An alternative to the washboard is a 5 gallon bucket with a lid. Cut a hole in the lid, put some soap and water in the bucket and use a clean plunger to agitate your cloths in the bucket. Medically, often overlooked is plain old salt. Thinking of a nurse recommending regular salt foot soaks when I had an ingrowing toenail which caused slight infection. Thinking of a nurse using saline wipes to clean a wound I had. Also thinking of a relative who had a tooth out - recommended was regular salt rinse to help prevent dry socket. Thinking of a family member who is a fisherman, as a profession. He said cuts from hooks, or other general work on the boat, the salt water always helped to heal those quickly too. Someone I know always used salt on mouth ulcers to help heal them. Overall, never under-estimate plain old table salt! Fairly cheap, and quite useful. Also can help with preserving food obviously, but medically it can be forgotten in favour of fancier things sometimes. Also, honey can be healing. A relative of mine healed a nasty cut on her leg using Manuka honey, recommended by the doctor in New Zealand where she was travelling at the time. Things I've had in wound dressings by the nurse include good old povidone-iodine (as you mentioned), Manuka honey dressings, and also silver impregnated dressings. Colloidal Silver has various uses for external application, and has also been ingested in our family to cure infection (doctor's swab confirmed presence of infection, swallowing small measured amounts throughout each day of Colloidal Silver, daily for 4 days cured it - no antibiotics were needed). Was just brainstorming and rambling, so I'll stop there lol. It's great to share ideas, thank you.

She was originally travelling but she has eventually settled there, having met a wonderful guy etc etc. We miss her but sometimes you gotta go half way across the world to find "the one" eh! Anyway, pretty decent doc if you ask me, not trying to push drug type stuff, but rather, recommending natural stuff.

With the odd weather patterns we've experienced in the past couple of years indoor gardening has become just as important as outdoor gardening. So we keep a stockpile of sprouting seeds for growing scallions, celery, greens, lettuce, herbs, beets, radishes, turnips, carrots, and peas which guarantees fresh food throughout the winter. We turned a sunny room into a garden room with small greenhouses, shelves, and a few LED grow lights. Peas don't need pollinators so that has worked out. Blowing a fan at them or jiggling the flowers keeps pods coming on. Next, I'm going to try growing cherry tomatoes indoors.

Get Celox for preps, not QuickClot. The latter must be 100% completely removed from the wound by medical professionals or else it will stay in your body forever & can cause very serious problems, whereas celox is metabolized by the body over time & does not run the same risks. Never know how available a hospital will be if you have to use these things in shtf.
Edit 1: this is mostly a problem with the granular version of QuickClot as the particles are free to spread in the blood stream, however the sponge/gauze versions still make me nervous. Better safe than sorry so as a general rule I avoid all forms of QuickClot and run Celox instead. It's around the same price & boasts the same/better certifications and performance.
Edit 2: For anyone wondering what the difference is, Celox is made using Chitosan, a compound found in shellfish, whereas QuickClot is made of clay nano-particles. While this may make people with shellfish allergies concerned, there have been no reported cases of anyone experiencing a shellfish-related allergic reaction to celox or other hemostatic agents based on Chitosan. There's only been one scientific study on that issue I found (which had 100% shellfish allergic participants and zero reactions), however Celox has been in use since 2006 with zero known or suspected allergic reactions at all. So you have no need to worry :)

As a medical provider/TacMed instructor, what i stock for medical disinfectant for the body. BZK wipes work well and don't cause serious tissue damage, Iodine if people don't have shellfish allergies. Hydrogen peroxide has a VERY short shelf life. 6-12 months at most before efficacy drops. It does have a place, just be aware of shelf life. For OTC meds, be very aware that Ammodium AD diarrhea meds will stop your from passing certain pathogens which can cause more serious infections to stay in the body. Pepto can sooth but keep things moving short term if possible but have Oral rehydration solution packages on hand. I personally use DripDrop ORS in all my medical kits, bags and IFAKs. Between my GF and I we probably have 200 packages for training work, advanced medical care kits at home, med kits for vehicles and in our IFAKs. This stuff has saved me, GF and teammates in hot weather conditions when sweating is bad. 1 gallon of water with less than a cup of urine output. ORS is as effective as an IV with less risks as long as the person is awake.
For trauma QuikClot is nice to have but personally I would rather see people grab a bunch of Z - fold gauze and some QuikClot 4x4" pads for serious venous bleeding. Z-fold for junctions. You can buy 10+ Z-fold for the price of 1 QuikClot gauze. I would personally put the money you save on QuikClot towards chest seals, TQ, Airway management and mylar blankets for your medical supplies. Layer your medical supplies home, vehicle, EDC on body and tactical gear. Have everyone trained in Stop the bleed at a minimum

Along with the band aides pick up a few boxes of both the small and large “butterfly” bandages. They are strips that you can use to pull together the edges of small gashes to help keep them clean and heal without sutures if medical help is unavailable. Wash then disinfect the wound as best you can before applying the butterfly band aides. Deep wounds may need daily packing with saline soaked kerlix gauze (doesn’t leave behind lint in the wound) as these type of wounds must gradually heal from the inside out. If you close up a deep wound too early it will very likely get infected which is not what you want when no medical help is available. If the time comes that we are each going it alone we will need a lot more bandage and wound care supplies than we think. Pick up some ointment for small burns. Now is the time to take a one day CPR class. Do you know what to do if your baby stops breathing or if an adult’s heart stops beating? Hopefully none of us will experience any of these problems, but Hope is not a plan for preppers. Sorry to bring up these unpleasant scenarios but unfortunately they do happen. Stay strong, stay safe, stay prepared, and God bless us all.

This is sensible. I really don't like to hear or read about families spending all kinds of money on boxes of antibiotics, as preparation for future infections. Every type of oral antibiotic has a shelf life. Use of some oral antibiotics after two years of storage, even in the best conditions, can be dangerous. And no one receives these online oral antibiotics in the weeks of manufacture. They can be a year old as they are sent out, and may not even be real.
I very much agree with your choices, for management of infections. Crushed garlic made into a paste can be used against skin infections, such as staph. Garlic taken like food chases out viruses.

My kid has strep now and he's allergic to amoxicillin so we had to get a different antibiotic and every nearby pharmacy was out. I had to call the doc and get a prescription for another antibiotic which wasn't her 1st choice for a 6 year old. It was such an odd feeling having to scramble for medication to treat a common infection. Thankfully we were able to fill the prescription for the 2nd medication but even the doctor was surprised that everyone was out of her 1st choice.

I am an apartment dweller on the Westcoast and I'm seeing shortages of medication in the supermarkets and drugstores as we speak. The things I have stored right now are water (essential to life), canned and some freeze dried food, medications and basic first aid, coffee & tea, canned & powdered milk. I can't store fuel, but keep at least 1/2 tank in both vehicles, a small camp stove & BBQ. I'm going to make a list of things I need after watching this video and things I would like to add. We had to survive the "Great SW Blackout of 2011", but that only lasted 3 days. Right now, 2 of us can survive 2 weeks or longer. Thank you for all of the common sense advice. I recommend people buy a good meal saver and make their own MREs. For as much as it would cost for a 2 weeks supply bucket from those predatory companies, you could buy a meal saver and a month's worth of food and easily build a 2 month supply every month. Aquarium antibiotics can still be purchased through June. There doesn't appear to be a shortage of amoxicillin in that category. 100 pills of 500mg amox is $25. For 100 of ciprofloxacin, metronidazole, cephlahaxin and doxycycline, prices range from $40 to $65. 30 of Augmentin is $50 and 30 of fluconozole is $35. Ivermectin 250ml injectable solution is $65 and can be taken orally. Vet supply companies and aquarium maintenance companies are my sources. These products are mostly made by Kraft and are pharmaceutical grade. If you have a big family, this is far more cost effective.

Long turn preps should be inspected from time to time. We have been having problems with Costco Duracell batteries not making it to half the posted life expectancy before leaking in the original packs. Even stored in cool dry location didn't help. We have found 12 packs have gone bad after inspection. Duracell has been coming good for them with coupons through a lengthy process. I have then been replacing them with slow discharge rechargeable. Making sure there is plenty of chargers in the faraday cage and a portable solar system to charge them. New purchases I am going with EBL lithium rechargeable slow discharge all sizes. Been using these for a few years and have been proving to be excellent batteries. Check your preps of batteries often for leakage. Check your preps of zip top can goods as well. Stacking more than two high or leaving shrink rap plastic on multipacks have been an issue as well. Rotate by B/B dates as often as you can. I've been using cardboard spacers for each level. Zip tops for longer storage is not preference.

A recession is a period of economic downturn, typically characterized by high unemployment, low consumer spending, and reduced business activity. During a recession, it is common for people to lose their jobs and for businesses to struggle. As a result, it is important to be prepared in case you need to rely on your stockpiled items for an extended period of time.
When stockpiling items for a recession, it is important to focus on non-perishable essentials, such as food, water, medicine, and personal hygiene products. You should also consider stockpiling other items that could be useful during a recession, such as cleaning supplies, tools, and first aid supplies.
It is difficult to say exactly how much of each item you should stockpile, as it will depend on your specific needs and circumstances. However, a good rule of thumb is to aim for at least a three-month supply of essential items.
Your stockpiled items should be stored in a cool, dry place that is easily accessible in case of an emergency. You should also regularly rotate your stockpiled items to ensure that they do not expire or become damaged.
In addition to the items you stockpile, there are other considerations to keep in mind, such as having a plan in place for using your stockpiled items, staying informed about potential emergencies and economic conditions, and ensuring that your stockpile is adequately insured.
By following these guidelines, you can build a strong foundation of supplies to help you weather any economic storm.

To be honest.. i did prep from de 2019 till now present.... the problem is that i did discarded 3 bag full of med or drug store as they called...... Is not so much of good idea to store so so much. I did found one change that said is preferred to stock on January and that way you know is going to be good for a 2,3 yrs... And by December donate unused stuff to shelter and food as well

Thank you Jr, very appreciated this video to remind us to check our Preps are up to date.
The only issue i have living in the UK is obtaining Antibiotics, they have to be obtained through a Gp and cannot get them over the counter.
Can anyone recommend any natural antibiotics that can be used in replacement?
Thank you in advance, stay vigilant, we're in very fragile times.
BTW.... Happy New Year Jr and viewers, stay strong i believe 2023 will be year of the Prepper!

Don't forget your otc meds like Icy Hot, your vitamins, allergy meds, thermometers, eye drops etc. Dont forget pets..dog & cat food doesn't last a long time beyond bb date but they need flea meds and stuff too. Maybe a spare pair of eyeglasses or readers? A new belt or suspenders? Razors? Birth control? Dry shampoo?

I keep aquatabs or oasis water purification tablets, they are not very plesent to use, but they are not expensive and if you follow the shelf life and use them acording to instructions, you can drink river or lake water for up to 6 months

In Soviet Russia, a woman walked into a shop. She looked with disgust at the empty shelves and said to the shopkeeper,
“It is disgraceful that there is not a single piece of meat on any of your shelves”.
    The shopkeeper replied,
“You are mistaken Madame! In this store, we have no bread. The store that has no meat is across the street!”

Last year when me an my sister in law we stock pile 12 containers of baby formula an diapers we figure out how much diapers we needed it was nice not having to worry about formula then when we were done we pass on the formula that was open to another cousin that was having a baby at the time they were very grateful.. my sister in law told us that formula was going up in price an was having hard time finding it last year in 2022. I even bought few cloth diapers for my pantry to have on hand I told my self that if we can't afford it then we use cloth diapers.

Three minutes without air, three hours without shelter, 3 days without water (figure out how to gather and purify), 3 weeks without food. After that I think first aid/hygiene, and defense. Not just limited to guns. Perimeter lights, strong locks, pepper gel even a paintball gun or pellet guns if regular guns are not your thing. After that focus on backup power. With food store what you eat and eat what you store.
