I just made 60 day candles with 2 canisters of Great Value 3 lb shortening from Walmart @ $5 each. Bought a 0.5 gallon anchor glass jar for $5 from Walmart and made a giant candle with that and then the leftover went into a large 35.5 Oz glass jar from a bottle of some pickled four bean salad jar. The wicks are from unscented 10” tapered Mainstays candles from Walmart, a pack of 4 for $3. You cut the candles to just above the level of melted shortening after you fill them. I put 3 candles into the large 0.5 gallon glass jar and 1 candle into the skinnier 35.5 Oz glas jar.

Just a heads up coming in 2023 - the government is mandating that you go through a veterinarian to get pet meds. So, for those of us that go to Tractor Supply type places to get meds for our farm animals, that will not be happening as of 2023. I would suggest Novema candles. They are tall chimney type candles that will burn for 9 nights. If the Catholic saint on it bothers you, it’s a thin plastic overlay that you can remove. They are available in Mexican food stores and in the international foods aisles of supermarket. If you don’t want to burn your fingers while lighting them, take a lighter and ignite the end of a piece of dry spaghetti. You can get down inside of it to reach the wick. These give off a lot of light.
I DONT THINK THREW THESE TIMES YOU WANT TO COVER THE SAINT. THAT WOULDNT BE A GOOD IDEA. GOD SEES EVERYTHING. IF YOU DO T HAVE GOD YOU BETTER GO BACK TO HIM NOW. PERIOD
I love this list. May want to add any books or training materials on first aid, herbal remedies, survival, prepper books, grid down preparation, etc. Any medical supplies such as walkers, canes, handicapped shower and toilet accessories, transport chairs, back and leg braces, commodes, any thing you would need to rehab at home. Thanks, JR. Good list of reminders.,
JR, you nailed it. I just ordered more bottled water, more propane, charcoal and some lumber. Family thinks I'm nuts, but I got it. Lots of candles on hand, and plenty of food. BE PREPARED.
Yes and since you are prepared they will be coming to you when it happens!. They can call me crazy if they want but be assured they will think of me & you first when they are in need. He who laughs last laughs best!
I wouldn't consider myself a "prepper" per se - but as a life-long New Englander, I do have a few emergency supplies and things to deal with power outages and so forth. I always find value and guidance from those who prepare - Thank you!
From my experience of the war in Ukraine, I can say that even if the goods do not disappear, their price will increase many times And their quality may drop sharply. At best, this means that either you are now buying good quality in a calm environment for a low price, or you are in a panic looking for it for crazy money and it is not known what quality of it. Because you will need it anyway. Thats the conception
I would add charging cables to this list - such as usb a, b or c . Take a look at all your electrical devices and make sure you have the right cables to charge them from a solar panel, battery bank or whatever power generator/storage system you have. Then - do a test charge to make sure the cable works. Keeping devices running would be useful in a short or long blackout, as boredom might be your biggest problem.
Agreed especially since stores like best buy and CVS and Walgreens that sell them are closing. I recommend ordering from the manufacturer as soon as you purchase the device
I found a solar panel charger for phones & laptops (and so forth) at my local Harbor Freight. Needless to say- I got one. Thanks to both of my kids having been in scouts when they were growing up, I have plenty of that kind of stuff.
Dollar Tree has some "now" Christmas-time - that look like biggg Christmas-Lights (4 colors) - they're SOLAR and they actually have an on / off Switch (if you unscrew the Bulb from the base) - and You can cut it On / Off whenever you need it !! Instead of them Allll Automaticallyyyy Coming ONNNN whenever it gets "Dark" !! ... and ... they have a little "hanger" on Top of it - so, you can put hang it anywhere in the house / tent / basement / outside / car .... a Solar Light 💡 for only a $1.25 ... - Notttt too bad !!! 😉
We are biblically living in the last days, seek the lord while he may be found. Fear and worry comes from the devil but life and peace comes from Jesus.
I have been buying wipes, and putting them back, alot cheaper, than toilet paper, you stay cleaner, and you can wash your body with them, also, when grid goes down.
Anything stored in plastic like wipes, will lose the moisture because it evaporates thru the plastic. Better get some baby oil in case your wipes dry up. :)
One item I have not seen mention is boardgames. Monopoly, Sorry, Clue, Life, Battleship, Scrabble and even card games like Uno or having a few deck of cards on hand will be a life saver once all the electronic games can't be played... Thought I'd throw that out there... Happy 4th of July everyone...🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Good list, JR. A couple of items that you mention, I need to recheck. I could only add one thing to this list : Liquor !! For barter, fire starting, cleaning, and drinking........... but mostly for drinkin' !! Cheers.
Good point. Anything 100 proof or over. The glass bottles of a 1/5th of whiskey or larger make for good water containers as well. Another good container is the 2L-3L glass bottles of wine. I think I've seen 4L bottles of the cheap stuff too. Store in a dark cool place , will last years. Better for a normal beverage than whiskey. Of course the obvious response to this is to grow your own Grapes or Muscadines and then learn , from any number of sources, to make your own wine. From which I'd would agree wholeheartedly
My suggestion, keep a majority of food and supplies out of your home in case of fire or flood. I keep 2/3 of food and supplies in a stone and steel indoor, temperature controlled, storage unit.
A very good natural pain reliever is Kratom. It is made from a leaf of a tree in south east Asia. 1 tablespoon works wonders for most pain but it doesn’t work on headaches. This will be a great barter item. Another good thing to have would be the ability to make colloidal silver a very good antibiotic that super bugs have no defense against. For $100 you can get everything you need including the silver to make hundreds of gallons of this natural antibiotic. The only thing you’ll have to have is distilled water and you can make your own distilled water.
Been prepping since 2001. And live in Florida so the good thing is i always have a fresh rotation of anything that expires and good things to know ishow long something lasts after it expires. A lot of medicines last far beyond expiration. I always keep food and water i store in rotation. Use old and add new. Have enough cases of water to last 90 days. And do the same for ammo. I do a lot of competition shooting to keep the dust off. Its good to practice. Always use the oldest ammo and buy replacement ammo when leaving the range. Always have enough ammo, magazines or shells to load your weapon 6 times. If you shotgun holds 4 then have 24 shells. As for gas or fuel. It goes stale rather quickly so i only fill up containers if a storm is coming or things appear to be heating up in the world. And when the storm passes i dump the fuel in my vehicles
@@diypreppertv You have a practical, common-sense approach to prepping, J R. And you always come up with *something* I need to address. Thank you, and stay well!
One really handy thing to have is a power inverter 12 volts to 120 AC. It can be used to run lights charge cell phones and flashlights and radios Can be run from your car battery which can be recharged by starting the motor.
I remember early in the pandemic when I went to a small grocery and was excited to score four whole rolls of tp. This place was not one of the huge grocery "everything in the world" store, just one of the last small basic groceries in town.
When the pandemic started I went to a restaurant to buy a gift card for my friends birthday...the restaurant wouldn't take my cash because they were afraid of contamination so I had to use my debit card!! Who knew that would happen? Be prepared for anything!! Lesson learned!
Lipton ice tea powder mixes seem better to me because they don't have artificial dies, like red 40 & such. These artificial colors are bad for our health, and most Gatorade, Tang, Lemonade powders have these.
I recently came across an inexpensive all purpose/window cleaner by mixing 1/3 Pine-Sol, 1/3 white vinegar and 1/3 water. Lemon scented Pine-Sol smells great and works great too.
I have most everything in this Video but I also want to add Rechargeable Lights including headlamps and bicycles. If Gas is extremely expensive or in short supply then I have 3: Raleigh brand Hybrid bicycles with panniers and racks os well as BOB Yak and IBEX bicycle trailers. These are invaluable for transportation and carrying small loads.
Books: edible plants in your area, traditional skills, horticulture ( gardening) books prior to WWI ( no pesticides used by the Victorians). Beekeeping and attracting pollinators. Make a binder of information you will need if power is out...like Hieloom distances required to keep the integrity of the variety. Improving soil. Etc.
Those would be good, and I also forgot vehicle maintenance stuff (oil, parts, etc). I thought of it before I filmed but was driving, so I didn’t write it down.
About canning jars, stock up now! They are going up in price and disappearing at the same time. In the last few months, after the harvest season, I attempted to buy some canning jars for shipping or delivery, but after my orders are placed I keep getting messages that my order items are either out of stock completely or the amount of cases is reduced, like to 1 case instead of 4 I ordered.
It's your money and home so it's up to you what your budget is. Never ignore random deals when you see them. We have an overstock clearance liquidation store here. I haven't been to their big location but I have seen some of the most beautiful random things listed like 2x2 carpet tiles for 3 bucks. That's one cent per square inch. Can't say it is comfortable carpet or what grade it is. However if to have disposable income and storage, would be great buy. People want to have a bug out bushcraft off grid homestead, but no one wants to properly furnish them. Would rather increase their back problems sleeping on hardwood than take the time to shop ahead. Or if you're good at carpentry, great for tiny home/ RV conversions.
Perfect video! This video is exactly the reality we face. If you don't have a plan to survive.... than you don't! Great job on bringing everything into a nutshell!!!! Don't forget about Cast Iron or Means to cook or boil water, Knifes, axes, hatchets and saws, seeds and anti biotics for future needs, gas masks and protective gear for hazardous environments.

Raman noodles are an excellent item to stock up on and the price went up again last week so get what you need now. May I also suggest rinse free body wash pads.
JR shutting breaker box off is a good idea. We had a car knock a power line down and the neighbor hood was without electricity for quite awhile. I learned I am not adequately prepared for a power outage. I did use my home made rocket stove and boiled water for coffee and a meal of noodles. Yes it did produce a great deal of smoke. Do you have a video telling how to prepare or what is needed for a power outage? I believe with our wind, and snow power outages are likely to be our biggest problem in Billings, MT Any advice would be appreciated.
one thing you could've mentioned is waterless hygiene items like body wash and shampoo. These come in handy for times when water is scarce or unavailable.
Dedollarization? Advice for all Americans is this, go for all of these items: Gold, silver, grains (dried and vacuum packed rice), legumes and lentils (dried and vacuum packed uncracked red lentils), vacuum packed dried fish, brined beef, brined pork, vinegar brined fish, salt, food preserving and medicinal spices such as cloves, oregano, garlic, Mexican marigold of the Tagates erecta variety, dried fruits, dried vegetables, etc.

Oh yeah something I saw recently that I thought was a good idea especially if the power goes down and phone services/internet. I have Makita 18v cordless power tools and batteries. Makita now have a lantern with a digital radio, torch function and a USB out port to charge stuff from. I have been thinking about getting a digital radio for emergency service information in case of bushfires. It isn't particularly cheap but given most people who have cordless tools have a couple of batteries or more it would last for quite a while if there was no power. I'm sure other brands have similar tools. Cheers.
Dewalt and ryobi have jumped onto this line as well. My collection started with a gifted weed trimmer. Then I purchased the fan, 8” chain saw style limb saw, lighted lantern, led spot light, led flashlight, blue tooth speaker with an/fm radio. I have more items I would like to add as well. I keep many batteries for these as well.
@@dees1378 Yeah true. I remember years back when I got my first drill saying to the salesman that they should develop stuff for the camping market and finally they have suitable stuff. It's definitely not the cheapest way to get the individual items but if you can multi purpose it all it's much better. I recently got the smallest chain saw skin they do for pruning in the garden and maybe camping as well. It is excellent and I now find I cut up branches for firewood rather than just burn them as it's so easy.

Gee, just use a toilet seat. For my camper I use a tall 6 or 7 gallon bucket with a 13 gallon trash bag and a real comfortable wooden toilet seat. @:10, Interestingly, I’ve already seen a shortage on distilled water in a few places. For people with medical equipment like CPAPs, distilled water is a must because of the dryness.
What good is a device gonna be ? End means no internet or phone system so no point

Solar lights, in the house & security. Many of these items last for a very long time (STOCK UP)! GREAT LIST!!!!!

It really suits ya better to just get over hot meals if possible. Anyone who trains to eat straight outta the can is at advantage in serious crises
@Deanna I pray to never be “picky” with sustenance ❤️⚡️
I agree 💯❗
It's not easy at all. But, takes some getting used to.
People always stocked up last minute on Rum and beer when I lived in a severe storm region.
Thanks for the reminder 😊. I certainly need to get a few bottles of the hard liquor 🥃🍶 .
SEVERAL can openers !!! They will break, or they could be misplaced.
I agree.
I agree
Good list, JR. A couple of items that you mention, I need to recheck.
I could only add one thing to this list : Liquor !! For barter, fire starting, cleaning, and drinking........... but mostly for drinkin' !!
Cheers.
Vodka, can be used to clean wounds.
Can be used on wounds also
For making medicinal tinctures also.
Liquor is also an excellent way to keep your body warm during winter weather without any heat or in a emergency situation.
My suggestion, keep a majority of food and supplies out of your home in case of fire or flood. I keep 2/3 of food and supplies in a stone and steel indoor, temperature controlled, storage unit.
I certainly agree about the (controlled climate) storage. However, I have other safety concerns about it. Thanks for sharing 🌻 .
Buy toothbrushes, sensitive tooth paste, regular tooth paste ,gel tooth pain relievers. Do not forget anti-dieharea medicine.
How long will bottle water last.
Spot on yet again, J R. Thank you for keeping up these videos!
Thank you Karl!
Harvest your own herb tea, for free! Go find healthy and tasty herbs, flowers, roots, fruits, berry's and nutsin field and woods...
Search top 100 things to disappear in a crisis. I turned that list into a spreadsheet and it became my basis years ago and it was spot on in 2020.
Would love to see a copy of that. Just in case I overlooked anything. I always write down an item before I forget.
I have a 50g pig tank 3 20g tanks and 2 1g tanks. Best of all is the attachment to refill tanks myself.
I recently came across an inexpensive all purpose/window cleaner by mixing 1/3 Pine-Sol, 1/3 white vinegar and 1/3 water. Lemon scented Pine-Sol smells great and works great too.
For bathrooms 1 to 1 white vinegar and Dawn dish soap. Spray leave 15 - 20 mins, wet, wipe and beautiful clean.
Excellent idea!
Etc.
Thank you for all your advice young-man I appreciate it, God bless.
Good reminders. Add bicycles and inner tubes. They were scarce during the height of Covid. Who would have thought?
Those would be good, and I also forgot vehicle maintenance stuff (oil, parts, etc). I thought of it before I filmed but was driving, so I didn’t write it down.
I agree
About canning jars, stock up now! They are going up in price and disappearing at the same time. In the last few months, after the harvest season, I attempted to buy some canning jars for shipping or delivery, but after my orders are placed I keep getting messages that my order items are either out of stock completely or the amount of cases is reduced, like to 1 case instead of 4 I ordered.
Try stores like fleet farm or menards, they are always stocked by us.

Great job, I love how real you are. You relate to those of us that are on a budget . Thanks so much !!
Thank you!
Don't forget about Cast Iron or Means to cook or boil water, Knifes, axes, hatchets and saws, seeds and anti biotics for future needs, gas masks and protective gear for hazardous environments.
in So Missouri during an ice storm they buy milk, bread water , chips and fast foods- nothing food prep- sad
That's because everyone in so mo has been prepping for years.
If you store rice, be sure to also store salt. Rice without salt tastes absolutely horrible.
Splurge and get a good can opener, made in USA quality.
One with a big handle for older folks.
There is rechargeable lighters. Pair that with a solar charger and youll always have a lighter. Keep some regular lighters on hand also ...
I scooped up strip type grow lights for growing marijuana, I mean tomatoes, they were on sale, and called my name! I also bought a Sun Joe, tiller/cultivator, very sturdy. And, my rescued bunnies work hard 24/7 making ''blue berries' so that I can make tea for my DIY hydroponic set-up.
N-95 are also important for fall out from a volcanic eruption. Ash is toxic. Don’t run combustion engines either without filtering intakes.

I believe with our wind, and snow power outages are likely to be our biggest problem in Billings, MT Any advice would be appreciated.
i think your the first prepper ive seen on here that at least mentioned fishing. guys not talking about that has always confused me lol
one thing you could've mentioned is waterless hygiene items like body wash and shampoo.

Cheers.
I have one by Milwaukee that is just a lantern and USB charger. Power tools are very useful.

I never thought about putting a pool noodle around a 5 gal bucket for... biological things that need to happen. Thanks for that!
Gee, just use a toilet seat. For my camper I use a tall 6 or 7 gallon bucket with a 13 gallon trash bag and a real comfortable wooden toilet seat. You don't want to do the poo straight into the bucket as that makes no sense. Pull the bag out and tie it up. I've never used one more than once but I'm sure you could use it for a day and then bury it as SHTF , there isn't going to be trash pickup. And if SHTF it's not going to be a picnic as some of these channels act like it is. It will literally scare the ..it out of most people.

@:10, Interestingly, I’ve already seen a shortage on distilled water in a few places. For people with medical equipment like CPAPs, distilled water is a must because of the dryness. It has been so bad in my area I had to pick some up a few hundred miles away (opportunity came up). In the meantime, I just bought a distiller to do it myself.
If you have a dehumidifier, the byproduct is basically distilled water
@@jameswolff2152 understood. I have dehumidifiers from an unfortunate Central air issue from years ago. I wouldn’t rly on something like that, though, if power becomes a problem. Distillers are also a good way to have a side hustle when ABC stores close down…
