I actually came across some dialog between John and Abigail that further suggests Abigail kept hiding the squirrel. When the squirrel turned up missing on the first round, I pushed greet twice when speaking to Abigail and it went along the lines of John: "Have you seen my squirrel? It's not on the mantle." Abigail: "Really? Huh, no I haven't seen it." She says it nervously too.
You’re absolutely right. I was remembering that same conversation while watching this video, I’m surprised it wasn’t mentioned, he’s usually very thorough with all the odds and ends in this game. I actually came on here to post this very thing, glad you remembered it too.
Doesn't she also say how creeped out the squirrel makes her
@@Sean-MacGuire And John's response is "It's ART"
Lmao😂😂😂
Yep, i had the same interaction with Abigail. Never liked Abigail, and even less as she was harassing Mr. Cowboy Squirrel.
The last one makes more sense if you imagine Abigail asking Charles to do her a favor. Lol
Would this happen after he is already gone though?
@@HangOnThereSlick I imagine she says screw it and travels all the way there.
The squirrel came to life powered by the ufo technology and their meeting point is mount shaun.
Either this or Abigail is really an alien😁
@@tommytheshimigami nope. That’s just the appointment for the meeting.
It absolutely blows my mind that this tiny figurine can go missing, and the RDR2 community finds it like a needle in a haystack. It's such a tiny object to hide, I can't even imagine what the first person to find it on Mt. Shann thought!
I didn’t even know you could find it after you find it in the bedroom chest. And I’ve played through 3-4 times.
I didn't even know about this mission!
@@sssbattleaxe I had no idea about it either, I noticed it missing and thought it was a glitch or something lolol
Well, I'm not gonna lie, I looked it up because I got stuck on the birds, while every other before that would come up spontaneously
Maybe the spots are in the official guide of the game
I think everyone knew it was Abigail. I always laugh at the mental picture of Abigail hiking up the mountain. 😂
She could have gotten Charles to do it for her
"Maybe now John will finally give up and let this thing go"
@@sadisticbagel8319 That's my theory. She gives it to Charles and says "Will you get rid of this thing?!" and Charles indulges his inner prankster and puts it in the most ridiculous place he can think of.
I always thought the squirrel was possessed
Yep, my bets are absolutely on Charles.
Originally I wasn't thinking much of it (video game logic), but my partner was watching me play hide-a-squirrel and commented, "Who do you think she hired to get rid of that thing?" Yeah, definitely Charles. 😂
I love that John never comments on it showing up at random places, even just picking it up from the peak of the mountain like it's an everyday occurance
Lol! So wholesome how he keeps silently walking it back to put it over the fireplace
God hunting down some of these animals was a pain, especially the birds. What irked me is that when I was looking for animals that would spawn all the time for me, they wouldn't.
Yeah, algernon wasp mission was a pain in the ass too. Took me more than one month to complete this mission
The game deliberately reduces the chances of whatever animal you need spawning once you have an objective for it, so I always get the animals I know I'll need by looking up guides for them before I start the mission/objective. It makes the exotics side quest much more tolerable.
I'm having that problem right now trying to find a skunk. Literally their spawn rates are next to zero and the ones I do find are all poor quality. Infuriating.
Imagine how it feels to not be able to hunt down Guarma animals because you’re playing post game.
That and specifically the opossum.
I think Mrs. Hobbs is favorite character in the game: part comedian, part sweet old lady, part complete psychopath.
You get the feeling if you weren't helping her with the animals, she might be stitching up the townsfolk to keep her company. Maybe my favorite sidequest character in the entire series.
She disturbs me! Just the fact that she told John that maybe someday when he dies somebody will stuff him and turn him into a statue is just plain creepy 😳
No, it's normal to stuff up animals. They are not worth as much as much as humans. It is also a real professional. There are a lot of stuffed up animals out there. It is an form of art and a nice decoration.
That one was really obvious, if you speak with her every time the squirrel disappears, John will ask her about it and she will lie you while she gets nervous.
My theory for the Mt. Shann location, is that Abigail didn't go out there herself, but instead had it outside the house again and a bird picked it up. The fact that it's at the UFO spot, could be happy coincidence to get you there to see the saucer.
i think its just somebody at rockstar has a fixation of putting things on mountaintops and i actually quite hate it.
@@kosmiqueit’s a great place to put something that’s not too tough. Stashing it in the swamp mud would be cool, but also never be found. People wouldn’t commonly think to check somewhere grand and yet still far. Like a mountain. But they’d still check it before anything else crazy
When I first finished A Better World, a New Friend, I calculated the game's sales and the percentage of people who'd gotten the achievement and, for a little while, I was in a very small club of fewer than 1,000 people. It felt magical that Rockstar had put so much work into a questline that so few people would bother with, and John's words resonated with me. "It's... ART."
I am playing the games story mode for a second time . The first go around I didn't have this mission and just yesterday I came across this mission . This game is a masterpiece !! You can play the game over and over and get different mission than the first time you played . I can't wait for RDR .
I finished the game ages ago and had no idea this squirrel existed. Now I'm going to put in the effort with John to complete the mission. I want to see the inside of the taxidermist's house and take home my little buddy!
I think Abigail asked Charles to take the squirrel to Mt Shann. She literally says that there's always something for him to do when he says he could probably leave by now.
Doubt it because you can complete this even after the story is over, and Charles has already left for Canada back then.
@davidstinger1134 that's what I did, and I doubt uncle or Jack would take it there. Unless it moved by itself.
I thought it was pretty common knowledge about the game that Abigail was the one moving the squirrel.
Agree. It was on reddit, at least.
For many who never bothered with the taxidermy requests, I didn't know about this. Obviously it's her, but the video was still fun and shares the info.
omg, this game is 5 years old and I never saw this missions.
what a masterpiece
Same
Because the hunting requests are such a hassle. It’s one of few things I have left to do for %100 completion and I still have yet to finish the first one
Wow, same..lol well I know what I'm doing soon. Also the exotic plants I never finished either.
@@sonnybmhe I’m still working on the exotic plants too but I don’t put too much effort into that one. I just do a little looking anytime I come down to Lemoyne to do other things
@Kalum Jackson I bought a ps3 recently just so I can play the first one but after playing rd2 1st it's hard to stick to it. They need a remake for ps4,5
Two things: First, hey Abby, just a thought, you live 200 yards from a lake! Second, how the script writers didn't take advantage of dropping corny lines to John every time he found the squirrel such as, "Am I going nuts?" is a bit disappointing ;)
Lol the lake thing is even better an option, since John can't swim
The lake would have ruined the entire funny story.
@@Celisar1eh John could have been like “what the hell man!!” And if the player is smart enough they would fish it out with a rod
Maybe Abigail thought the UFO would beam the squirrel up never to be seen again...
That’s what I thought
Lmaooo
I liked thinking that the squirel was implied to move on its own
Same
I’m still on my first play through (I already know what happens) but I like that Uncle has to climb a ladder to get up to his room. Wonder if that was done for the amusement of John to watch a drunk Uncle climb that ladder. 😂
Yeah, and it’ll make his LUMBAGO worse 😆
Respect the level of work that goes into these videos...and the editing is ALWAYS on point 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Even if it just copies or steals content and material from other channels, yup
It's so funny to imagine Abigail taking the squirel to the very top of the mountain 😆
This is the one time I actually sympathise with Abigail, I wouldn't give house room to the squirrel either 😂 The biggest mystery though is how does Mrs Hobbs know what John looks like in order to dress the squirrel correctly? She's never met him until that point. John meticulously adjusting the hat before gently placing the squirrel back in place had me laughing out loud 😅
THAT'S is the mistery 🧐
That too. How did she know what John looked liked (especially since I started doing those missions as Arthur) if she's never seen him? Also adding to her weird line of being like gods now.... Nah, there's more to this.
Even weirder is that the squirrels clothes exactly match Johns outfit from the first RDR
Dear god, MAJOR typos I made lol.
*especially
*Missions
I meant to put lol
Bounty posters maybe
Abigail, John built you a home so he could win back your love. Let him have his damn squirrel!
I like to think she was trying to find that one last place, somewhere John would NEVER find it. Just like how you panned up from the house to the mountain behind it, that’s what she did and just went ‘AHA’ and made her way there, or sent Charles or Sadie to do it 😂
And then john puts it back and she's like "GODDAMNIT!"
@@gisi5276she just gives up because John is too determined
Hell, he’d learn to swim for the damn thing
"UA-cam notification"
"Strangeman: squirrel mystery solved"
"brain stopped working"
Hell yeah
always found it strange that the one person with "lumbago" has a bedroom where he has to climb up & down a 9ft ladder
All these years and this game still blows my mind. Never heard of this until now.
Maybe Abigail wanted the Squirrel to get abducted by the UFO so she’d be rid of it permanently. But the whole thing about Abigail being the suspect is both funny and makes sense but also a bit disappointing as well, I probably would’ve preferred if there was a more supernatural/ paranormal element to it, like it being cursed or something, or maybe it being a wholesome type of paranormal activity like the Ghost of Arthur playing a prank on John.
"DAMN YOU!"
"You'll be alright, boah"
The strange man is the only rdr2 UA-camr who solves the greatest mysteries in the game
What about mrbussfuck the world
Are you a bot?
@@angusyoung5398 nah
This was solved years ago
What's the mystery though? Pretty obvious lolol
Abigail's determination to get rid of the statue is amazing 🤣
Thanks Strange Man!
This is something else. I found the squirrel the first time it disappeared. I had no idea about the rest of it though. It being placed on Mt Shann may be in reference to the taxidermist saying it makes her and John like Gods now. Meaning the Aliens representing the UFO's are the Gods?
Anyways it gives me something else to do in the Epologue which I've been free roaming in for a year now, in my 3rd playthrough which I started in September of 2021.
I noticed that line too. I already did this, but hearing that cutscene again now... It is a weird line. Same with heaven being just like this when he dies. So maybe jokingly unaware meta joke about how the player is basically a god in this world, but that line is weird. Also weirder considering Rockstar let's you have John Marston as your father in GTA Online. And the lore I created for my GTA online character is that he is the anti-hero Eldritch son to MY specific (100% complete save) full evil Eldritch god John in a parallel universe. I used to think RDR and GTA are in the same universe, they're not because New York is called Liberty City in the GTA universe and is merely New York in RDR. They're more so parallel to each other, like FromSoftware game universes are. The RDR book in Michael's library merely being an Easter egg.
Now I can add more lore where that book isn't just an Easter egg, but a cosmic tome that just BARELY tying the universes together by a thin invisible cosmic thread. The book just being a transcript of EVERYTHING in Arthur's journal up until John is officially done with it. ALL the animals, all supernatural events, weapons, unique strange items etc.
@@InlandDiscoEmpire Amazing lore😲,absolutely love it👍
its weird because the playable areas in R* games are always fictional names, but then they go talk about italy, new york, chicago... while cleary being in places that represent actual IRL places...
I figured it was her from the start and tried to catch her taking it but she is to smart for John 😂
She literally hides it in the sheep's pen in the open... If it even is her...
There’s definitely something about mount shann that hasn’t been discovered yet…
The “sun dial” with the arrows on it.
The wall painting.
The rock that has binoculars, a compass and aged pirate rum next to it.
I don’t think the content is cut as previously suggested on this channel.
you have to be drunk off your ass at the time the ufo comes to mount shann and look at it with binocs and youll get abducted.
Bones of the giant also
@@TurtleMan99 Technically the Doomsday update for GTA5 confirmed there was an underground base
@AA-bz1pr that was an update that wasn't the case in the beginning

I’m expecting another ufo sighting or a wall that can be walked through somewhere with an Easter egg behind it or something
_“Have you seen my squirrel?”_
- John Marston (badass outlaw)
Classic Strange Man video! Good detective work, great editing...and always leaving me with more questions and wanting more!
Marital squirrel. I think that was going to be two. Notice how “John’s” squirrel is placed in front of his side of the picture. Not directly in the center on the placed doily. Leaving an open spot for a potential “Abigail” squirrel? I don’t know..
The game designer in me simply prefer to think of it, as the game devs playing with us, a game of hide and seek, and the UFO being them coming to see how we're having fun, and also showing themselves to the player, if he find the last spot.
I’ve played this game since 2020 and I am still discovering things like this! Love your channel!!
I love the idea of Abigail hiking up the mountain, panting and cursing the whole way. "God... damned... *SQUIRREL!"*
I can just imagine Abigail climbing all the way to the top of Mount Shann just to drop off the squirrel 😂
I'm thinking about the figures, which may not make any total sense at all.
Squirrel disappeared six times, there are total of 6 chapters in RDR2 and Dutch's camp moved 6 times as well.
Final spot for the squirrel is located at the mountaintop, Arthur died near the mountaintop, not exactly on top but, kinda close.
The other 5 squirrel locations might mean something, objects near the chests or exact location of the squirrel might signify something related to the characters but I'm too lazy to check. lol
Are you talking about the mountain that Arthur died on or Mt. Shann???
Fun fact:
The owner of this channel didnt call it Strange Man based off the Red Dead character, but because of the day when I met him at a local Walmart and asked him for a picture. He replied "I dont know, CAN you?" then stabbed me 87 times, stole my eyes, and did the default dance from Fortnite as I bled to death on the floor. I didnt even realize I was a mutilated body till I arrived home. Please, youre a strange man. I really miss my eyes. Give them back.
I think the statue is there so that when people forget about it and try to go to mount shann to see the ufo again. It will be there
Good point
But you have to find it 5 times before it moves to that spot.
Lol to be honest I would have put it on the mantle and not even noticed it was gone the 1st time. 🙃
Awesome video strange man
5 years in and this man keeps finding secrets. Love you SM
Best channel in the game. And such a fun subject again! You make RDR2 even better. And jeeping it alive still too.
I bought the game for three of my friends because I loved it so much. I wanted to experience it too. And after they’re done playing. I will give them your channel too!
Strange man always gets the most insane snapshots ever in this game. great job! been here since 2.5k!
love these videos so much
The aliens definitely know the cure for Uncle's lumbago.
I loved this quest (though ofc, finding all the critters took ages, but not as time-consuming as the other hunting trophy XD.) I'm probably just weird haha, but I think the squirrel is cute and now I want a plushie of it lol 😆
I also love the squirrel statue, it's well cool.
I'd love one irl on my mantlepiece.
Rockstar could make enough money out of that plushie to update rdo (console and pc cross servers) and gives us undead nightmare 2
I believe the squirrel is Johns animus, as Eagle/Coyote are Arthurs animus. And being the squirrelly Friend John has been of Arthur, the Squirrel searches for Arthur...even on Mount Shann
I’ve been waiting for this!
Great vid as alway strange man, I reached level 1000 on online a few weeks ago, and completed the last 2 trophies I need in story mode (study/skin all animals) and I haven’t played since, feels so weird after 9500+ total hours of the game that I love to just not have anything left to play for or achieve, I miss it a lot
The sheer volume of content in this game, so many small touches throughout the map
Love the Scott Joplin at the start. Great video!
Today on my third playthrough, I found out that if you hangout at camp fire and sing songs with your fellow gang members, Arthur will start randomly sing a song on the back of the horse when traveling afterwards.
What places are the squirrels gun facing or angled to?
Was thinking that too. But also shooting.
I never knew of this mission, what the heck? Thanks Strange Man for making these exemplary videos.
This is amazing!
Never know about this. Thx
There’s also a model in the game files named “squirrel_meteor”, which is the exact copy of the squirrel model, but without textures, I think initially Rockstar planned to add the third meteor on the mount Shann which you would be able to find near the squirrel.
Or it's in it?
The Valentine Conversation. It is an extremely rare conversation to encounter in the town of Valentine between two NPC’s. They talk about a girl fishing a rock out of a river. This has lead players to fish for the meteorite, as well as interact with thousands of NPC’s in an attempt to find the girl. This, to, has lead to no avail. This myth has lead to some claiming the idea that “The Meteor That Rocked The Old West” legend is true. All in all, this is one of the biggest mysteries of Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2020.
a meteor struck outside the map in Red Dead Redemption back in 2010, only a short while after the game was released. According to them, towns burned, and everyone in free roam burned to death. They also claim they can “get in trouble for showing us“ and “they are the only ones able to access that part of the map.” The only evidence we have to go off of that they’re not just showing some random putter part of the map is their story. But, that didn’t stop this from becoming a Legend
Or the third meteor is actually the big one stuck in the ground.
I wonder if you break the squirrel on top of the mountain, John discovers the last meteorite. 🤔
Its Great that theres no lector in your video's! Everything seems more mystical and mysterious, also with subtitles I can watch it when I forgot to take my earphones with me!
I theorize that the chosen spot for the squirrel is there because Rockstar simply wanted to double the easter egg/hidden detail for that location. Nothing much to do on the peak besides see the UFO, which you can already do as Arthur, so John can come back there for his squirrel adventure. If the player hasn't seen it yet, then John can get a double dose.
i love these videos ❤
Abigail could have put it somewhere that an eagle or hawk could grab it and fly it up there. If she really wanted to get rid of it, she could have dropped it off the end of the Blackwater pier.
As John can't swim
She went all the way up a mountain when Flat Iron Lake and a rock are right there.
Finally, after 4 years, the mystery has been solved. Many more to come, I hope. It's incredible that we're still finding new things and solving mysteries to this day.
My theory is that rockstar just wanted to hint you towards a ufo location through this "mission"/"activity"
My favorite rdr2 UA-camr!
I’m a man of simple tastes. I see a new Strange Man video and I click whether I’m currently playing RDR2 or not.
Crazy that I’ve had this game for years now and just now heard of this
First of all I give you my most sincere congratulations for this other great video. I can't explain why the stuffed squirrel is right where the UFO also appears, but it is certainly something very intriguing
10:23 The squirrel is pointing its gun at the UFO, the answer is obvious. John is going to lead the human resistance against the alien Combine invaders in the 7 hour war in the next Undead Nightmare: Cowboys vs. Aliens
I never know about this before, thank you 😢
Man these Ice age movies just keep getting weirder and weirder
Imagine a 7th hiding spot, but this one is all the way to Guarma
4:16 "Imma just shove my arm into this active fireplace like a character out of Norwegian folklore, no big deal"
I haven't tested this, but I wonder if the peak of Mt Shann is the furthest she could get the squirrel without losing sight of home
The ufo thing I never knew thanks for sharing
This game is so cool man.. i never heard about this squirell.. there are so many mysteries to discover who nobody found yet.. and this game is 5 years old at this point
More strange man content, NOICE. Also before I watch the video I remember reading on the RDR 2 mysteries reddit a few weeks back about the meteorite and this Squirrel (I've long completed 100% and 70 gold, it was a nightmare to complete) and it makes me wonder if either inside the squirrel is the 3rd and final meteorite OR the squirrel ITSELF is MADE OUT OF the meteorite. Would make sense as the final tedious little task we have to do not just to complete 100%, but get the final meteorite. And the last place it hides is on top of mount Shann, the EXACT spot you see the second UFO.
[Edit]: Currently paused 8:05 and haven't read comments yet. Just wanted to add to my theory (can't try it now because I don't have an old save, I'd have to literally play the whole game over again which I am planning on doing eventually), but I was thinking when it's on top of mount Shann, you have to shoot it like jar holding the shrunken head item in Lakay and the 3rd meteorite comes out. You can't use your guns at Beecher's hope, but the last location it hides, you can. I never tried it and it's too late for me too, but something tells me you make a save right before grabbing it from it's final location. One save to unlock the trophy and the other to go back and shoot it open. Just a theory. It would make as a great troll for players like us that look at all the details in this game and still hunt for the 3rd meteorite. It's been sitting on John's shelf this WHOLE time LOL!
[Edit]: My first guess was Abigail too. Around the Beecher's Hope it makes sense, but that final location is NO accident and that's when I started to think it was something more. Also the hiding locations around Beecher's hope make not sense if it is Abigail. John is a rancher, he's going to eventually see it hidden in the sheep's pen when you go to give them water. So my theory is if you or ANYONE has a old save prior to doing this or hasn't don it yet, shoot the squirrel when it's on top of mount Shann. Make a save before doing so.
Nah bro they still finding new mysteries to solve in 2023? How much more mysteries does this game have?
Games to good 😂
John Marston completing the 100% challenge : "it's art"
Abigail was offering tthe art to the ufo hoping they would take it and she would never have to see him again XD
A 3 star moose was almost my undoing. I followed all the online maps, all the UA-cam videos and every reddit tip. It took 38 days with roughly 4+ hours of play per day to finally find a 3 star male moose.
The overarching plan was to stop playing the missions while Micah is stuck in Strawberry jail and Thomas Downes is awaiting Arthur to visit. It's the best time to focus and finish all of the side stuff. But 38 freakin days of checking the few spots where literally everyone else was finding them. Eff this game.
Charles" "You won't need my help much longer"
Abigail, looking at John putting the squirrel back on the mantle: " We can always use your help around here"
aka Charles was in on the plan. No wonder he visit in 1911 was so short he didn't want to admit he hid the squirrel 🤣
So, it becomes clear that the aliens are some sort of advanced squirrel species. And that then means that the taxidermy squirrel was one of their infiltrator-scout units that had the misfortune to cross paths with John when he was on this quest. And they're defense mechanism in such a circumstance is to play dead. Well, this led to the squirrel being frozen in this position and the taxidermist lady thinking it's so stiff she doesn't need to do anything else beyond just mounting it to a board (no stuffing it, etc). Now, uncomfortable as this is, the squirrel is an scout-infiltrator so is no slouch himself and very determined. So it is actually still trying to escape and each time it disappears having dragged itself to some new hiding place at it broadcasts a distress signal (likely from special tech mounted in the tail being as they are so large and poofy and make excellent antenna to broadcast signals). But each time the squirrel gets found before the signals are picked up. Finally the scout infiltrator alien squirrel gets fed up and drags himself up to the top of the mountain so as to better attract the attention of its alien squirrel comrades to come rescue it.
It's so obvious. Clear as could be. Mystery solved.
Or, Abigail is a space alien herself.
Or Jack is.
Or Uncle.
Have you tried shooting it? It's the only thing I can think of when I imagine Abigail traveling all this way to get rid of it, instead of just destroying it if it bothers her so much
Same idea, but it's too late for me to try.
I have this idea that R* could've done.
If you finish the hunting requests as Arthur, you get the squirrel dress as him.
If you start as John or don't finsih as Arthur(continue as John) then the squirrel will dress up as John.
.
For Arthur he would lay the statue, on the table, in his tent next to the flower. Hosea or Dutch come by and the dialogue would be the same as Abigails, but of course it would be said differently.
I personally think it is just Abigail and the mount hagen thing is a joke that she hates this squirrel statue so much she hikes up a mountain to hopefully keep it from John
I'm guessing Abigail has the same love for it as the mother had for the leg lamp in "A Christmas Story."
Having not played the Story Mode, could Charles have taken it at Abigail's request, or was he not around at the time of it's final journey?
Charles: "You won't need my help around here much longer."
Abigail: "(Tom?) Oh, we can always use your help" 6:06
Maybe she can always use his help getting rid of the squirrely art. =)
"That is...the ugliest squirrel that I have ever seen in my entire life!!!!"😂
Hold on, are you implying you've played Online but not the story?
@@user-jt1js5mr3f Yep! Saw the crew at Outsidexbox playing online before I was able to get Stadia and "Red Dead Redemption 2" and decided, 'I want that!' Never set foot in Story Mode because I got stung hard by Rockstar on the first "Red Dead Redemption" with them (SPOILER) for that 1 person who's never played the first game,... murdering off John Marston (/SPOILER) and wasn't about to let them rip my heart out, again. Yall be talking about that damn squirrel when I didn't even know about the Mount Shann UFO, nor about the fact that Uncle has his own room 😂
Surprised the squirrel hasnt been made into a Keychain, or statue at Rockstar warehouse.
I’m not sure how much of a mystery this is. I knew about it years ago when the game was still fairly new. I think it’s mentioned in the guide book, but maybe I heard about it on the internet. I can’t recall it’s been so long.
This was such a cool little Easter egg. I had always just assumed that Abigail threw it away and that was that. I had no idea there was thus whole little mini quest that went with it.
cool channel. subbed
Never knew about this quest. Do you get anything after finding it for the last time
Ok, I never even knew about these taxidermy missions, but that is just freaking adorable. All the statues Mrs Hoobs makes, but that squirrel in particular. So cute 😄
Abigail is an Alien. Confirmed.
All jokes aside, I do find it funny how John places it in-front of himself on the mantel. It would probably have been even funnier if the second part of the mini-quest involved getting one made to look like Abigal so she could have one in-front of her as well.
