    This video shows the process of inking a bespoke tattoo design for a customer of mine, Ty Keating.
    We threw around many ideas that were personal to Ty, before both settling on this theme and layout. He was very specific about how the piece should look overall, so we weren't short of ideas for the individual elements. It was a really rewarding piece to work on.
    I am planning to make a more detailed video soon which shows and explains the materials and techniques that I use in greater depth. Please leave a comment and let me know what you would like to see in future videos.
    Thanks for watching!
    Materials:
    Daler Rowney Bristol Board (250gsm)
    Faber Castell PITT Artist pens (sizes S and F)
    Staedtler Pigment Liners (sizes 0.1 and 0.05)
    Speedry Magic Colour black acrylic ink
    Cass Art synthetic brush (size 0)
    Essdee black scraperboard

      It was a pleasure working on this dude. I never accept a job if I don't think I'll be able to get into it like I should, but this piece was definitely one of the most enjoyable ones for me. Can't wait to see a pic of it on your arm!

    Hi David. I am so glad I found this tutorial of yours. Your work is incredible! I’ve read through the comments and haven’t seen the information I’ve been hoping to find. Hopefully you will find a minute to answer 😊 Can you share on how you use the scrapeboard? I can see you scraping, but what do you do with it? Many thanks in advance! Cheers, Ania

    • @LaMortLondon
      @LaMortLondon  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Ania! Thanks for watching. I scan in the black ink work and the scraperboard pieces separately and then overlay them in photoshop. The black ink layer goes underneath on a normal layer, and then the scraper board artwork on a top layer with the layer blend mode switched to screen. This drops everything off the scraperboard scan other than the white highlights. Hope this makes sense!

    Incredible work, and such clean lines! Do you cut the scraperboard out and glue in on or is it redone on the final work?

    Brilliant!
    I’d be interested to know what you use with the paintbrush as I use Indian ink and it’s ruining mine lol
    Also what do you do first, is it in pencil so you can be sure to do good lines?

    • @LaMortLondon
      @LaMortLondon  3 роки тому

      I use FW black acrylic ink with the brush as it's super opaque. First I print a copy of my pencil artwork on to my Bristol board so I know what I am inking over.

    how do you get the ideas for stuff like this? do you combine multiple reference photos? do you have any tutorials on how to develop a composition like this?

    • @LaMortLondon
      @LaMortLondon  5 років тому +1

      Hi Alex. My process is kind of ever-changing, I adopt new methods as I find out about them. At the moment, I sort of loosely mock up a composition with reference images. I then draw all the different elements in my own style, changing them from the references to fit what I am doing. I then scan all the different drawings and rearrange the final composition in Photoshop. Once the client has approved the pencil drawing, I print it out at 10% cyan and hand ink it.
      The reason I don't draw pieces 'whole' any more, is that many clients want the freedom to look at the pencil work and say 'can I have just the shield a bit bigger', or 'take just the skull out and put a ram's head in'. It means I can just grab bits and take them back out again or change them. Hope this helps!

      La Mort London thanks for the info on how you go about drawing, what you be willing to do a video on the process of gathering references and drawing the initial rough sketch and then filling out details? I’d be really interested to see how you combine the references together and then come up with your own thing because that’s what I’m trying to figure out how to do. I can practice technique I know how to do that but not sure how to properly combine reference photos for a composition and then making it my own

      Hey! I use FW Acrylic ink with a brush. Pens are all Staedtler Pigment Liners, or Faber-Castell PITT Pens (The ones in the vid are Faber-Castell). Hope this helps.

      Sadly, no. But, there is good news too. I am designing the new collection as we speak, and I can promise you that it includes many, many skulls, as well as some crazy stuff I have never used before! I hope it will be the best one yet, as it's certainly the most difficult. :)
