This was my first Phish show. Completely random day the girl I was talking to was like let's just go to Chicago. When we showed up I saw a Dead shop and was like babe we gotta stop. The girl there told us Phish was playing that night. I ended up getting some tabs from some strangers and two years later we've become such close friends! I rember just standing there during this song with tears rolling down my cheeks thinking that this might be one of the best moments in my life.
Lol it's funny it's usually either that or you wake up the next day like wtf was that lol. I took a buddy last year he ate boomer for the first time and he kept saying he couldn't tell if it was real or a dream but when I asked if he wanted to go the next night he was na I don't think so haha.
yes, and no the true the true reason they are incredible is not a single guys contribution.... its the way the four of them communicate and play if you were to take away one of them the magic may never happen.....
And now a week later. I just don't tire of this song..or this band...this band is grand...Thanks to my son Curran for turning me on to this music of which I can now not get enough...Aggghhhhhh
Trust me I love a simple from 1.0. Especially 10-31-96 and the ambient feel of 11-21-98.That's a matter of opinion. I'm not debating eras of phish that's silly. All I'm saying is they sound really good.
What an incredible jam. I've rarely heard one that was so cohesive, with ideas that are allowed to spread out and develop. It feels very epic and multifaceted, like a suite, with a logical conclusion. Phish never fails to amaze me.
Agreed. I think their writing and producing is not what it used to be, but their live performances ever exceeding in quality and depth!!! I'll take it, though I would love another newbie that ranks up there with songs like Reba, YEM, David Bowie and many of their early originals that bring intricate juxtapositions of composition and improvisation.
Uh, put on a show from '92-'96 and try saying that honestly. They're more seasoned and mature in their cohesive feel but there's no denying the fire, creative urgency and meticulous musicianship of 1.0.
Had a blast getting down to this the tension was there when the timber teases rolled around. It was a huge sweaty can of phish people vibin. Fantastical show that’s for damn sure
that whole day was amazing. the skyline at night was breathtaking especially during cities. dosed and full on grilled cheese. forgetting where the parking garage was. fun times. and the waffle house the next morning, laughing about shit that happened at the show and getting salty they didn't play timber. oh and whoever gave me mushies for my bday, thank you! glad you also found you're van.
That’s all the director for Live Phish video. I forgot his name, but he’s been calling the camera shots, or controlling the switcher board himself, for years, so he he knows the tunes now.
Still have total luv for these soldiers, after all of this time they're still the truth. Phish is total unit that always sound good cause they are expert craftsmen, some might not realize it but dog they came from the school of hard knocks.
So true. My wife and I have been on "Bed Tour" , streaming the shows from our bed. Only we never make it past the 1st set without falling asleep. No drinking, no smoking, no dancing- just exhausted from kids.
me and my buddy tripping and the jam got crazy he turns to me and says "Dude WERE ABOUT TO GET FUCKING DOOoooooowwwwnn" i just laughed and threw my hands up in the air greatest time of my life was at this show. *edit* i was so fucking ready for timber! like they put the timber tip in me and pulled out
yeah, i stopped listening because the harmonies were horrible the first minute. i've heard way better recordings of this song and always thought Phish had awesome harmonies. it's like someone was way flat and didn't realize it...rough indeed. i'll listen to it again to see if the jam makes up for it :)
Who the fuck listens to phish for the harmonies?? ...lol....i mean dont get me wrong i like a good harmony but phish hasn't been killing it for over 30 years because of their lyrics, vocals, or harmonies...
I've actually heard that they stream every show but not everyone gets to see them. Most of the people who get the streams are friends and family, who don't have to pay to watch their loved ones play. Would make a lot of sense. But if they would just let me pay for every one I would pay for every one!!
The Merry Pranksters had this idea of group mind where they could stand in a cluster and bounce super balls, with each hand catching or releasing a ball, all the balls in constant motion and none being lost. This is what Phish does onstage.
Simple is my undisputed favorite Phish song...That is of course unless I am arguing with myself. But what would be the point of doing that...I'd win anyway...Thanks to my son Curran, a fan longer than I for turning me on to the hardest working band in music today...Blessings from Ed, a relatively newer (10 years or so) Phish Phan...
I was there. This was truly outstanding. However, I gotta get this off my chest. There were A LOT of people talking non stop throughout the show. Either stay home or STFU. Thanks. Ain't no time to hate.
FluffityAntelope yeah fish was going for timber i believe. he started banging toms and i think it was a conscious decision on treys part to keep it "simple" ;) but yeah thousands of us heard the potential for the timber hoooooo
Could've been jamming in a different key. Trey might have considered it and knew there was no harmonic path to Timber, and thought "we could screw up this jam or play an awkward Timber or just keep going with this great jam". If so, great choice.

If you had a band, and you had Cym-bop-and-pip-a-phone-sky-balls-and-sax-scrapers, and you decided to do a cover of this "Simple" song, so you spent 10 minutes quickly rehearsing it for the first time, it might sound a lot like this.

it was :)
Yeah that’s a perfect day.
@@Dharmabrot came to say exactly the same!
Lol it's funny it's usually either that or you wake up the next day like wtf was that lol. I took a buddy last year he ate boomer for the first time and he kept saying he couldn't tell if it was real or a dream but when I asked if he wanted to go the next night he was na I don't think so haha.
This jam NEVER feels like 27 minutes. What a masterpiece of a jam
41 minute Simple at Alpine Valley 7/27/24. This band continues to evolve to undiscovered boundaries 🙌🙌❤️
The relentless, stubbornness of Fishman to keep hammering home the groove and not ever giving up is what makes Phish so incredible.
yes, and no the true the true reason they are incredible is not a single guys contribution.... its the way the four of them communicate and play if you were to take away one of them the magic may never happen.....
easily one of the most underrated drummers out there...
He lives in the pocket
fishman slaps saves lifes
You're exactly on point.
He's the MVP of so many of my favorite jams.
His gebänle work with Page @ about 8:35 is sublime, too.
And now a week later. I just don't tire of this song..or this band...this band is grand...Thanks to my son Curran for turning me on to this music of which I can now not get enough...Aggghhhhhh
When Trey said "DIDDLEdiddle~DIDDLEdiddle~DIDDLEdiddle~DIDDLEdiddle~" i felt that
how can they be so creative so consistently????????
This is why we still see this band. They aren't without a little rust, but the magic is still there.
EMF Minimalist no rust here pal this grade a goodness on any level
Jim Nasium they are rusty pal, any Simple from 94-97 blows this one out of the water.
Trust me I love a simple from 1.0. Especially 10-31-96 and the ambient feel of 11-21-98.That's a matter of opinion. I'm not debating eras of phish that's silly. All I'm saying is they sound really good.
not singing your parts, singing out of key, and singing the wrong words count as rust. so there is some amount of rust.
I could be wrong but if your here listening to a 27 minute long simple your not really here for the singing.. but point taken I get it.
62 shows later still the best simple I’ve ever seen and one of my favorite jams of all time. This was probably my 6 or 7th showb
My favorite Phish song done superbly!!!
I think you have the longest history of UA-cam comments based around Phish. I mean that in the nicest way by the way. Super fan status. Nice work!
I really like the Live sounding stuff.
What an incredible jam. I've rarely heard one that was so cohesive, with ideas that are allowed to spread out and develop. It feels very epic and multifaceted, like a suite, with a logical conclusion. Phish never fails to amaze me.
yes I was at this show Yes my face melted yes I love The Phish
Seeing my first phish show tonight!
have fun
This is what we do!!! Finest one timer out there after all these years.....This fits the bill of top 10 all timers
they still got it man, in some ways they are even better honestly!
sober HOSE is real
Hell ya they still got it!
Uh, put on a show from '92-'96 and try saying that honestly. They're more seasoned and mature in their cohesive feel but there's no denying the fire, creative urgency and meticulous musicianship of 1.0.
Trey without opiates is great
first time hearing this is “now” in 2022. what an absolute monsterpiece!
Thank you for rockin all these years. Can't wait to see a show one day
Update: bought the 3 day Alpine Valley pass! Can't wait to see youu guys this summer 2022!!!!!

I frikkin' love this band.

Is that Ginsburg
That was pure magic! The masters at play! Loving the lights! This is gonna be a good summer tour! Thanks for playing again, guys! We love you!
Thank you, Phish, for sharing your pro shot video of this!

that whole day was amazing. the skyline at night was breathtaking especially during cities. dosed and full on grilled cheese. forgetting where the parking garage was. fun times. and the waffle house the next morning, laughing about shit that happened at the show and getting salty they didn't play timber. oh and whoever gave me mushies for my bday, thank you! glad you also found you're van.
Nice amazing musicians
insane jam, very timberish around the 15 min mark
Ok but can we talk about the video guy showing a building at the skyscraper lyric at 2:55
That’s all the director for Live Phish video. I forgot his name, but he’s been calling the camera shots, or controlling the switcher board himself, for years, so he he knows the tunes now.
Truly a magical Phish moment.
Still have total luv for these soldiers,
after all of this time they're still the truth. Phish is total unit that always sound good cause they are expert craftsmen, some might not realize it but dog they came from the school of hard knocks.
18:13 Mike wore blue lipstick to show support for Phans who were lost to having too much nitrous. Pretty cool of him.
you mean pretty cold of him?
Mike is a groove god
great shows the simple was crazy
Don't forget to wash your hands after listening to this. Because this jam is filthy. 12:35
I washed my ears and hair.
I washed out my toe jam to this jam.
I washed my ya know what...
that growl that trey lets out at 13:38 is gnarly
Tim Brown rrrrrrraaawwwwwwrrr!!!
You know kids run your life, when you've been following a band for 20 years and had no idea the tour started... :(
This ^
So true. My wife and I have been on "Bed Tour" , streaming the shows from our bed. Only we never make it past the 1st set without falling asleep. No drinking, no smoking, no dancing- just exhausted from kids.
Shoulda slapped a rubber on it!
^Tipher.. Hahahahahaha!!!
Melissa Clark thanks, I just sent my request to join! Finally a group that combines 2of my 3 favorite things! Phish and being a dad!
Great quality!
so good
me and my buddy tripping and the jam got crazy he turns to me and says "Dude WERE ABOUT TO GET FUCKING DOOoooooowwwwnn" i just laughed and threw my hands up in the air greatest time of my life was at this show. *edit* i was so fucking ready for timber! like they put the timber tip in me and pulled out
Fuck yeah! That's the spirit.
Yes, Sir! Truth.
Plain & simple ... i love music
The guitar tone at 13 minutes got me harder than trigonometry
same
Those deep low notes that Trey pulls from the depths of Earth. Beautiful 🤙
Was at this show...eyes got a little wet at 23:10 Amazing night.
Who's watchin this in 2018? Best Simple!!!
BD 2017 or Hampton 2018
13:37 mark gives me wicked goosebumps. That little cock back and release thing trey does with Fish RIGHT ON TOP of it.
here’s the wind up… and the pitch…fishman hits a line drive right up the middle!
14:09-14:30 is a nice little "The Dogs" tease.
Dang!... ☝✌
I know there's probably some doubters but this is a fucking unbelievable version of Simple
yeah, i stopped listening because the harmonies were horrible the first minute. i've heard way better recordings of this song and always thought Phish had awesome harmonies. it's like someone was way flat and didn't realize it...rough indeed. i'll listen to it again to see if the jam makes up for it :)
This jam is so tasty.

Oh my trey, it's absolutely brilliant and my my mastic
Hoooooo!! Lord, have mercy!!!!
!!!!!!!!
str8 up
Thank you!
man this great
"nah, there isnt a webcast for tonight's show, but we will be recording it..."
Exactly what the fuck I just said!!!
Josh Bigbee personally, I think that they're recording everything for future video releases.
It was for the jumbotrons for the lawn crowd.
I've actually heard that they stream every show but not everyone gets to see them. Most of the people who get the streams are friends and family, who don't have to pay to watch their loved ones play. Would make a lot of sense. But if they would just let me pay for every one I would pay for every one!!
I love treys smile at 22:50. Hes almost like hey ive caught on to something here
heck yeah!!

chompers... chompers everywhere
BizarreIoveTriangle I know... it's disappointing
Jason Speth not where I was standing, but usually direct center people are there to hear music. I actually ask people to not talk.
yeah. nothing you can do these days. the conversation is more important than the awesome music the boys are throwing down. Priorities.
This is why you go on Sunday instead of Saturday
I want to be back in MSG in this jam again. Just live inside this jam forever.
14:57 could have gone right into Timber (Jerry) or are my ears bad?
FluffityAntelope i was going to comment on that . your right its a timber tease
Definitely brought it back round a bit;) I heard a lil sicket in there also;,)
You're not alone. Everyone was thinking it. I'm sure Trey was like, no let's keep this going.
FluffityAntelope yeah fish was going for timber i believe. he started banging toms and i think it was a conscious decision on treys part to keep it "simple" ;) but yeah thousands of us heard the potential for the timber hoooooo

12:35 - 15:00 is the bizness!
Fuckin HOSE!!!!
I'd say the biz extends way past 15:00. IMO it goes to about 18:30. And Mike is killin it around 19:00ish
Oh my sweet lord that's dirty stinky biss at 15.00 to 19.00. Business season is open my friends

Timber tease at 15:00
anyone hear some chalkdust licks from IT around the 8:00 min mark
Thumbs up
outstanding shows. however we moved several times due to what I like to call the "Chad Guido" factor.
What is a band without saxophone?
23:59-24:22. I cried
Was I the only one that kept waiting for them to go into Undermind? It would have been effing flawless at 15:00
As the kids are saying this jam is f'n lit.
SO glad the LED screens are gone!!
My husband was/ is there now. said the show was sick!
Trey's digital delay jam at 17:00!!
PRETTAH PRETTAH GOOD
If you had a band, and you had Cym-bop-and-pip-a-phone-sky-balls-and-sax-scrapers, and you decided to do a cover of this "Simple" song, so you spent 10 minutes quickly rehearsing it for the first time, it might sound a lot like this.
It’s the joint!
Too early to talk jam of the year? Good god I'm exciting for baker's dozen.
si
Timothy DeSario I'm going to bakers dozen too. So fucking stoked after watching this
far too early, this year is gonna be huge...even if the jams stopped it would have been a great year, but I don't think they will
agreed!!!!!!!
Isn't that awesome to say. 5 shows into tour and jam fulfillment has been met. Love it. 13 more to go!
Am I the only one that wanted 13:40 to go into a straight slamming four-on-the-floor explosion??
