- This year I have boys in 6th grade, 4th grade and a 1st grade. I’m still putting together most of our curriculum, except for a few subjects. And as far as schedule I’m keeping things pretty much the same except for a few changes:
Less family-style learning and more independent learning.
I’m trying out SYLLABIRD to plan and schedule our lessons.
I enrolled the boys in classes with Charlotte Mason Simple Languages.
____
Topics We’re Studying this year:
Civil War, reconstruction, and the remainder of the 19th century for American History.
Meadows/grasslands for nature study
Chemistry, electricity, and botany for science (I still use and love the guides from Sabbath Mood Homeschool!)
Antarctica and Arctic for geography.
Written narration with my two oldest boys (using The Writing Revolution and Know and Tell)
I’m using Charlotte Mason Elementary Arithmetic for math, as well as CTC Math for my oldest.

I came back to this video because I REALLY value your outlook and grasp of Charlotte Masons principles! I am so anxious to steer away from the curriculum workbook route and to start truly loving learning with my kids.
I would really love to see how you organize and prepare your lessons and to see overall your homeschool rhythm with your kids. This is my first year with 3 kiddos to teach and it’s been really challenging. Excited to continue to learn through you! ❤
I am very excited to see how well your channel takes off and actually homeschooling along side you!
Wonderful video ❤please do share how you incorporated the 2 books on movement and how you set up the motor lab 😊
Thank you! I’ll make you ASAP!
I hope you have a great year!
Once again, Charlotte Mason was right! The slightly older kids really do need more independence, even if we feel like family-style will be easier all around.
Thank you! I hope you have a great year as well!
Yes interested with hearing all about the books!
Yes, I would love to see a video on those two books you mentioned!
Very interested in the brain exercises and motor lab just to get an idea of what it is and how you implement it. We homestead so chores are our break. 😂
I can't wait to see the motor lab and hear more about the two books associated!
Lovely ideas! ❤ We are doing history starting with our state (lots about the Oregon trail and Lewis and Clark this year) and then expanding to the country, then world history.
Good luck on the 24-25 homeschool year ❤
I’d love to see how you set up the movement room for brain balancing exercises! So glad I stumbled across this channel. ❤
I love seeing all the good books you use and the restaurant menu idea is genius. We're excited to try the nature study by Beautiful Feet Books. We got some books ourselves and will check some out from the library!
Thank you for all the information! I’m interested in seeing a video on the two books you mentioned as well. I’ve got two early elementary boys with ADHD and it’s be extremely helpful. Thanks again!
The Video is now available!
Great video! Love all your curriculum picks! I’ve added a few of your book selections to my Amazon cart! 😄
Glad you liked it! And I hope you enjoy the books 📚❤️
Yes subscribed for the brain exercise books!
Great idea on the history time period! Now that you suggest to just keep going until it is finished it seems like an obvious solution 😅
Right? I don’t know why, but I struggled so much with it. Especially trying to arbitrarily divide different historical time periods into school years, and each time period has varying amounts of knowledge to learn and varying lengths of books, which made it hard to divide them evenly into years or terms 🤯 just continuing onto the next time period and book when we finish one has brought so much peace and simplicity!
I’m very interested in the movement books/ lab you mentioned! My son also has ADHD and I haven’t heard if those books (and I know about a LOT of books about ADHD and homeschooling, lol), I definitely want to check them out! Great video overall, it’s nice to see how you modify things (LOVE the hero stories of First Nations idea!)
It’s mind boggling how many books there are on ADHD! I’ll get that video out ASAP. Thanks for watching!
Yes on the books!
Very interested in the motor lab. What an awesome idea! Do you have links to those books?
Would love to see a syllabird video also how does this differ from the simply charlotte mason organizer? And yes on the video for bright kids😊
I wasn’t aware that SCM makes an organizer. I’ll check it out!
@@simplewondersacademy also we are doing the same thing for history and also starting with the civil war, I'm using Without Doors. I think it's awesome you prayed about it, I think a lot of us say to ourselves it's silly and then choose not to pray about it or just dismiss it. Thank you for your perspective on everything.
Books look amazing!
Would love a video on Bright kids and primitive reflex as we are currently doing this as well. Where did you find these books?
When Bright Kids Can’t Learn was used from thriftbooks.com and Ready Bodies, Learnint Minds was from the website readybodieslearningminds.com
Your videos are so helpful!
Looking forward for the brain exercise book video 😊
It’s been out for a couple weeks, have you seen it yet?
Would love all the video choices you mentioned. What is your 6th grader using for geography? What literature will you be using?
All my kids learn about different continents each year after first grade. So this year we’re learning about Antarctica and the Arctic. It works well because two major explorations of those regions (Robert Peary to North Pole and Shackleton to South) happened during the time period well studied this year in history. We’re reading books about those explorations as well as documentaries. Human Planet and Frozen Worlds.
As for literature, my 6th grader is reading Tom Sawyer. It’s a little challenging, but he’s loving Twain’s wit and humor 😆
@@simplewondersacademymy 7th grader will be reading that this year so glad to hear this! 😊
Very interesting
Hi! Thanks for this video. Are you doing just American history this year? I have a hard time doing 3 streams of history. I wonder if you decided to keep just one stream.
Oh man, I tried doing 3 streams of history and also felt overwhelmed! We couldn't finish an entire spine in one term, and I felt anxious leaving off a third of the way through the book. Right now we are studying American and world history 1870ish-present time. We study American and then the same time period in world history. Next year we start at the beginning with ancient civilizations for my older boys, I'll continue with American for my 7 year old. He'll join in with the rest of the cycle when he's 10.
Wonderful recommendations. Thank you! Do you have an Amazon shop or current “shopping page” of resources you recommend?
I do! I forgot to add the link to my video description. I’ll do that now 👍
Hi!
Could you share how do uou do your music classes?
Thank you*
I start with Sing Solfa lessons (www.singsolfa.com) in kindergarten or first grade. Once they finish all 5 units I continue on with piano lessons, around 7-8 years old. I’m currently using Piano Safari and really like it. Most importantly my boys like it!
