  • Hi! Welcome to Blood Talks!
    The H antigen is the precursor for A and B antigen. It serve as a base sugar for A and B enzymes to add on a sugar to the H antigen and convert it to either A or B antigen. This make the H antigen important in ABO blood group. In this video we will take a closer look at the molecular genetic of the H antigen. This include when the H gene is missing which lead to Bombay phenotype.

    Welcome to Blood Talks Fam. Blood Talks offers you a peek into how clinical laboratory scientists (CLS) or medical laboratory technologists (MLT) work in a hospital. CLS/MLT hold an important role in the healthcare system, but unfortunately, many people do not know that they even exist, simply because most of CLS/MLT work is done behind the scenes. In this channel, you can find explanations from a clinical laboratory point of view. I hope you enjoy and learn something you did not know before.

    I mean Ulex european lectin = do as anti-H antibody , is that right?

    • @BloodTalks
      @BloodTalks  2 роки тому +1

      The lectin binds to H antigen in RBC.
      Antigen is on the surface of the cell.
      Antibody is in the patient’s plasma.

    Hello I have an O+ blood type but my dad has an AB blood type could i be having a Bombay blood group or may dad couple have a chimera

      Thank you for the question. It is possible, but unlikely because Bombay blood type is quite rare. Try retesting your and your father's blood type. Also, you can try crossmatching your plasma with random type O RBC. A Bombay person would not be compatible with O RBC from a non-Bombay person.
      Another possibility is the blood type you got at birth was your mother's blood type. It is maybe uncommon but could happen. The person who collected your cord blood contaminated the sample with your mother's blood, the lab type your mother's blood instead of your own.
