Any thoughts on the Lanshan tent range?
I've got the Onetigris Tangram which is a take on the Lanshan 2. I've been wanting to get the normal Lanshan 1 in sand because I'm a bit put off by the condensation just being there on the single skin without anything to stop it dropping on my stuff.
I find the Lanshan 1 pitches better than the one they copied (SMD Luanar) 😂. Used My lanshan a couple of times and it held well under heavy rain showers so no complaints there .
Howdy Simon, I have to Lanshan 2 & the 2 pro.....the clear winner is the regular Lanshan 2. Everyone underestimates the condensation in tents. It is an absolute nightmare in the pro’s. The pro’s are essentially just tarp tents as there is no protection from the wind, they are sooo much colder. I just wish the regular Lanshans had the reinforcements on the ridge & corners, and the slightly better Material like the Pro. I have the 4 season and it is fantastic. it is actually lighter than the 3 season! A big fella like you should have opted for the 2 over the 1. The weight difference is minimal but the space is double. ***SPOILER ALERT*** There is a new 2021 Lanshan 2 out now that is even bigger and exactly the same weight as the older one. Cheers for keeping the vids coming during lockdown.
@@newforestgump8926 interesting!
Could you please tell me how tall you are to get a reference if it would be a good fit for me as a large guy?
Hi Simon great video - you've got another subscriber! Keep those videos coming!
I've got the Lanshan 1 Plus (2021 version with the larger inner). I love the look of the pro but went for the plus as it costs less, only weighs 70g more, has taped seams, the outer can be used as a UL shelter (425g), the inner can be used in other tarps (MLD Trailstar), and the inner and the outer can be packed away separately.
Thanks mate, I hope it goes well with the 1 Plus. Looks very versatile, Si
Nice one Simon. For me it would have to be the lanshan 2, i'm a bugger for space haha. Great in depth review mate 🙂👍
Agree with you there mate! And it’s still super light. Have a good week buddy 👍🏻
i can't believe i watched an entire COMPARISON video about 2 products only for you to admit you have never used one of the two 40 seconds before closing the video
You must be gutted Nasim, better luck sourcing your videos next time :)
Great review Simon, really like how you give the pro’s and the con’s. Please keep the reviews coming, one day soon we will be allowed back out! Cheers!
Cheers John, much appreciated. Take care mate 👍🏻
Great tent imo (condensation is a pain like you say tho) can’t wait do get it out again. 👍🏼
Good vid mate

Cheers man, me too! Have a good week dude 👍🏻
Thanks Simon. Great review. I have been looking for such a LW tent and will consider this one in the mix. All the best and cheers mate. D
Many thanks Dazza, hope you’re still enjoying some sun. Take care mate
Nice review Simon. Thanks. I have the Lanshan 2 with both the three and four season inners. 120 centimetres wide, level head height from front to back and two vestibules. Fantastic tent and no condensation issues so far (as it is a two wall tent, so that helps). Very light too as it is just over 1.1 kilos. However I’m 6 foot, so I don’t need the extra length that the pro versions provide and probably you need. I like the flexibility of having two inners. The 3 season can be a bit draughty in windy weather. So the option of a four season inner for cold and windy nights is a godsend. Also the Lanshan 2 only needs seam sealing at the head and foot mid-fly tie out points. That only takes a few minutes to do. So if you are 6 foot or under and you are not bothered about the extra couple of hundred grams, I would personally recommend the 2 wall Lanshan. Ps. I also bought the footprint as it not only protects the bathtub floor but it keeps it clean, so it’s less messy to breakdown the tent after camping. Also a correctly sized footprint is best as one too large can funnel water under the bathtub. Hope this helps.
This is brilliant thanks Ivor, definitely very helpful. Particularly the tip around the footprint. These things can get messy! Have a good evening, Si
Ok, but how Abt pro version being made from stronger materials?
Great review Simon. Always fancied this tent, I’m hoping to do the WHW this year but I ended up buying the Naturehike Vik2. I’ve only had it up once in the kitchen. Hopeful for some change with current restrictions, I think we all are.
Cheers Derek, the vik2 looks excellent. Good luck with the WHW 👍🏻
Great review Simon. It's lighter than my Dutch Army bivi, and when you view it in that context it makes a lot of sense. I've been thinking about trying one of these out for a while. All the best!👍
Nice one mate, as long as you’re not too tall it’s a winner 👍🏻
If you're still looking for a tent, last year I got the REI Flash Air 2 hybrid tent. It has a mesh interior that is attached to the rainfly, so it's more like a 1.5-wall tent. It stands on two trekking poles or you can use the small ones it comes with. If you use your own, though, the weight is only 31 oz./880 g, you have a 2P-sized floor and don't have to worry about the condensation as much. It retails for $299, but if you're a Co-op member (one time, $20 USD cost) you regularly get 20% off coupons in the mail or email and the REI stuff goes on sale for even more off a couple of times a year. I think I got mine for less than $200.
It's a little more of a process to set up, and stake out but not really difficult.
That's great many thanks mate, I'm UK based and we get import tax of around $100 for tents bought from the US. Are you based in the US? I will take a look and see if it is available here, either way could be a good shout. Many thanks for this buddy, Si
@@SimonOutdoors Yes. I'm in the U.S. I was aware of the huge taxes Scandinavian countries tend to have to pay on things shipped from the U.S. I didn't know the same went with UK. I guess there's really no REI.uk that could be used as a workaround, like with Amazon. I wonder if someone's ripped the design yet. I think it's been around about 18 months.
@@AJHart-eg1ys thanks man, will check it out either way. You guys have some great tents, have the big agnes copper spur on my list! Cheers
@@SimonOutdoors I saw that the 1P of that tent was running around $400 USD so figured I'd offer up that alternative. I'm actually looking to sell my other backpacking tent - a 1P GeerTop trekking pole-supported number. It's okay, but it's basically the Lanshan 1P, pitched in the center, with somewhat limited vestibule space, so basically the entire interior is roughly just bigger than the size of the sleep pad - and I'm only 5'9". It's fine, but I don't sharing my space with a 65L pack. Once I rid myself of that, I just need to get rid of the Marmut hardshell I ordered but doesn't fit (2x) and I'll be good to go. One thing about shopping for hardshells, you learn which companies design for people with shoulders and which do not. 😁
Take care.
@@AJHart-eg1ys 😂😂 fair point there mate! The lanshan 1 P is terrible for a tall person but great for the market overall in my opinion. All the best, Si
Thanks Simon Ill definitely keep this in mind when I do a proper thru hike
No worries mate 👍🏻
I've got this tent and for the money you can't moan. Spent a few nights in it now including several in rain and wind and l've kept dry and the tent has remained stable. Condensation? I'll be honest, l'm a fair weather, south of England csmper so at night (unless its raining heavily, l leave both the inner and the outer partially unzipped to encourage airflow. I also set the walking pole at 130cm to leave a bigger gap between the fly and the inner, again to encourage air flow. I always keep a J cloth handy to wipe down any moisture as it appears. Is this a great ultra light tent? No, but you'd have to pay three or perhaps four times more for something better. In summary, but if you're on a budget l would recommend it.
That’s great thanks Mike, I wouldn’t disagree with too much you’ve said there. For the money it can’t be beaten weight wise perhaps, just not great if you’re tall. Take care, Si
I have one of these and is great summer tent and also perfect for bike packing with a carbon pole as it packs away to nothing. I carry a small cloth to wipe the condensation so haven’t had an issue with wet sleeping bag but it helps that I’m 9” shorter than you! I haven’t tried this but someone suggested using a small hand fan for when it’s wet outside and you have to zip everything up to keep an airflow and manage the moisture. I found that getting the pitch just right so the mesh between the fly and tub is at the right angle is important so that the condensation drains out and not into the tent! It’s pretty well made too, all in all there isn’t much better for the weight to price ratio IMO.
I also have the BA Copper Spur UL2 - my favourite tent by far but it is 4 times the price! Are you looking at the one man version? I think as a tall man you will do better in that as the sides are much more vertical so you have far more headroom and liveable space. The 2 man version manages condensation brilliantly so I assume the one man will be no different.
Looking at either the one or two man mate. Thanks so much for watching Mike and the fan tip is def worth a try 👍🏻
Enjoyed your vid Simon.
Like the weight and bag size, but with all the condensation and having to seam seal.... gonna stick with my Lanshan 2.
...thanks for such a good and honest review.
Keep safe, see you on the trail 😎👍
Thanks for watching Chris, probably a good shout. Take care man
Condensation is a recurring issue and you need to use all the guidelines to improve the inner space. That said, it's a value for money tent. Can you recommend other trekking pole tent for consideration ? thank you for your review.
As it goes that is difficult! I would suggest DAC of course, nothing of low quality
Enjoyed that, very good comprehensive review. I had been looking at these but must say the seam sealing and condensation issues put me off. It's certainly a great lightweight and compact option for multiple day hikes, just not for me. I have too many tents already, lol
Can never have enough mate! Thanks for the ideas on the bag, take care 👍🏻
Great review Simon. Personally, I think it's pretty poor for any manufacturer to not seam seal its products though.
Many thanks Don, I wouldn’t disagree. I think it’s sort of reflected price wise mate 👍🏻
I thought the same thing but after a good look around at the competition it boils down to this for me - would you take like £100-£150 squid from someone to spend an hr or so seam sealing their tent for them? For me anyway, for the weight, the other 'suitable' tents I looked at before buying then Lanshan2 were more in the £300 or up region.
@@EricWilliamson00 Spot on there mate, it's a much lower cost because it needs to be seam sealing. If you want all in and lightweight you will pay more
Nice review Simon, I still have the original double skinned boggie green version. I'm pretty happy with that! Wish they made this colour back then 😕
Ah mate! It’s all swings and roundabouts, nicer colour but the condensations is horrific! Have a good weekend mate 👍🏻 Si
@@SimonOutdoors very true mate. I know they do a double skin version of the khaki now. Enjoyed the video and subscribed!
@@ScoutManSteve many thanks Steve, appreciated 👍🏻
Funny thing is I only bought a Lanshan2 pro because I didn't want to spend on the CopperSpur 2 myself. Hard to find them as well. Thanks for the review, I'm taking the Lanshan2 Pro 4 season on the WHW this year - my main concern is condensation. the 4 season was a mistake in retrospect.
That's a coincidence Eric, I don't think I regret getting the Lanshan 1 Pro so I wouldn't change it but looking forward to the upgrade. You might be ok with the 2 as it may be big enough to avoid you touching the tent walls with any gear. Take care mate
When are your doing the trip mate? All things being ‘normal’
@@SimonOutdoors Thanks Simon, I'm like 5F10 so hopefully I will fit in the tent without any space issues - I might get out this weekend and park pitch it to get a proper look. I'm so bored haha. Glad to hear you are still so positive on the Lanshan after using on the WHW (I liked the 4 part vids on that btw). I'm waiting to do the WHW as soon as they lift any of these lockdowns enough. I'm hoping for mid April maybe. It is going to be glorious when we all get back out there.... when it happens hope you have something planned as well!
@@EricWilliamson00 I know what you mean Eric! I can hardly wait for it to return. Good luck with it mate and always a good idea to test pitch it first. Simon

Considering how light they are I think it's worth getting the 2 person version if budget allows.
Agree, thanks mate 👍🏻
They have launched the Lanshan 1 plus which is the same length as the pro but with an inner tent. It is just under 1 kg as far as i remember

Hi Simon
Copper Spur very nice. I've had the BA Tiger Wall for a couple of years and rate it very highly.
Nice one Ian, thanks mate. Def looking at the copper spur. Hope you’re well
I can see it being a problem finding a tent to suit your height. The Copper Spur ul 1 and ul 2 are 224cm long on the inner tent. Just like the Tiger Wall, the inner walls at the head and foot ends are not that far from vertical, so even adding the depth of a air mattress, you should still fit ok at 195cm.
@@iwalker3809 that’s what I was thinking mate, steep walls coupled with a really good length. 224 is a strange number but I think the 2 person will feel huge with the steep walls. Love the porches on the 2020 onwards model too
@@iwalker3809 perfect thanks mate, I spotted these features and it’s why I’m so excited to get one. I think it will feel huge inside 👍🏻
@@SimonOutdoors There's a lot of mesh on the inner which helps keep the weight down, so not so good for winter but its rated as 3 season. The floor is very thin fabric (weight again) such that u could read a newspaper thro it, but could say same for DCF. All materials are top notch IMHO. Fly is only 1200mm HH so pretty low. Overall, a huge step up from sub £150 tents without going bonkers money on Hilleberg. If I didn't have the Tiger Wall, I'd get a C. Spur in the blink of an eye.
All the best
Hi!) nice video! Hi!) nice video! Which will be better for very tall man?) What you can say about waterproof and reliable
Thanks mate, it needs to be seam sealed before using in the wet weather. It's is not good if you are very tall, say 190cm. Thanks, Si

Nice work Simon , was looking at upgrading my lanshan 1 but I suppose the pro will be similar to my SMD lunar solo for size ? Copper agnes spur looks the biz also . Hope your well atb Dave
Cheers Dave, unsure about the size of the lunar solo but this one is 230cm in length 👍🏻
I used my lanshan 1pro last week had a fair bit of condensation, bottom of my sleeping bag was wet and when packing things away my back and my head was wet lol. I'll try it again in warmer weather if its the same i might sell it which is a shame because it packs down to nothing.
It’s crazy wet, my bag got wet too. It’s a shame, all the best mate
Would having a bin liner to use as like a waterproof sleeping bag sock have been at all useful? In my head that idea sounds workable, but maybe not in practice.
@@EricWilliamson00 I've thought about this too and I don't see why not. A bivouac bag would be best, but they you are looking at more weight but probably not by much
@@EricWilliamson00No certainly not because a bin liner isn't breathable so you'd end up creating condensation on the inside of the bin liner from the heat and moisture you're creating from your sleeping bag. The only way to do it is use a lightweight bivvy bag that's breathable, but this defeats the object of the tent being lightweight, adding another 300-400 grams. Single skin tents are crap, it's a miserable experience being inside a soaking wet tent, having to faff around with a cloth wiping off condensation. Get a lightweight 2 skinned tent and be done with it, the extra weight is definitely worth it!
Looks good I'm still confused as to whether to go for the pro or get the standard to have the dual skin
Entirely your choice mate, good luck with it. Let me know if you would like any more info about the pro. Atb, Si
@@SimonOutdoors Cheers I ended up hitting the button on the standard lanshan to go for the double skin mainly the condensation was putting me off with it. They have made it longer for 2021 apparently too
