I made a water pipe out of carbon fiber prepreg for GL1100. I'm really happy with how it came out. Let me know what you think!

Are you using any kind of mould release agent ?
Yes, I used chemical release agent. You’ll see at 1:10 in the video.

Have you ever thought of making carbon fiber handlebars?
Is it work when using wet lay method?

Yes it can work. But with the wet layup method will be a lot more difficult to make a tube shape. Maybe check this video to give you an idea about the whole process. ua-cam.com/video/YNWu1-r5HGo/v-deo.html

I don’t understand it. Does the fiber not go all around the pipe? Then the strenght of that pipe will be the strenght of the epoxy only.

The cf is all the way around and the resin holding the layers together. It is heat resistant up to 130c.

are you not worried about a resin matrix breakdown because of the coolant ?

Will see. Never tried it before. Can be possible it will wreck the whole engine or just the pipes. I would like to see the results 🛠🤘
@@zrcarbon9937 true i looked into it and its unlikely to be a problem acidity is bad but coolant is normally alkaline / just getting acidic if its way bad so i think you will be fine.
The prepreg is rated for hot water temperatures I assume?
Yes 130c

What is cf polish

The polish I used (Easygloss carbon fiber polish & protect) is designed for carbon fibre or dark-finish composite parts to give a deeper contrast for your parts.

@@zrcarbon9937 cutting the part did not look to good to me... Maybe check the curing cycle...? Is it fully cured? Give it some more time to cool down, cooldown delta temp is also important! To sand the ends flush use a block clamped to the bench and put the tube next to it and the sanding block vertical along the bench... Should be a simple streight sand down ;)
