Well, this one took a while! Not helped by the fact that the prototype Traska sent me 6 months ago ended up in Canberra, never to be seen again! Ha! Anyway, this watch has definitely been worth the wait. An original design with a few nice touches. Seiko NH3x movement for $400 though? Perhaps one of you will ask a question about that in the channel first, live Q&A at the end? Cheers, JOMW.
Watch :) Price :/
Good review 👍🏻 good looking watch just a wee bit too expensive 👍🏻 Q & A session was brilliant thanks 😀
This was my thought as well. At that price I would expect a Miyota 90xx, instead of the NH38.
very, very nice. If I didn't have several divers already, this would be a real looker for me. "Looker" is some kind of British slang, I think.
Thumb up for non submarine diver... 😃
Love the little Q&A cession. Good show!
Looks a beauty. Absence of a date function is a plus imo.
Agreed ! Date is overrated
Another question for the Q&A: How am I supposed to get money to buy all the watches and how to wear them enough on the wrist?
Haha! Sorry mate, can't help you with those questions. I have the same problem myself. Cheers!
Any upcoming "Chinese Specials"?
"Mocktail Time" next Saturday, and a Top 10 Chinese Specials vid planned for 11/11!
Love this Mint & Black Bezel version!
This one looks a lot like the Aquacy yellow subby you looked at the other day.
Hands very similar!
This is a really nice watch and LOVE the mint color, but its just not worth the $400 price tag. Needs to be closer to phoebis pricing
I love that mint dial... the micro brands can get creative in a way a lot of the established brands can't. I'm watching this in Oct 2019... their website says they're doing another release of Freedivers in December. I may well get one!
Love that mint dial. I'm a mess though and never know what the date is. No date, no go. :-/
"Swithering" - a beautiful Scottishism. Thank you for expanding my vocabulary Jody!
Actually, pretty nice. I like the mint dial choice you got with sapphire bezel insert. The only other watch that has something like this, well the sort of mint colored dial, is Halios (crazy trying to get one) and Raven.
Good dimensions and the overall finish appears pretty good as well.
Overall, well worth the $400 or so they are currently going for. Even better had you taken advantage of the discounted preorder price.
"For your mother"
Love the QA, should asked for some more butter for the other half of toast. Thank you for the great video.
Have you been watching Tom Waits press conferences from awhile back for the Q &A session?
Hahahahah. Nice Q&A. It almost seemed like you knew all the answers! Thanks for the info and making us laugh a bit.
i like it, has a Halios vibe
A bit smick.Love the bluey mint color ,reminds me of the color on bianchi road bicycles.
Hi Jody! Lovely, crisp and fresh dial, nice Watch globally but why is it so close in design to the Richard Legrand for the case and, even more, the bezel?! a bit annoying, imho…Thx! :-)
thanks for another great review! I really like this watch, specially the lume on the bezel, wish more companies would do this. but..I need a date function, at 66 yrs old i forget, and still in my daily travels I'll get ask for it, amazing, right? So can't pull trigger, hope he makes enough to create another more complete watch.
I also need a date window I prob look at my watch 20 times a day for the date
I prefer without a date
Simple and clean. Beautiful timepiece all around. Love that they went with 40mm. Wish that lug to lug was a bit shorter tho 😕
I have 6 quarter inch vary small wrist ...I guess this watch is so we'll built like it's built for me am going to buy this one for sure ( for now I have Seiko presage enamel watch with 6r27 movement dress watch ) and I need one sport watch for weekends ...I guess this will do and am content with 2 watches for life !
Thanks for the review. Have you heard of the brand Aquadive? Hope that you can do a review on this dive watch brand, especially the Aquadive Bathyscaphe 100.
For usd300+, d co. only put in nh38? Armida price is a lot better though it is just aluminium bezel. My A11 cost less than 300 with a miyota 9k movement
Please review the new Traska Freediver 2
grey with black bezel or black with black bezel.
Do you think the updated version addressed the concerns mentioned here?
i would love to see some microbrands using the seagull st21 or even better st1812 (eta 2892), allowing thinner watches.
It's a shame more watch makers don't use protective coating on their cases & bracelets.
When I first saw the watch i though i wouldnt be interested but after the review and looking at for while, here´s my take:
Positives:
- Its really something different color wise and i like it! (usually i do not like "fancy colored dails")
- The watch has a really clean, to the piont, look.
- I like the logo.
- The inside and outside look of the clasp is really beautiful.
Negatives:
- I would have really liked if the logo was applied instead of painted on
- The watch could be at least 50$ cheaper
- The clasp as no recess of the finger/fingernail and i was really suprised you didnt mention that because in one of your previous reviews of a watch (unfortunatly i dont remember which one) you criticed that watch for it harshly.
Personal choises / comments:
I love the clean look of the watch which is the reason why i, for one, dont mind the minimalist hands, and secondly would go for the steel bezel insert. That steel bezel insert does give the watch an even more clean look, and plays up the contrast between the watch case and the dail. All this further more supported by the choise of Traska to not include a date or day function, which i usually dont like but fits this watch very well.
Cheers mate! :)
I like the new stone grey one. About $600. $900 in Aussie. Still might think about it. I think it will be a long term watch.
Too much money for this watch for the Seiko movement. It should have the miyota 9100.
Not liking that they say waterproof on the back, heard from a watchmaker once that waterproof from them means it can have water in the movement and still work fine. Besides that it seems fantastic aside from from no date function. Wish my seiko presage had that protective coating
I like it bar the pasty face. If 100m WR means just that, no one can complain really.
And the chapter ring is aligned too 😯... Nice video pal! 😎👍
This watch is not a joke, but Australia Post are!
All listed watches on their website are sold out, what a fucking Joke!!
Love my TRASKA with the black dial and steel bracelet. So unique
Hah, Hah...love the Q & A segment of this review!! Oh, nice watch too!!
Another great review only getting here in 2021....... love the green
I wish date complications was available
Always good to see a new video, but this one is just a tad pointless. A review of a unavailable watch that is a makers fantasy. What??
No mate, these are available to buy.
Ayy haha UB pride !! Go Bulls
Beautiful looking watch
Love the Stable Genius press conference at the end. Keep em coming Jody.
Very good you point you brought up. I myself is a guilty party here. I often look down on NH35 forgetting that it is extremely reliable, accurate etc. If only this watch was about 320 dollars, I would be all over this. Great review like always and love the live Q&A 👌🤣
Got a same one for sale if anyone is interested.
It's called Freediver, but it's not free! How come?
Doh, dude.... Free as in "free speech", but NOT as in "free beer".
Nice watch, I'll possibly wait for a date window. I like the NH35/38 but I have too may watches with this movement and want something different. Had a good laugh with the Q & A! :)
Awesome watch! Wish it had a Sellita to make it a thin "freediver". Otherwise, very well executed.
Version 2.0 of this and the Summitteer are coming out in a few months and on Jan 10th I'm preordering the gray model they're offering. A few upgrades have been made but for $500 I think you get one helluva watch.
Nice review. The watch looks crisp, and detailed. I really like the mint dial. But alas, no date. And I do think the price should come down a bit, to maybe $350 USD. But, I still cant afford it. Yet.
It's stupid to think that a similarly priced ETA is better than a Seiko movement because it's swiss. My Seiko Prospex watches run generally more accurate than my entry level Certina's and Tissot's. They only look and feel way nicer. If you want a good Swiss movement, you don't wanna buy a 500€ watch.
The Prospex are a great watch, I love my SBDC051, absolute class. Totally agree with you on the Swiss/Japanese thing, Swiss does not guarantee anything other than where it is assembled, I have Swiss and Japanese watches and to be honest I think you get more for you money with Japanese,.
@@gilliebrand Love the SBDC051, actually on my list but on it, it's fighting against the slightly cheaper Certina DS Action diver with the Amazing Powermatic 80. TBH if I would go for a four figure priced seiko, the Marine Master is tempting me more.
I have looked at the Marine Master range and I love them, but, I am picking up a couple of Tudors next year so buying another Seiko is on the backburner for 2018/2019. Saying that one of those Tudors is a GMT and I hear there are problems with the in house movement so I might kick that into the long grass. The problem is I love every watch I see and want to buy them all. Saw the Seiko Sportura Perpetual Solar tonight and thought it would make a nice beater watch...can't stop looking, can't stop buying. It's a disease, one wrist, too many watches! The Certina DS Action is a bonny watch, what colour were you thinking of? some nice options to go for with that watch.
Hallo Jody, good quality watch, nice video as always.Ugly hands and no date, expensive.
Hilarious ending!!! 👍🏻 missed this video just found it today by searching for Traska reviews! Great vid! Enjoyed very much!
It's nice to see a dial with a different colour than black.
It's odd I like the green colour that copper goes. This appears to be a shade lighter and reminds me of toothpaste. Not that I have an issue with toothpaste it's just I have no need for it.
Much better than the “yellow submarine-r” 🤣!
Obviously it’s double the cost but well worth it! I don’t mind that bracelet, perhaps a follow up to see how it handles the desk diving?
It does look like a strap lover, I can see this on some rubber, perlon, maybe a distressed leather strap...
I like the tropical vibe with the lighter dial. A little less formal than the Richard LeGrand but similar in specs...
Great video 👍I'm considering either this watch vs the lorier neptune vs maen hudson
All look like decent microbrand divers but not sure any are better than the seiko sbdc053 (on the bracelet)- any view/recommendation?
Why do I see a Phoibus? $400? Too many other great options for the same price. Thank you for the review.
So many watches, so little time
I actually dislike having a date wheel. It's one more thing for me to set, and one more distraction on the watch face.
Thanks Jody. Incidentally I've just acquired a guanqin power reserve that you recommended a while ago. Great watch. Is it a Shanghai movement? Best regards from Adrian in Sheffield England 😀
The U.S. Postal Service is not much better. I try not to order anything unless it's coming by UPS or a more reliable delivery service than the government, honestly. It's a nice watch and I do appreciate that they are very transparent about manufacturing origins. I do wish it was a bit less money but you do get a decent amount for your dollar.
Traska's logo looks very much like Starking. Coincidence? I think not!
For your mother? have you become a housewives favourite jody? 5 years ago I would've pitied that, now im officially jealous.
Way too expensive!
The dial and bracelet color are probably not my style. But I must say that the philosophy of making the watch scratch resistant attracts me. I am because of economical reasons an "used watch" kind of guy, but I hate scratches that cant be polished out and brushed again. Especially on the crystal and bezel. One of my grails (please let me have more than one) is a Certina Diamaster. Sapphire crystal and case made of wolfram. Should be pretty much scratch resistant. Rado also made one of wolfram, this was called the Diastar. I wonder why they dont use this material anymore. Too expensive perhaps? I will see if Google can answer the question. Coated sapphire bezel and crystal, wolfram case and bracelet, and the movement lying in a thick rubber band like the old Certina DS's, that would be indestructable, albeit not dropped on the sapphire. Enough ranting, thanks for a nice review, and thumbs up for the bread and butter analogy :) See you around.
I really love the design and the boldness of the dial color, although at 100 WR, not much of a diver, more like a Wader.
Terrible name ..... 😀🤣
A lovely colour and a nice dial. It's almost there, but too thick for only 100m plus you don't need a bezel to time your dive as a free diver do you? A bezel is useful however and it's all well thought out and looks great. I cannot put my finger on it, perhaps it's just not for me.
The crowd for the Q&A must of been deaf and dumb lip readers? Great skills on your part for been able to decipher the questions Jody 😆😉
In case you don't know, Gearbest is having a walk and the watches you rate with Japanese auto movements are even cheaper, grab a bargain!
Thanx Jody, nice vid, nice dial color, need a date complication personally. A little too sterile. Lume? Q/A? Too funny Jody. 👍
Thank you Jody! Very much appreciated!Frank from Boulder
Looks like another China watch, for the same price you could get nice Japanese or swiss watch.
I love this watch, especially the mint green dial.
If you’re doing more Kickstarter watches i hope you’ll consider a Klokers.
Sorry Jody but no thank you, i don't like that one at all. Great review though
OMG i just realised you sound so much like Jim White (the sky sports presenter) ... haha ... great channel and keep up the great work
Good looking watch, no complaints there. No day- daydate is a no go! Price is pushing it out of the interesting zone. Sorry, try harder next time for this Brand.
Nice review. Very attractive watch! I hope they make more variant colors.
100m only, no applied indices, other than that, it looks a nice watch. So many kickstarters, how many will survive? How long will the cheap movements last¿
Warranty is good though.
The NH3x series is affordable, not cheap. There's a difference.
And you can swim with 100m wr and a screw down crown. Unless you're an actual diver, that should be a non issue.
No them seem to be applied hour markers, the rest of the dail is printed on. As for the Seiko movement, it's a hell of work horse and very accurate as well!
@@joeesparza6108 Ive heard the nh seiko movement is accurate.
I'm pretty sure that there are applied indices! 3:55
@@BANHMIZON yes you are correct
hi, thanks for the video. how does it compare with the halios seaforth?
Another great review!
Yep, seems pretty decent. Bracelet couild be a smidge less wide mybe, sems to dominate the watch in a couple of the shots but otherwise agree with what you say. Maybe check out Lorier watches - their vintage inspired dive pieces are spot on IMHO
Great review. I live in the ACT, so I'll ask around about the missing Traska. That dial really pops (omg I'm talking in horological cliches now).
Well looks like it's time to sell my Richard LeGrand.
Great review, and I particularly enjoyed the Q/A session at the end! Never hurts to inject a little humor into your reviews. I am interested in the engraved buckle. I love Scotland and Ireland. The Celtic emblem makes me ask what is the connection to the Celtic area of the world?
Hey there Jody.. beauty of a watch! I was going to go for a Phoibos. Now, not sure! Hey, when you measure the lug to lug length of the watch does one follow the curve beneath or just cut the tangent with the mm scale? Sounds like a fussy question but my wrist is a bit smaller than yours.. 6.5 and I want to be as certain as I can on size. Many thanks for all you do!
Frank from Boulder, Colorado, USA
Frank! Hello again! I measure straight across. Also look at the EMG Nemo and Seiko Mini Turtle. Both should fit you very well indeed.
Great video and thanks for supporting UB. My university.
I suspect the mint is a bit vegemite and not for me, but otherwise looks great.
Honest review as always, keep up the good work and more Q&A sessions please!
Graet wach
Excellent video as always. Thanks for the cute bonus at the end. ;)
Reminds me of the Richard Legrand Oddysea II...still looks amazing thanks!
Was thinking the same thing. And for an extra $140, it's hard to justify the better finish over the Legrand. I do like the unique mint dial and the 40mm is a great [universal] size. I hope they eventually go to NH35 and cut a date window....I mean, why not? Since we're comparing Legrand, they put the date at 3'clock - kept it subtle, without distracting from a beautiful dial. Lastly, the mint color is nice, but not for everyone. They may as well do some other colors- my vote for some blues, and perhaps a deep red [think Tudor with black bezel]. Great review, thanks!
@@annst271 odyssea is $40 shipping to my country though, whereas the traska is free worldwide. 400 is pushing it though, probably bite at 350 or less. Prefer the traska branding and a tad thinner wearing.
Nice $250 watch for $400 Hmm.
Haha...love that parting Q&A session! Great review, as always!
Cracking review, that is a bonnie watch. I hope it does well, if it does who knows what is to come? That logo is nice, too 👌🏻
Great review. A lot of fun. Thanks.
Interesting... I was almost sure that putting “Waterproof” on a watch these days was illegal
400 for a movement that costs 20 bucks!?!
Jody! Great review as always. Loved the addition of the Q&A. I didn’t realize it was going to be a studio Q&A, how can I get a ticket to the next one?
Hahahaha! The more voices in my head and my lounge room the merrier Rob. Cheers!
