This video provides a great disservice to the industry. Bare minimum for a old pole barn a mile away but not for an expensive house. This is how old school roofing thugs would install your roof. Good enough for them but today we have much more talent out there. These roofs are expensive and deserve a quality installation. They should be a lifetime roof.
My sentiments exactly. I would never let this individual install a roof on my house. What a mess. My problem with metal roofing is the sellers of the product dont or won't sell to the home owner. You have hire an installer. You end up some loser installing your roof and then end up battling with them over payment because you got a shitty job
@@holmes1956O Hi , Do you think that a skilled finish carpenter/cabinet builder could do a decent job installing a simple gable roof with 4/12 pitch ? If they’d carefully viewed videos of someone who *did* know what they were doing and took great care with the end product ? Thanks !
@@holmes1956O 15:20 Are you referring to this angled cut , for example , that looks all warbly (i.e. , you shouldn’t see any tool marks , right? ). Thanks again 😉
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE GAP JUNCTION ABOVE THE VALLEY ? AND DOES IT REALLY MAKES SENSE TO COMPROMISE THE SEEMS BY DRILLING THROUGH THEM WHEN INSTALLING THE RIDGE CAP ???
This is not the snap lock I have looked at. Real snap lock uses metal clips on the side of the panel to hold down the under panel and the top panel snaps over that panel and clip. This type in the video looks like it would come apart in high wind
@holmes1956O that is standing seam I'm pretty sure. These panels have an s groove on one side and an L on the other and that is how they snap together. Our panels have never come off in high winds that I've heard of. But these have a bigger profile than our panels.
The slopes of the two roof sections are very different. You can't match ribs if the slopes aren't the same. Look at the angle the panels need to be cut for the two sides of the valley, you'll see it would be impossible for the ribs to match.
@@itsdyl1031finishing a gazebo roof with 2x6 rafters 16in oc. Thinking of using fence boards for roof decking before installing a metal roof. Thoughts?
appreciate the effort but had to stop watching it.. it's just moving along too fast.. trying to see the guy making the cuts but camera is shaking all over the place. Much better if the camera was still and the person making the cuts wasn't hiding the cuts he's doing with his back. Thanks for trying.. I'll find another install video to check out. I'm sure there's plenty more to watch. Take care
I was fine with this until those screws went into the ridge cap. Right through the panels. There should be snaps or something. The whole point with standing seam is to not have exposed screws.
They usually put a z flashing adhered and screwed with 2sided tape in between the standing seems and rivet to the z tab that overhangs so the rivet is beyond the now enclosed ridge.
it does work great, but when it comes to parts of the roof that will be seen by the homeowner everyday he comes home from work, its not so fun to look at metal cut with a saw... it also starts to rust as opposed to having a clean cut with the metal snips 🤷🏻♂
You can nail all the trims and panels down with a roofing nailer. If this metal needed to move around so much like people claim, you wouldn’t be putting screws through the top of it with the cap now would you? You wouldn’t be putting 2 to 4 screws in every piece of the Z bar closure directly through the panel if it needed to move around correct? Oh that may be way over you guys head because you’re not even putting cleat in the damn valley!
You guys don't hem your valley panels into a cleat....???? I don't see how you can guarantee that no water, snow, or ice gets underneath that panel past The Valley.. doesn't seam all that professional to me
I can tell you have did this before only because I noticed the exact same shortcuts, I do about 8 to 10 standing seam roofs a year and I think it's the best roofing system on the market when installed correctly but it's also the most expensive, this method might pass for a demonstration inside a building but out in the elements will have a lot of problems when the first storm comes 🤦
So those hand-snipped-by-eye valley cuts are exposed and visible?? 😮 if so, Why not use a neater tool such as a small angle grinder with a thin kerf wheel at least? And didn’t anyone teach this guy how red chalk is indelible? 🤦♂️
@@Dana5775 that valley hem is way to hi from the center myself I would've preferred 2.5 from center and if my distributor couldn't provide that then tacky tape and a cleat will solve that

I don't think you could hire a guy to work at this speed. Playback at .75 is a little closer to normal but the sound is a little slow. Music should be saved for a music channel. I don't know why they think we want to try to listen to the instruction with the music so loud.
Absolutely horrible to watch. I've personally never seen red chalk that wasn't permanent, red lines will be there forever, the valley panels should've been hemmed and attached to a cleat with butyl tape. And the cuts look horrible. Also exposed fasteners on this type of system is a no-no. Video quality was also bad
I love how the the gable scene was out of focus for most of it and he was standing in the way the whole time. Not a great video, and this is the only "how to" video for snaplock on this chanel. Wish they would break down each detail a bit better
everyone just got dumber watching this hack.. i dont do roofing but I think im going to do the roof on my house so im learning.. this took me back... worse than when i knew nothing.... no fold on the valley flashing is nasty looking.. like from the hills of virginia on a roof from the 50's

I took the video as a lesson for DIY'ers, in which case it is decent!

A minor comment, but the music is really annoying. No music at all is better.
Just turn down the volume and it's over
The music drove me crazy
16:58 is the valley on the left finished? The standing seems don't go all the way to the bottom of the valley?
I don’t understand hand nailing felt or ice and water down. Ever here of a hammer tacker
Why is butyl tape not use on the gable ends and why are not the gable ends screw down.
Wind os going to get under up and cause it to lift up
Stupid question, can the Ice & Water shied membrane be stapled down instead of nailed down?
Where is the diverter in the valley?
1:39 overlap incorrect?! It should be reversed?
5:52 that's not every 6" is it?
What seals the valley cuts from rusting
Nothing. I always fold them over and crimp them flat. No exposed raw edge and it cleans it up a lot as well.

How much do you charge for sheets pack and how many come inside?
How does the snaplock actually snap into place?

He said screw every 6" inches and then proceeded every 12" lol
HUM, learned some standing seem panels use brackets to join the panels and some DON'T as in this clip
How come he didn't match the ribs or hooked the panels to the valley 🤔
The slopes of the two roof sections are very different. You can't match ribs if the slopes aren't the same. Look at the angle the panels need to be cut for the two sides of the valley, you'll see it would be impossible for the ribs to match.
Or bend the ends at the valley, wouldn’t that look better?
Venden ustedes el pro rib panel?
How come you didn't finish the valley?
So the panels that covers the valley they dont get screwed in?
Best practice is a valley cleat/keeper should be used up the valley and the panel hemmed so it hooks the cleat. .

Why the dust mask?🧐
I think the guys who just did my roof watched this video. Needless to say Im having to replace the entire roof and getting a different contractor.
😂 yeah, this video is pretty brutal
Sorry to hear about your roof though 😔
Did you lost alot of money? Did the insurance from the old contractor pay to get your roof redone?
Like I tell people and as you well know now: if you think hiring a good roofing contractor is expensive, try hiring a bad one…
Thank you . I learned a lot.
After further review I think .50 is the actual speed, I guess they want us to believe it goes down a lot faster.
Probably no one wants to watch 30 minutes to see a demonstration.
Is it OK if your 1st panel is bowed like that? Your 2nd panel just kind of goes with it. Idk. Just asking
Insaller is a hack
Looking for info on thickness and type of roof decking material, i.e. 1/2" osb vs 5/8" cdx or?
5/8 cdx is the best way to go for a home being lived in. For a shed, or garage osb is probably fine

I like this product but the presentation shows many shortcuts and incorrect techniques. No hems on Valley panel ends and no Z flash ridge closures.

Could have been a better video if he slowed down while the instructions were given. It was like he was in a roofing speed competition.
or finish one job before starting the other, like the gable trim top for example
There’s no way I’d pay you if that guy was installing my roof. This video hasn’t aged welll at all

Valleys should have offset cleats that panels are locked into. This is a really bad installation, that is a basic requirement of standing seam roofing

scared to get covid from the roof?
Is there asbestos in that metal? If so,he should wear gloves too. That mask has me wondering how safe this product is to handle
