I think it's about Passover, personally. At least partially. "The spirit is over town, waiting for me to hit the floor" ~ holy spirit taking souls of egyptian firstborn "Looming wide sky for the voice of one calling tonight" ~ God said, that night there will be a cry over all of Egypt, the loudest cry anyone has ever or will ever hear that night. "Tonight fate is the red crown, the red crown around your door" ~ lambs blood the Hebrews put around their doors, particularly the top of the door (crown) to protect themselves from the holy spirit
I saved a video of the Hero of Light fighting Garland in the Cosmos stage and replayed it with this song in the background. Needless to say it was just as impressive as the battle between Cloud and Sephiroth in Advent Children.
this is such a lovely song but yet kind of saddening for me i know songs can mean anything to people but this song reminds me of a story of war a mother saying goodbye and crying watching her son leaving for war with a rifle in hands now i know how the mothers of war felt having to say goodbye to her sons or a father vice versa it is such a sad feeling to lose a child not knowing when if it is goodbye or not :'c
i was just playing as the warrior of light and fighting to this song a few minutes ago and i thought "i cant understand 60% of this song because of the battle noises... i think i'll look the lyrics up on youtube." and here i am! awesome song. this and one winged angel r my favs. OWA grew on me since i beat Crisis Core FF VII several times.
Half the lyrics make no sense to me, but I love this song anyway. :P Best lines: Compassion is the flag a righteous maaaaaan, a righteous man will hoooold.
@Wade Watts Ok I will answer, but WARNING: *SPOILER ALERT !* Sephiroth were a kind boy until the day he discovered how he has been "created", by a scientist. He is not really a human, he has cells of another species. And once he had known that, he started to hate people, especially the SOLDIER company which uses *(Edited)his Mother's cells for experiences, and then he wanted to avenge her. As for Genesis... I don't really know about him even after beating the game. I just know that he is a guy who clones himself (by experiences) so as to cease the degradation of his species. By the way, he has the same cells as Sephiroth. If you want to learn more, you'll have to beat the game... or just ask again.
It's "roaming through the land" not "roaming through the night." I don't mean that hatefully, just letting you know. I hate it when I get lyrics wrong and no one tells me, so I like to try and help others with that.
@SailorWolfFang yea its Your Favorite Enemies. If your wondering for other songs just go to the final fantasy wiki & search the name of the song in the search bar & it will have auto answers so just pick the one with (Song) on it.
I've been wondering what the lyrics are for months. They're pretty much what I thought they were, but this helped illuminate them. :) I wish I could sing it. :/
lol, these lyrics make no sense at all. XD The lyrics are just so illogical and random it's actually funny. lol, I mean seriously, what do pilgrims and marching bands have to do with each other? XD Not to say that I don't like the song, I love listening to it. It's very beautiful sounding. :)
Idk if it’s just bc I’m in the military but they’re all representing war marching bands, pilgrims, mothers sending their sons off to war marching bands howling war cries the red crown can be interpreted in a few other ways I’m in the infantry and we our “Mascot” or whatever is the queen of battle so perhaps it’s paying homage to her and her crown
To everyone saying the lyrics don't make sense: it's clearly a call to arms, but still asking for compassion towards the enemy.

As marine I now can see what my mother must’ve felt watching me go off into the corps.
The male singer is Balthier. He refused to be in the actual game because Balthier doesn't fight for anyone without a price, lol.
One of the best songs from the game in my opinion! I love this song!
i always wondered what the lyrics were, thanks for uploading this, i love this song, its pretty deep too
Still listening in June 2019

I like the Chaos battle theme version, makes it much interesting when your fighting a difficult battle in the game right?
A fighter most hold a minder most fold higher purpose then a hero then what reaches one who is meant of drokeness
So fucking nostalgic.
