You can boil the drumsticks in a big pot of water like you would a whole chicken. Remove the meat and treat it just like you would any shredded chicken. I have used it for chicken tacos, or in a number of different casseroles. You could also make soup with the chicken and stock you created by boiling it. Save the skin and the bones in a bag in the freezer and when you have a bunch place in a large pot with water on low and simmer for 18 to 24 hours to make chicken broth, if you have any onion scraps, celery scraps and carrot scraps it will add flavor, but you don't have to have those to make broth. The broth can be frozen in containers or bags and used to flavor rice or soups.
Great help! Thank you
This is great advice! Thanks for sharing!
😅
@@mamabairds Hey pretty Carolina! Hope you are having a great day!
I'm glad you're back getting food pantry hauls
Welcome to Michigan! I know when I have taco kits or tortillas, but maybe not any meat, I've used canned refried beans and blended it with cooked rice to fill the shells. If you have cheese, lettuce, tomato, etc... those are a bonus!
Great suggestions! THank you
I'm so glad you got the info on where the mobile pantries are. ❤
Me too!!
My family likes when I take any cut of chicken and bake it with rice, cream of mushroom or chicken soup and I add chicken bouillon to help flavor the rice a little better, I sprinkle the top with paprika..easy and tasty..Sometimes I make the chicken in the slow cooker and the rice on the side. They also like my salsa chicken in the slow cooker..any cut of chicken a jar of salsa, corn, black beans and a taco seasoning packet. I serve this with rice also😊
Great haul!
Rice-A-Roni now has a pasta which is like Mrs. grass is pasta it’s so good.
We love using Old Bay seasoning on drumsticks and baking/roasting at 450 in the oven for 50 minutes. The skin is so crispy and tasty! We usually pair with baked potatoes.
Another good one is basically a ranch seasoning mix with mayo and sour cream smothered over the chicken and baked at 375 for 40 minutes or so. Yum!
Sounds REALLY good! Thank you for sharing!
I may have to try that.
Those drumsticks I take them and boil in water and salt and pepper, then when done I pull the meat off and use to make chicken n dumplings homemade with the water they cooked in and or chicken n rice with the water which turns to broth that they cooked in or you could use the meat for pot pie with a can of mixed vegetables and make your crust with flour or biscuit mix etc lots of ideas on those or fry them in flour and seasonings and or bbq, put wing sauce on them lots of ideas! Great video! ❤
Great thoughts!
Hey Jen!!
@@mamabairds hey beautiful!! 👋

the chicken will go further for a larger family if you boil it and pick the bones... you can then have bone broth and use the chicken in some 1 pot meals and casseroles
Chicken and stuffing casserole
I'm glad that you were able to find out about the mobile food pantry. What i was wondering if all the food pantry s want to know, why couldn't you just get food stamps?
I know when Hurricane Katrina came through,we had to go to a food pantry, and I'm going to tell you,i really thought they were wanting to know too much. And what was the worst was the crap that they gave us. I see alot of channels going to the pantry's and getting good stuff. Unfortunately,it wasn't that good here.
She had done a video in the past on why they don't apply for food stamps or other government assistance.
I did do a couple of videos! One 3 years ago, and this is the most recent. Hope it helps

We like to use shake and bake with our drum sticks then put them 9x11 pan 375 40 min i will add cut up potatoes and carrots as well
I like the simplicity of that!
You can make chicken tacos! God bless your family. ❤️😃
Great thought!

Im so grateful for channels like these that bring to light how people that are having food insecurities can access food. The stigma needs to be removed and channels like yours are helping to do that. ❤ many blessing to you and yours
Thank you for your words!
I got lucky where one of the churches gave me a full list of all the current food pantries in my area, and the churches in my area, and I had to weed through the ones that weren’t good to the ones that were beneficial for me and it took weeks and weeks. I finally got it down to where I go to for a month and then I go to one every Saturday morning.
But you may want to ask any secretaries or the churches that you call if they haven’t list of other pantries in the area and that you’re new.
The drumsticks are great. Can ve used in many ways. Great video.
12 lbs in all! Woohoo!
thanks for sharing !
Thank you for watching!
Good morning My beautiful friend! Challice I am so glad you were able to find something to supplement with! You can make hummus out of the garbanzo beans. Keep the juice from the garbanzo beans you can use it as a egg substitute! You can make chicken noodle soup, chicken and rice soup, just google recipes for chicken drumsticks and you will find all sorts of recipes!

Thank you! Will do!
ALSO OH MY GOSH THAT SOUNDS SO COLD! My California brain is broken.
It only got "better" aka colder, from there!!!!!! Joy.
I am glad you found a helpful source in your new home. As far as chicken goes, I bake chicken legs all different ways. Lemon pepper, adobo, southwest style, garlic and herb, and list goes on. Season it pretty good, bake in oven at 400 around for 45 mins. IYou can bake it at whatever temp you prefer, I bake it at 400 so I can make cornbread at the same time. Boil a bag of those legs and shred. Mix into a pot of dumplings.
Chicken drumsticks, cream of chicken soup, French onion soup mix and rice. Bake in the oven.
Sounds great!
You can cook the chicken in the oven and take the meat off the bone and use the meat for sandwiches, pasta, pizza topping, chicken salad, the options are endless.
Love all the options and ideas!
Oven fried chicken is a great meal. Use Bisquick or pancake batter, dry, and season it up with season salt, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika. Coat your chicken pieces, w/skin or w/o, and bake in sprayed metal pan, not glass, at 425 for 35 mins. Turn chicken and bake another 10-15 mins. Chicken will be crispy and tender. I throw in potatoes and/or squash in the oven to round out dinner. Everything is done at the same time. I’ve been making this oven fried chicken for over 40 years. Everyone loves it and asks for the recipe. Debi in Vicksburg, MS. 🥰🥰
Thank you for that!
Back again. Glad that you got help
Thank you!
Michigan also has fresh produce boxes they give from the food bank. Maybe look for that in your area. They have different locations and dates you can get them.
I boil the chicken legs with s & p, bone them, strain the broth, make either dumplings or a chicken stew with carrots, onions, and celery and serve over biscuits or mashed potatoes. I also like a big pot of homemade noodles served over mashed potatoes. You can make the meat go a long way doing this. All comfort foods from my childhood.
Great idea! Thank you!
I use chickpeas for curry, stirfry, or in soups! Great protein!
Indeed! So versatile!
RINSE THE BEANS RUB THEM TO REMOVE THETHE SKIN YOU CAN MAKE HUMUS OR USE THEM TO MAKE A CURRY
I like to make cinnamon sugar and spice mix! Coat with an egg white and then your sugar spice mix and bake at 250F for 40 mins, mixing every 10 mins or so! So good! Thanks for sharing your haul with us!
By any chance did you make a video, Carolina?! I'm a visual learner.
Boil chicken legs and debone. Using meat to make white chili, noodle soup
Thank you!
Hooray! I was wondering if you had found one in Michigan!
With much help! Sounds like a lot of people need it here. :(
Always remember to cook nuts from food banks there raw. Poor onto cookie sheet bake at 200' for 30 minute's. Cool then place into a jar . I did all I thought found a bag in my pantry and it was horrible yuck. So if you plan to store you must cook them. I've have six year nuts in half gallon jars with a moisture pks and there so fresh and yum.
Have you ever made a good batch of cinnamon almonds? that is my kids favorite but I have yet to make a good batch.
I am making videos of how to cook with some of the interesting stuff you get sometimes. 😊
WONDERFUL!
h boil your chicken.can put onion and celery in it. Then pick the meat. use in the taco kits. Also can take some rice, say cup and a half in bottom of a greased baking pan can of like cream of mushroom soup or celery soup or chix soup . Any of the cream soups. Add a a can and a half or water, chopped celery and onion. Mix then add it a little bouillon, or use the water from the cooked chicken pieces. Add some of the picked chicken. To add more bulk. Chopped a couple carrots and possible a little chopped broccoli. pinch of sale and pepper. I add couple pats of butter and If you have it cheese. I use american broke up. bake 350 about 30 to 40 min. Just till bubble and cheese melt. So good on a cold winter night or anytime. Will feed a bunch. I've made chix soup and chicken salad with the pre cooked chicken.
Sounds delicious! Thank you!
You could precook the chicken , shread the chicken off the bones tnen add vegetables and rice to the broth and add chicken back in and you have chicken rice soup, you could add a few spices
