A simple 3 string fretless cigarbox guitar, made by ChickenboneJohn

Here's a very simple fretless cigar box guitar -3 strings, short scale (22 3/4 inch with a single coil electric pickup.
There's no need for the action to be high, if properly made these guitars can be played with fingers in a conventional way and with a slide.
We generally prefer to put a magnetic pickup in our guitars rather than a passive piezo, as they are so much more useable and predictable when plugged into an amp.
The neck has a round-over profile rather than a fully hand carved profile, and the fret markers are 1920s style with a printed Kraft paper strip glued onto the neck and lacquered, all pretty much as simple as you can get, and true to the "stick in a box" idea.

Wow! What a sound ! I love it. I also like the short 22 3/4 scale length. I have an identical box to that one,it's lovely to see one set up as a CBG. Thanks CBJ 🙂

My son purchased one of your CBG’s for me as a Christmas gift. Tuned it to open E, sounds great. A little buzzy with a slide, but I think it’ll go away if I tune it to open G and stress the neck a little. Yep, I was right. Nice piece of gear, quite pleased. 👍🏻👍🏻

Just a quick question : how do you deal with the grounding, when going the one pickup, straight to the jack output with no volume knob route ? Just going from the pickup to the jack, or is there a ground wire somewhere linked to to the strings via the tailpiece ? Thanks !
