  • In this video I show you a theoretical model of the best possible storage interface. I also explain how to build it with the technology that already exists. This concept completely breaks the two factors that are used to measure how good a storage is and that is access time and lag. Currently the only disadvantage of this thing is that you have to convince people to start using it.

This are some cool ideas. I never tought about renaming items with resource packs to use in storage, thats neat.

The problem is. You can't simply put boxes back. You need a sorting system for those.
Maybe its an idea to order a complete chest inventory instead of an item. And send it back.

Thats the case for all storages you always can get people to put items or boxes into them.

@@AdamSchadow but wouldn't the storage system cause passive lag? it wouldn't stop this storage system from having very fast access times, but it would cause just as much passive lag as any other storage system.

@@thedenominator_ Ofc any storage that is loaded causes lag however you could simply not load the storage while nobody is using it and only if a user sends request from the interface would it get loaded process the request and then unloaded again.

I slightly differ about what speed this would be, you would have to remember or figure out each number and input it, which would take up to tens of seconds. Relatively, a system such as you described with calling shulker boxes and with cooresponding items

Using items to call boxes would work if we had movable hoppers.

Figuring out these numbers is nowhere near as hard as it might seem especially since we can fit like the most used redstone items into just two digits and thats not that hard to remember.

while the most used redstone items might fit into 2 digits, blocks for building and many other frequently used items wouldn't

blah blah theoreticals smheticals who needs to account for issues when you can just cheat!

@@killingtimeitself even with a hacked client you still need a storage system.

i think this is a cool concept, but what if you need to access an item that you don't have in your inventory? you can't just look at the name to find its id.

You could add next to this a bunch of chests with one of each items for such cases.
