What a concise , well executed solo. A story. Everything a drum solo should be. Musical and not lacking in technical, rudimentary practice. What respect I have for this woman.
BRAVO!!!!! She systematically demonstrates her mastery of every aspect of the drum kit solo, the most complex percussion art in nthe world. It requires the ability to play a different rhythm with each had and foot yet make the compliment each other in a polyrhythmic statement. A virtuosso performance!
Shes playing traditional as well unlike most drummers play match grip and the fact the she is able to do that already makes her better then most of the male drummers because they use match grip
Why does playing traditional grip makes you a better drummer? for me the grip is just another tool that you can use if you know it, but how good you are should be measured on your technique and creativity, not your grip.
Drummers has the right to express trough solos, as any other musician...music is an art to express ourselves, with or without band. If you dont like to hear something, is very simple. Just dont hear it at all (is what I do with songs I dont like :) But saying a drum solo is like any other drum solo is just the same that saying a human is like any other human...only shows the lack of understanding of some people about humans or solo drumming.
I take it you've never seen Benny Greb? One of the few that can play a long solo and keep me interested the whole time. In general I kinda agree though, would much rather see a drummer play along to something like Gavin Harrison on 19 days.. Now that is an example of drumming perfection IMO.. :p
If you've heard one drum solo you've heard them all. Random toms played quickly. Check. Lots of paradiddles and rolls on the snare. Check. Quiet interludes with ghost notes on the snare and jazzy patterns on the ride. Check. Nothing against Cindy personally but as someone who plays the drums I'd much rather see her play with a band. Drum solos suuuuuuuck.
Actually quite special. She's good regardless of gender. Her solo records are full of pretty solid Tony Williams-style bop playing (Her instructional video is a great view into this as well.). Her solos (like most drum solos by any drummer) aren't terribly engaging, but she is a smoking player/accompanist.
Superb, no auto cymbal smash for 4 minutes. A true drummer
Holy mother of all goodness. Here is an incredible drummer.
One of the best sounding kits ever
My opinion is that Cindy Blackman opened the door for woman drummers across the world!!
Me encanta su forma de tocar. Exelente.
She is a Goddess of drums.
amazing, musical, i have no words. she is from a galaxy far far away. away more beautiful.

Seems to me Cindy Blackman has gotten both technique and creativity down very well.
+Sergio Jimenez i'm agree, drumming is about feeling and groove

the snare drum sounds awful. One of those boxy Gretsch models.

What the hell. Choppy and sloppy. Sounds like a kids first time on a new kit. Embarrassing!!!!
