  • Join me as I ride from San Jose Diridon to Lexington Reservoir along the Los Gatos Creek Trail-an unexpectedly diverse route! The start of the trail passes through some industrial areas and homeless encampments, which can be a bit smelly and might feel off-putting, but bike lanes are generally available and I felt safe keeping a watchful eye on traffic.
As I continued through Campbell toward Los Gatos, I noticed my GPS showing parts of the route below sea level-definitely a surprise. Once in Los Gatos, the trail transitions to a short gravel section before the climb up Old Santa Cruz Highway to Lexington Reservoir. The redwoods and hillside views are gorgeous, but the descent on gravel can be rough if you’re not used to it-take it slow and steady.
In the end, this ride offers a little bit of everything: city streets, trail sections, gravel, hills, and scenic vistas. Taking the train to start the adventure was also convenient. If you’re curious about discovering new pockets of the Bay Area by bike, this route has some real gems along the way-just be prepared for a few urban surprises at the start!
