- After putting over 60 hours into The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, I really don't get why people think this is a Masterpiece. It's a good game, yeah, and improves on Breath of the Wild in a lot of ways, but I can't shake off the feeling that I just bought the same game AGAIN. Is it just a DLC? Is it a complete overhaul? Is it worth $70? Let's find out in this review, analysis, whatever.

The funniest part is even accounting real word race “science” hyrule a races are very realistic. The darker skinned npcs come from Faron, a sun tropical rainforest, and gerudo desert, both places where people in our world would have darker skin.

No, I was implying that Gerudo aren't Hylian/Human, seeing as they only produce Gerudo when they mate with Hylians (which you would know if you actually played the games).

Well Queen Gibdo was not the only Boss were you have multiple ways to approach. I didn't shoot a single arrow at the Boss of the Wind Temple. You can just break these crystal dome things by sky diving through them.
You can also use ascend on ghoma, you never need to attack the legs at all!

Agreed. When I got to the Rito dungeon and flipped the switches to fight the boss within like ten minutes of arriving there, I was genuinely confused.
This is - by far - the most simplistic “dungeon design” I’ve ever seen in a Zelda game. It makes the divine beasts looks like the Water Temple from OoT.
I found some of the big open dungeons like the Gerudo and Goron ones a bit more obtuse. I was at a loss as to some of the "intended methods" of going about some of the areas. The shrines actually do a way better job of pointing you in the right direction on puzzles and designs.

You'd think Nintendo would have a flag set for what temples you've completed and advance the story further inside the flashbacks after each temple, but they didn't. You complete one segment and you can literally skip the scene after discovering who the sage is in relation to the character accompanying you.
What do you expect them to do?
They should have made arrows fusible in bundles or select favorite items for fusing. It really is annoying cycling through your entire inventory.

Does Monster Hunter count as open-world? Even though theyre mostly just large biomes. Monster Hunter World, I think did it pretty well.

To be fair, I "Stealth Archer" in every single game where it is a possibility. I've done the Dark Souls trilogy and Elden Ring as Stealth Archer (sort of). I played Breath of the Wild as a Stealth Archer, courtesy of my Zelda amiibo and a lot of time spent farming Twilight Bows. There is a special kind of awkwardness that comes from continuing to do the same thing you've always done, except suddenly everyone else is doing it and accusing you of being a bandwagon jumper. Like dude, it was my wagon before it was a bandwagon and I never left!

Yeah I feel the same. The véhicule mechanic can be interesting when solving a environmental puzzle, otherwise I prefer using a horse or just walking around.
Hey I'm the same! I found that if you kinda follow the paths the designers made through the world, it feels much more like old zelda. I found if I flew around all the time then I missed out on a lot of cool little set pieces. Not saying it's the "Right" way to do it, but I find it more fun. And I think a lot of people don't really realize how different the game feels if you do that.
I've been playing another open world game (Skyrim) with a pataglider mod, and it comes with basically infinite Ravioli's Gale that can even be used in midair. Open world loses so much of what makes it good as soon as you can too easily just fly from start to finish and bypass the... open world. I still enjoyed riding my horse around in BotW instead of teleporting, even in the late game. Then again, I know I'm a bit weird. I used to call myself The Walkabout Wizard in MMOs, because I set my character to walk speed and traveled with the power of my boots
I don't think the bits about how weird that there are brown people in Hyrule and satanic imagery are going to help convince people to drop their scores for this game down.

The worst part of this game is that it almost erases botw. Everything is gone and no one cares. Not even Zelda or Link care about anything. Im fine with a reused map but why even have the depths? Why not more towns or caves or literally anything? It was so fucking boring. The very first trip in seems kinda fun but it gets old really fast.

Voiced characters, anime-esque aesthetics, breakable weapons (as the standard), androgynous Link, a magical tablet eerily reminiscent of real-life computer tablets, inventory option-bloat (along with unnecessary HUD clutter), open world for the sake of open world...
Nintendo doesn't realize that too much is too much; people love to defecate on _The Adventure of Link_ because of its difficulty, but it managed to strike a nice balance between details of the world and gameplay despite its limitations. Here's to hoping that this franchise is reset back to its roots.

time travel in a long running series is never a good idea, especially if this results in a retcon of what is already established story.
There are exceprtions to this, but that's if the universe is built on time travel like Dr Who or Trek which has Time travel rules built into it. I don't know much about Zelda though.

Nintendo gets special treatment. If ANY other company tried to release a sequel to an open world game that literally reused the same map from the last game, it would be shit on like there was no tomorrow. It's still a good game, but I just can't get over how lazy it comes across as.
Yeah I don’t think that would be the case considering the complexity that they brought into the game and the physics that barely any game has. Maybe it would have gotten reviewed worse but shit on? I doubt it.
That could be truth if Nintendo pumped this every year, like AC or whatever. Zelda got a free pass this time because, well, it's the first time Nintendo tries an open world game, and in all honesty, they succeed well in doing so with original BOTW, it was a different crop from the rest, so the second one is just the charm. Why redoing the entire same world if it's a direct sequel? The same place changed so drastically? They improved where they saw fit, it's not like they could go much further because Switch limitations anyway.

Especially when Majora's Mask reused way less assets than TotK does and Majora's was only in development for a year.
On top of that, Majora even updated the game engine from Ocarina of Time.

I honestly just wish they made the dungeons more like normal 3D Zelda dungeons. Everything else is fine. Also I wish they used the sky a bit more like the depths.
Hardware limitations, making it as big as the depths would make the game laggy to no end because the sky is loaded in at the same time as the over world, the depths aren’t constantly loaded in unless you’re down there where the over world and sky aren’t loaded in
@@themaskedspirit It is nonetheless a critique of the game. I find the sky islands a bit sparse as well. If the game had no physical limitations, I'm sure that having a more expanded map would make the experience of exploring even better.
@@abby_babber why make a critique of a game that can’t be made into a reality at all, if they make the sky expansive like the depths there would be the critique of lag, the sky islands were already huge as is too, with sky dungeons spanning over 2000 in height with enemies, puzzles and extra goodies to be found

It's unreasonable to make a critique on something that is very well not within the limitations of the hardware and the developers. As is, the game experience with the sky islands is definitely better than just having the base land of Hyrule from BOTW. You do bring up a good point though and it's not something that a lot of people consider when factoring in their hopes and dreams for a game they like. People like to pipe dream about a game's features and set themselves up for disappointment when in the end, the game doesn't meet their incredibly reaching standards.

If you're american like me, you've no doubt seen how american animation on tv, most of which is for children, has become predatory in recent years, well that's precisely because the autistic, queer cartoonists have nowhere else to get paid for their art. Nintendo has always been self-limiting so it's no wonder they've resorted to pandering to mentally ill western young folk with zelda. It would be completely different if they embraced the celtic roots, the grim tone everyone embraced at spaceworld 2000, and made the puzzle-gameplay more compliacted so as not to be ready-made quick-dope for the slackjawed "casual gamer" who can't be bothered to apply himself to something he inevitably spends too much time on anyway.
People actively work against their own self-interests because they're not equipped to do anything else. That underlies the situation that could be more crudely put as, "it could have been great, but how do you advertise that?"

I just can't stand the combat. I don't see the fun in having to skip small fights and mini bosses so I don't break all of my weapons.
i dont like weapons breaking either, but honestly it's not as bad as people make it out to be. That being said however, I wish the weapons didnt break THIS FAST, especially those cool weapons you get from side quests. Like the deity sword for example, it took me forever to get it, then it broke after 10 hits, which sucks major balls.
Then don’t? Kill mini bosses and enemies to get strong fuse parts lmao. You get so many strong parts just from going out of your way to kill whatever you can find

@@TheEmperorRaidou I mean you still need to actually kill strong enemies to get strong fuses. Main reason why is because the weapons in this game are all worse at base stats, but you get most of your power from the fusing. And picking harder fights means better monster parts. Like or don’t like the game I don’t really care but it’s kind of dumb to say that you dont like having to skip enemies out of fear of losing better weapons then backpedal and say you want to skip enemies for that reason lol.

Are you serious?? TP is one of the easiest Zelda games ever. The enemies only do one strike and if it gets blocked, they patiently wait for you to end them. The bosses are even easier. God, there's a boss that doesn't even harm you... At all. At least Skyward Sword's villains and bosses felt more alive.

Yes, the sword moves you learn are cool, but you can go all the way through the game's story without using them because almost every enemy can be killed just by mindless slashing. IMO, Skyward Sword is the one game where the combat feels good (if you're fine with the motion controls)

I just realized that the starfield gun in the beginning playing in the background was a bethesda reskin of the institute rifle . This is going to be a reskin of fallout 4 with extra steps

I always liked Wind Waker’s story. It was just about some random guy who displayed enough bravery to be worthy of being the successor to OoT Link. He wasn’t the chosen one, but earned the right through hard work and determination.
I also loved Ganondorf’s character in WW. He’s the same guy from OoT. He’s tired and more mature but still has the violent and scheming tendencies of his younger self from OoT.
Tetra was cool too, her mischievousness and leadership and especially with the way she subtly shows that she knows more than she lets on.
That is, until the whole Demise thing happened and Link, Zelda and Ganondorf are just the reincarnations of the original Skyward Sword counterparts.
Wind Waker is a great game.

This and BotW seem identical. Even though Majora's Mask looked the same as Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask seemed to be the most unique. Not sure the same could be said for Phantom Hour Glass and Spirit Tracks, but at least both had memorable tunes.
I wonder if Majora's Mask wouldn't have been better off as a brand new IP. Then we could have had sequels of the same idea, a time-traveling hero that pieces together a series of timelines to avoid some major catastrophe. This premise would allow said hero to be in many settings, many eras, Nintendo could have milked it for at least a dozen installments. But because it was forced to be born as a Zelda game, they can't go back to that formula without the accusations of being unoriginal.

I wish they did dungeon like they did in Ocarina of Time. and have more temples remove the shrines. Maybe add the shirnes as a way of entering the the major shirne.
Honestly Shrines were so bad. It wouldve been even better if they had a variety of extra long dungeons peppered through Hyrule condensing all of the shrine puzzles into lengthier but far less grindier mega shrines and focused on creating more random encounters and side quests that further gave the player the chance to experiment with the open world. Its really a hassle knowing youre traveling to the next innocuous puzzle shrine with loading cutscenes, etc
I love the shrines because I dislike puzzles. I’m good at them, but I still find them annoying. I like to do puzzles when I feel like doing them, not as a forced method to progress through the game.
No game is a true "Masterpiece" because no game is perfect but games like this get that title because how fun, interesting, and well designed they are.

the whole point of weapons breaking was making people use different ones. now people just use the same most powerful ones. so much for using different weapons.
It was fine for me in BOTW, in TOTK Fusing becomes a chore, and the silver enemy has so much HP it becomes tiresome. I just used dupe technique near the end of the game so I can fuse the strongest one to fight faster, still feels like it takes to long to kill those with a maxed weapon.
