Public ed kindergarten teacher here! Stumbled onto your channel and agree with a lot of things in your video. I so so wish we were allowed to keep some kiddos in pre-k an extra year, some of them just need that extra time to grow and come into their own before kindergarten. And foster a love of reading, yes! (We were literally told by higher ups "It doesn't matter if they enjoy reading, that's not the goal," which was *very* upsetting to my team of veteran teachers). I have never heard of Charlotte Mason, but I really approve of the phonics progression you discuss in this video (there's a lot of "educator" videos on reading that seem to have no actual research or good practices). Keep up the good work helping all those home schooling families!
Kids don't need to be held back. Instead, America needs to raise the age to start school to age 6 like Europe. Let the children play, and at age 6, most will be ready to learn. This system forces kids to learn at an early age things that they would easily learn if they're a year or two older. Their brains are not ready; that's part of the reason so many kids have anxiety related to school.
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment! Studying the research and science of reading is one of my passions🤓 it’s so fascinating to me, and so disappointing there are so many public and home educators that don’t take the time to do that research. It makes all the difference when you instill a love of reading first, then methodically lay the foundation of skills they need to successful sound out words. You sound like one of those passionate, knowledgeable teachers that makes a difference your students’ lives ❤️ thanks for all you do!
Thank you soooo much for this!! I applied your lesson to both my boys and we all loved the approach! This will be a such game changer for us! Thank you!!!!
Hi Jessica! I have been wanting to write you/or at the minimum leave you a comment for a little while now (time gets away from us busy mothers at times though doesn't it haha!) I just want to say what an invaluable resource this video is (for me at least) and all of your content. You truly have a gift for teaching (including other mother-teachers such as myself) and children...a bit of a modern-day Mason yourself I think 🙂 Thank you, if you ever decide to make a Patreon account or something, I think that would be a great idea as you truly ad so much value in this community. God's richest blessings for you and your beautiful family. Love from, Steph (from Australia!)
Oh my goodness, Steph🥰 thank you so much for your kind words! I love knowing that my videos are helping other mammas, and messages like keep me going! I do have a Patreon, and the last two months I've shared videos showing what each stage of the reading process looks like (my 6 year old graciously helped me out☺)
@@simplewondersacademy You are most welcome and deserving! You truly have such a gift! I cannot believe I didn't notice your Patreon before ( how embaressing for me to not even look properly haha!). I have now subscribed ! 🙂 Love, Steph
Oh darn, Thanks for letting me know! The editing app I use has a function that unmutes a clip if I split it up, and sometimes I miss those little clips even after doing a final edit.

This stage makes a huge difference. Good luck!

Your videos are so helpful, thank you for sharing this knowledge and wisdom!
This is great! Some of the audio is overlapping though.

Can you link the Tomie dePaola book? I found the one of Mother Goose rhymes on Amazon, but I'm not sure it's the one you showed. Thanks.
Yes! Here’s my Amazon associates link:
www.amazon.com/dp/0399212582/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_RTZPN5FN1193Y7624NYA?linkCode=ml2&tag=simplewonde0d-20
Where can you get coppies of Charlotte Mason's books?
You can buy them on Amazon, Living Books Press, or read them for free on amblesideonline.org
Where did you get the first reader?
I got it on Amazon 👍
What font do you use to print the words for the reading lesson? Do you think using the typical "a" for typed fonts is confusing?
I do think it can be confusing at first, but my boys seem to figure it out. I use Comfortaa font for word sorts.
Hi … What is the reader you used in this video?
Reading Literature Primer or First Reader (I can’t remember which!)
Excellent video
Thank you!
