive respect on the explanation of the funds but more importantly how long you’ve been pushing Stanceworks prior to becoming as popular as you are now ❤️❤️

Great episode Mike. I guess I'll be enjoying watching your journey over the next couple of years. Project Binky has been going for about 4 years and I still look forward to every video. Please don't forget the Audi along the way. Almost excited about that car as it one of my favorites.
Yeah at this point money is no object. Its the passion of the build and how it will turn out. They are not here satisfy audiences requests, they want to just take us on the ride. This is totally amazing.
Yo just want to say a huge congratulations that all your hard work and commitment can lead to builds like this. Keep doing what your doing bro. Best UA-cam channel around..

This channel is so underrated.. I hope this project makes it hit the 1mil subs and over
This is going to be so f'n cool. You are building a F40. I get goose bumps thinking about it.
Not really. They are building a kit car that will have some f40 body panels.
He is building steel tubes with a knockoff inline 12
I've got the cold snacks and popcorn ready. I'm looking forward to this build. Your attention to detail is impeccable! Stay your course. This is your dream many of us regular guys dream about.
100% 😍
I’m excited for whatever you’re going to do with the F40! Yours is one of the very few Channels I’ve supported financially. And that’s because I love the quality and the attention to detail in your builds and video prod. Whatever you do, I’m here for it. Fingers crossed you make a F40 deck!
I like that you are answering all of the why's. The real answer to everything is because it's what you want/like.
With that 812 superfast motor in it , its gonna be what the F40 should have always been !
A V12 powered mid engined beast !!!!
agreed
Materazzi, during one of his storytelling, remembers the first comment that Enzo Ferrari made the very first time he looked to the F40:
"I can see a very harmonic and thoughtful placement of all of the components"
The art combined with engineering made those cars so special and we are very lucky to still celebrate it today.
As long as it has a clutch pedal; IT IS A MANUAL!
There is no clutch buddy
@@yogamon There is.
It will have a clutch pedal and everything. I'm genuinely surprised by how many people don't understand this transmission.
Looking forward to joining the journey.
you and rob are two of my absolute favorite youtubers im happy about that little shout out and am excited to see where this build goes!
I'm crazy stoked for this project. I bet within 5 years, you will have 4mil+ subs
We in Italy are very proud of you guys because people how you take the name of Ferrari F40 high! Thank you very much and greetings from Italy! God bless you🇮🇹🫡🇺🇲
"The journey is the destination" - I'm happy to be along for it! 😃
Seeing it through to the end is the hardest part on any project! That resonates with me ( and probably all the at home/garage builders out there)! Great video today! Great job tacking all these good but hard questions
This answers the question people had during his previous builds. He 100% just likes to build cars, not drive or race them. And I am here for it.
Umm, he does drive and race them…..
@ I know he does. I guess I should have said he is more into building. I didn’t mean he literally doesn’t drive or race them.
You gota do what you enjoy in life 👍 he may do alot of driving/racing but not film it. Car guys are always working on the next thing 😎
I think they'll only be bothered if he calls it a Ferrari or puts a Ferrari badge on it.
The format of your channel is perfect. I enjoy it as much as listening to a good podcast
Thank you for being honest about where the money comes from and all the troubles with it👍💪first channel I’ve seen to open up about everything👍well done team 👍💪
crazy projects like these are what keep the car community alive. keep breaking expectations brother. its awesome!
I'm here for the progression and watching your thought process. The end result should be damn sweet.
As a longtime fan, when the old store still Lowly Gentleman,i bought a T Shirt from you guys, and still have it today. It was epic. Proud and support for you guys.
This and Tavarish,s p1 are my favorite builds on youtube
😎
DDE F12?
@@gevinhorn2531 I'm building a V12 supercar 😎 with the OG zonda engine 👍
See it through to the end, climb the mountain….. some people can’t see it, the only way you can understand is your own multi year project. Building an airplane has taught me so many things. Tools, engineering, welding…. But mostly, who I am and how I work.
I wasn't bothered by your decisions (it's not my car anyway), but hearing your reasons had me voicing the words, "fuck yeah'.
My only hope is there are no corners cut in building this masterpiece, and I doubt there will be. Really satisfying to watch a build take it’s natural time and no be rushed
Congratulations on the new lease.
Mike, un from México and I’ve been following you and your builds since rusty. It’s nice to see what you have done.
1:08 I got edged, I thought he meant it would be a hillclimb car 😭
Dude I was so excited for that, maybe one day
Build the car you want, thanks for letting us learn and get to watch.
100% agree 😎👍
Since when do you NEED a point, to build a project car? Building cars is what we do in life for fun.... So that's it!
thank you for somebody finally shouting out couch built, what hes doing on thte i8 deserves so much more recognition than it is getting currently!
DUDE , LETS BUILD AN F40, AND ,,Iam allowed to sit front row and hang out and watch,, thanks dude,, im in!!
I really enjoy the content Mike, I don’t understand why some car people think there is only one specific way to built a car.. smh
Never let them know your next move, do your thing man!!
Agree 💪 gota build the dream.
I am supprized to see so many nasty comments on this Vid for such an awesome build.
Agreed on all counts, minus MoTeC. A complete MoTeC system is an easy $20,000.
Most underrated build on UA-cam
I wonder how many sets of control arms we'll go through for the F40!?
Control arms? He's building the chassis too this time, so I predict at least 19 iterations of F40 shaped objects, in the shop, in the carpark, bolted to the roof...
Enzo's latest masterpiece: the Ferrari F40. One of the most beautiful supercars to date. I wish you the best of luck. In this fantastic project 👍
3:25 for all the work they put into design, I’m still shocked at how little effort Ferrari puts into their welding. I mean, that looks like I welded that and I’m not much of a welder.
I don’t care what anyone says i watched every minute of every video of the 244 build and don’t regret any of it was an awesome watch from day 1 to the very end and im even more excited about this 1 😎😎
Having the digital dash flip to a backup camera when you select reverse would be dope AF.
I love when I see someone unapologetically build the car that THEY want instead of what everyone on the Internet wants to see. Much respect Mike.
He’s been apologising for 3 videos now 😂
19:43 Not only 1, but I got 2!
How did he do that?
@@rubenwijtman2736 I believe when you get monetized you can set certain timestamps for ads, amount, etc, only a guess, never looked into it.
I like your approach here. It's your car, your money, your blood sweat and tears. Your vision is great, I like the whole, F40 but it's modern with cool new tech, etc. Looking forward to going along on the ride! Peace from Cape Town South Africa!
Do people not realize that the F50 was a V12? A criminally underrated car really. Always in the shadow of the F40.
Agreed, so rare tho. It's extremely difficult to find parts for. I started planning an F50 build but didn't manage to find all of the parts. Maybe down the line 🤔
Congrats on being able to keep the shop. Can't wait to see what's next.
You should so make this a single centreline seat
Oh yes, that would really neat and something special!
Roughly 2 years? I hope you'll take much longer because I'm here for the ride!!! Let's go!
15:19 so it’s a trailer queen. 🤭

As a huge Ferrari fan, I am really looking forward to this build.
The F40 is going to be amazing. Doesn't matter why, just why not. Build projects are for the people that are passionate about cars and building them. What's important is that the person building the car enjoys building it and that the person building the car puts passion into the build.
After you're done with the F40, have fun with it because you only live once. CARPE VIAM!
Agree 💪
i've been a follower since 2009. i have some really old stickers and t shirts that dont fit anymore. i visited your blog every week i looked forward to reading it. I am a huge fan of your new build and your past builds. keep grinding man
This channel was suggest d to me for quite some time as you built the 244... I resisted for quite a while also... When I finally gave in I was happy I did and wish I had been following a long the entire time... All of your answers seem well thought over, I like the new build regardless of where it goes, IT'S AN F40!
Happy for you on the new lease! But hopefully your channel generates more money so you can be ready when something else comes along
Thanks Mike
Discussion is Important, but I don’t get how people can question your choices when you are the one provide this amazing of a project and content in the first place. If he’s the one crazy enough and the one who has the time and money to do something this awesome, let him do whatever he wants haha I‘ll watch whatever he does gladly
I’m legit going to try and watch every episode over the next couple years dude. Do your thing
To add, massive respect on the explanation of the funds but more importantly how long you’ve been pushing Stanceworks prior to becoming as popular as you are now ❤️❤️
Finally!!!! I’ve been idealizing this car since I was a year old kid. You touched base on two things I’ve been thinking about my whole life. GATED MANUALS REPLACE BUSHINGS, and pop up headlights look stupid on that car. Thank you for being outspoken!
I really root for you. wish i could do something like you. First the 308. Thats awesome and now this. You are living the dream!
Great episode Mike. I guess I'll be enjoying watching your journey over the next couple of years. Project Binky has been going for about 4 years and I still look forward to every video. Please don't forget the Audi along the way. Almost excited about that car as it one of my favorites.
Loving the new journey. Excellent ideas and explanations. Sitting back in Christchurch enjoying all the Auto content in general from all the lads!
Dude I'm right behind you! Make all the videos you can to help finance the build. I can't wait!!!
For the metal 3D printing, I believe Wesley Kagan (his UA-cam channel is the same name) does some metal 3D printing. I’m sure you guys have heard of him, but in the rare chance you haven’t, he seems like he has a very similar dedication to perfection, and might be able to lend a hand or some advice with metal 3D printing for this build.
Loving it all so far, this build is inspiring!
I'm happy that you're keeping the colour original and I'm looking forward to following your journey with what i believe is the greatest car. The F40... Perfection!
guys showing up to the shop to visit today "hey, man! super excited to stop by unannounced. Love what you're doing. Really excited to watch today's video. Hope it doesn't say anything about not stopping by unannounced!"
I love the entire concept. I have enjoyed your past projects and am excited to watch the evolution of this new adventure.
Totally agree with you on the gated manuals. They can be tricky, especially in an intense situation.
Am in for the long haul, so 2 plus years is no problem!! Glad you got the shop issue sorted out, albeit at additional cost. Should make everything easier, except the unannounced visitors!
