I'm commenting in 2022, so 10 years after you posted this video. This machine was on the market from 1983 until 1989, so even in 2012 it was very impressive that it was still working! Would not surprise me if it was still going to this day 🙂
Fascinating how you were able to work your way from the known to the unknown and get that beast to work. Looks like your friend will get a great quality functional machine for little money thanks to your perseverance and love of working on this kind of stuff.
I know it's years later, but yeah the reason why it stops every so often is when it reverses. Have had one we bought new in 2013, still going strong but pauses to reverse. You'd think it would cause more stress on the machine but...great video as always.
Finally, a nicely engineered product. I had a feeling it would be a simple fix. Nice job. A friend of mine always kids me about having a light inside my dryer. He says only rich people have a light inside their dryer. :)
Well worth the 'autopsy'. The reverse is an anti tangle feature. This dryer will have been mega dollars when new, and you have probably given it a few more years life. Good on yer :)
Smashing job, i didnt think it would take you long to repair it :-) With a new drum seal it looks like a dam good machine. Bloated capacitor death, lol, i replaced one in my mates hotpoint washing machine, it was on the controller board and was part of the power supply to the chips. The front lights and led display were going mad, looked like the machine had a nervious breakdown :-) Bunged in a 16v 680uf 105c panasonic cap from r.s semiconductors and all was well :-) Well worth it:-)
Best dryer you can buy. It may be complex, but it will keep working for 20 years or more. When something goes wrong it is usually the back bearing of the drum - this is easily changed.
That reverse feature is kind of a neat feature. Keeps whatever your drying from wadding up from being tumbled in one direction. Like a blanket or something. It'll roll and wad in one direction, stop and unroll in the other direction. Never seen one with a reduction drive, Most dryers here in the states are driven by a 4 pole motor. That'll make a nice dryer for whomever your giving it to.. Nice job.
the door lamp is a 15W pigmy/sine bulb with an E14 cap but a microwave lamp has an E17 cap.you can get the bulbs for the door dert cheep (the shop om the way to school sell em )
the band goes to a moisture sensor. in the UK if the dryer is in a garage or shed the moisture sensor or "sensor dry" as its called is totally useless. they only work if the dryer is in the house or a heated room. hope this helps you out dude.
that's a really interesting dryer! can you just plug it into any outlet? here in the US we have to have a special circuit for dryers with electric heaters. I have a dryer with a gas burner so it runs off 120V
those bands on the drum are for the moisture mesuring . the machine wil terminate the program when it senses that the cloths are dry. these are the best machines money can buy...its from the early 80's.. my machine was 28 years old when the timer unit died.If i had replaced that it stil has ran.
I think those bars are the moisture sensor, they work by passing a small electric current through the clothes and as they dry they let less and less current through the fabric and once they reach the set amount of resistance I guess then it will turn the machine off.
That's neat, the motor cap has the same logo as some Siemens electrolytics I've found in some old european radios, it's a stylized version of the mythical beast called a "Hydra". I had no idea that they still used that emblem.
Miele actually made cars back in the early 1910's, They are actually to this day still the best brand for whitegoods!, I'd try and fix this one at least
Hi i have similar Miele dryer. I had to have the motor rebuilt but now that I am installing it I am having trouble with motor placement so I can get the belt on. Question is the motor can rotate in the rubber seal in multiple positions. Should you be able to just slip drum belt onto the small wheel or does it need to be stretched on for tension?
Hey, Wondering if u can help. I'm getting a tingle from my Miele Honeycomb care T 8422 C dryer. Just wonder how I can change the power cord. It had a nick in it and the wires in the cord are feeling stiff. Hoping to be able to find a replacement at Bunnings. Please do a video?
Hi, I have an even older (1983) T355, and its timer has failed. Miele don't have the part but if I can get in there maybe I can fix it. Your video unfortunately does not show how the top is removed. On mine one corner is loose but the rest are solidly ancchored and I can't see any fixings. So is it just brute force or is there a secret? Thanks paul
Miele are made in germany like Bosch and simens and if you ever buy a miele washer it will last you twenty years or more and miele washers a quieter than LG direct drive washers :-)
When fitting the 12 mF run capacitor, the cap terminals are marked "1" and "2". A brown (live) and a black (negative) wire comes out of the motor. Not noting which wire goes to which terminal, I need this information. Which wire goes to which terminal?
Hi ed what do you think of the direct drive washing mashines thinking of getting one I've been tould to avoid them as there not very good what do you then ed should I buy one you seem to no more .
the motor cap just blew on our dryer. unfortunately, unlike this dryer, it's a piece of shite, and I have to take a majority of it apart to get at it. my mom went to start it yesterday and nothing happened. all I could smell out the vent was blown capacitor.
hi please can you tell me how old this machine is and do you still own her? also do you know if a washing machine programmer can crash ? like a computer
***** Actually, Mieles with a brown front were wholesaler-models, unsure how you call it in English though, but we Dutchies called them "grossiersmodellen" :p
Amazing, something German made that isn't an A-hole to service, that probably explains why Miele has been in business for 100 years then and most of the German electronics companies are gone.
12:52 At this point there would normally be a word from the sponsors, while the video is edited, so as to remove the missing forgotten replaced belt, that has just been remembered. Without letting everyone know about the ''Bloody Idiot" ! . Funny !

Nice to see the dryer working again, I am glad you fixed it! Nice design too.

Nice save, that’s one of the best brands available.
@DeepSpaceAlien This machine is 30 YEARS old and yet very sophisticated and still running :) Like most MIELE machines :D
Smashing job, i didnt think it would take you long to repair it :-)

It is a great dryer, still running strong last I herd from my lady friend, i should go clean it some time too.
Pro trick: watch series on flixzone. Been using them for watching all kinds of movies lately.
@Jayce Reid yea, I have been watching on Flixzone for years myself :)
Thank you for this description. Made in easy to open and maintain this dryer

Miele are the BEST home appliances money can buy :D High quality and almost no errors !! Just pitty the price :D

auto sensor dry? some kind of back to the future moment? you clothes are now dry?

The reversing of the drum is to minimize wrinkles in the fabric being dried.
This dryer is very very good
Nice video. I ain't never seen one before. Very informative.
Miele actually made cars back in the early 1910's, They are actually to this day still the best brand for whitegoods!, I'd try and fix this one at least
@amfan12 Aussie stuff is usually made for a 10A wall plug, so about 2.5Kw tops

does it constantly stop and reverse during the cycle? could it be to prevent uneven wear of the brushes on the drum? just a thought

lol its not cutting out, its changing direction :) my dryer does that!
What's the KW rating of that unit? Most here are around 4-5KW.
double reduction to keep the torque going to the drum high
reduction makes more torque :-) ???
Very much like a commercial dryer.
the motor cap just blew on our dryer. unfortunately, unlike this dryer, it's a piece of shite, and I have to take a majority of it apart to get at it. my mom went to start it yesterday and nothing happened. all I could smell out the vent was blown capacitor.
Miele are good to service if you have a problem
Dear Ryan,
How does one change or check the temperature (NTC) sensor in a Miele Washer-dryer, please? Is it hard to do ?
hi please can you tell me how old this machine is and do you still own her?
also do you know if a washing machine programmer can crash ?
like a computer

this is from the 90's or from the v80's and it its now 2013so good value
What's the best way to transport one of these? I've just bought a used one.
I wouldn't carry it on my back. Use a car. ;-)
damn, that is a massive capacitor.
if you get bad hayfever what happens when you go to brads? his cat goes everywhere ahah
Its a shame this kind of intelligent engineering isn't incorporated in to all things of modern days..
Why don't you get yourself a condensing clothes dryer, the type that uses water to dry clothes and to dispose of clothing fluff ?
the drum stopping after 15 secs and restarting is probably the drum changing direction
When it stops for anti crincle?
Awesome.

@flamesecureUK oops, ignore me. just finished watching the video.
